Slow degradation was observed in sodium/beta-alumina electrolytes subjected to long term in cycling Na/S cells. The degradation propagated as a layer from the sodium side. It involves the internal deposition of sodium metal during current passage. This Mode II degradation was distinct from chemical colouration and from the Mode I failure (Poiseuille pressure due to cathodic deposition driving isolated cracks). Degradation was also observed on the sulfur side of the electrolyte and was associated with the graphite felt “imprinting effect.” It is thought that the Mode II degradation resulted from electron conduction into the solid electrolyte from the beta-alumina/sodium metal interface during the charging cycle.  相似文献

Air- and vacuum-fractured samples of calcium-doped beta-alumina have been examined using Auger electron spectroscopy. The calcium concentrations at grain boundaries were found to be enhanced over the bulk value by about a factor of 10. Excess sodium was observed on the fracture surface of air fractured electrolytes, and was absent for samples fractured in ultra-high vacuum. Temperature-dependent features in the secondary electron spectrum and the effects of surface charging and radiation damage by the incident electron beam were also observed.  相似文献

Flexural creep behavior is reported for an in situ -toughened SiC between 1100° and 1500°C in four-point bending. The flexural creep rate of this SiC, sintered with aluminum, boron, and carbon (ABC-SiC), exhibits linear stress dependence, low apparent activation energy, and low incidence of cavitation and dislocation production. Most grain boundaries in this ceramic contain 1–5 nm intergranular films. The creep rate is consistent with a grain-boundary transport mechanism involving diffusion along the grain-boundary film-SiC interfaces. The microstructure and grain boundaries have been examined using transmission electron microscopy to assess possible changes during creep, particularly in relation to the applied stress direction.  相似文献

Effect of Green Density on Densification and Creep During Sintering   总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4  
The effect of green density on both the densification rate and the creep rate was measured simultaneously during sintering by loading dilatometry. The experiments were performed on zinc oxide powder compacts with five different green densities covering a range of 0.39 to 0.73 of theoretical. The samples were heated at a constant rate of 4°C/min up to 1100°C in air. The densification rate at any temperature increases significantly with decreasing green density. The data for the densification rate and creep rate as a function of density show two quite distinct regimes of behavior; the rates were strongly dependent on density below 0.80, while above this value they were weakly dependent on density. The ratio of the densification rate to the creep rate was almost independent of temperature but increased almost linearly with increasing green density. The representation of the data in terms of models for sintering and creep is discussed.  相似文献

Nitroxoline, a well-known antimicrobial agent, has been identified in several independent studies, and on different molecular targets, as a promising candidate to be repurposed for cancer treatment. One specific target of interest concerns cathepsin B, a lysosomal peptidase involved in the degradation of the extracellular matrix (ECM), leading to tumor invasion, metastasis and angiogenesis. However, dedicated optimization of the nitroxoline core is needed to actually deliver a nitroxoline-based antitumor drug candidate. Within that context, 34 novel nitroxoline analogs were synthesized and evaluated for their relative cathepsin B inhibitory activity, their antiproliferative properties and their antimicrobial activity. More than twenty analogs were shown to exert a similar or even slightly higher cathepsin B inhibitory activity compared to nitroxoline. The implemented modifications of the nitroxoline scaffold and the resulting SAR information can form an eligible basis for further optimization toward more potent cathepsin B inhibitors in the quest for a clinical nitroxoline-based antitumor agent.  相似文献

Abstract: Bacteria in milk have the ability to adhere and aggregate on stainless steel surfaces, resulting in biofilm formation in milk storage tanks and milk process lines. Growth of biofilms in milk processing environments leads to increased opportunity for microbial contamination of the processed dairy products. These biofilms may contain spoilage and pathogenic microorganisms. Bacteria within biofilms are protected from sanitizers due to multispecies cooperation and the presence of extracellular polymeric substances, by which their survival and subsequent contamination of processed milk products is promoted. This paper reviews the most critical factors in biofilm formation, with special attention to pseudomonads, the predominant spoilage bacteria originating from raw milk. Biofilm interactions between pseudomonads and milk pathogens are also addressed, as emerging risks and future research perspectives, specifically related to the milk processing environment.  相似文献

The evolution of computer-aided design tools has extended the capabilities of a designer by pushing the optimality of complex circuits beyond the ad hoc manual implementation. This work presents a framework to co-optimize the circuit and the layout parameters of fully integrated inductive DC–DC converters. The framework comprises expensive optimization that is speeded up by active learning sample selection and evolutionary techniques to acquire an optimal converter. A tapered inductor topology is used to increase the quality of the on-chip inductor and to improve the efficiency of the overall monolithic DC–DC converter. The optimization framework is validated by co-optimizing the design parameters and the tapered inductor layout for a fully-integrated DC–DC boost converter in a 0.13 μm CMOS technology. The power loss in the circuit is reduced with 27 % resulting in a 7 % efficiency improvement, compared to a fully-integrated DC–DC boost converter with a regular inductor topology.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is a serious complication of critical illness, conferring increased morbidity and mortality. Many interventions have been studied to reduce the risk of VAP. We systematically reviewed the influence of airway management on VAP in critically ill patients. DATA SOURCES: Studies were identified through searching MEDLINE and EMBASE from 1980 through July 1997 and by searching SCISEARCH, the Cochrane Library, bibliographies of primary and review articles, personal files, and contact with authors of the randomized trials. STUDY SELECTION: We selected randomized trials evaluating ventilator circuit and secretion management strategies on the rate of VAP. DATA EXTRACTION: Two investigators independently abstracted key data on design features, the population, intervention, and outcome of the studies. DATA SYNTHESIS: The frequency of ventilator circuit changes and the type of endotracheal suction system do not appear to influence VAP rates (3 trials, none with significant difference; range of relative risks [RRs], 0.84-0.91). However, lower VAP rates may be associated with avoidance of heated humidifiers and use of heat and moisture exchangers (5 trials, only 1 showing a significant difference; range of RRs, 0.34-0.86), use of oral vs nasal intubation (1 trial; RR, 0.52; 95% confidence interval, 0.24-1.13), subglottic secretion drainage vs standard endotracheal tubes (2 trials, 1 showing a significant difference; range of RRs, 0.46-0.57), and kinetic vs conventional beds (5 trials, only 1 showing a significant difference; range of RRs, 0.35-0.78). CONCLUSIONS: Some ventilator circuit and secretion management strategies may influence VAP rates in critically ill patients. Whether these strategies are adopted in practice depends on several factors such as the magnitude and precision of estimates of benefit and harm, as well as access, availability, and costs.  相似文献
