The low incidence of group B streptococcal (GBS) invasive neonatal disease in Mexico has been attributed to the low prevalence of serotype III strains, a major serotype in developed countries. In addition, nontypeable strains account for 12% of the isolates in Mexico and < 1% of the isolates in the United States. In this study, 57 GBS isolates (28 nontypeable by the Lancefield procedure) from carrier and infected neonates and women from Mexico were also examined for the presence of type-specific antigen by an enzymatic procedure using N-acetylmuramidase digestion of the cell wall to release soluble type-specific antigen. Of the 28 nontypeable strains from Mexico, 23 were typeable by the enzyme extraction procedure, with serotype III being the predominant serotype in invasive disease. These results suggest that nontypeable isolates of GBS should be further examined by the enzymatic extraction procedure to determine the presence of type-specific antigen. Furthermore, these limited results suggest that serotype III is likely a major serotype in invasive disease also in Mexico.  相似文献

When planning a new wind farm, optimising the turbine layout to maximise power output is crucial. Traditional approaches based on analytical wake models often fail in complex terrain. In such areas, wake-to-wake interactions and terrain-induced effects need to be taken into account via high-fidelity optimisation. Building on our prior research on how best to maximise offshore wind farm power production by both micro-siting (layout optimisation) and wake steering (yaw angle optimisation), this study focuses on the optimisation of two onshore wind turbines located around a 2D hill. The proposed approach is based on high-fidelity simulations (LES) to account for the complexity of the flow and on Bayesian optimisation (BO) to systematically and efficiently find the optimal configuration for the two turbines given a set of parameters. The LES are performed with the high-order finite-difference wind farm simulator WInc3D, which has been modified for this study to deal with complex terrains and turbines with yaw and tilt. Following the validation of the immersed boundary method (IBM) and wall modelling used to model the complex terrain and of a modified actuator disc model (ADM) to account for tilted turbines, two BO campaigns are presented in this study, with different sets of parameters to optimise. The main flow features and some statistics for each optimum case are discussed using the flow fields with and without the optimised configuration of the upstream turbine to analyse its impact on the downstream turbine and on the overall power of the system. For the first optimisation, the design variables include the wind turbines' streamwise locations and their hub heights (4 parameters). This optimisation study benefits from an elevated upstream turbine hub, leading to a significant power increase in the downstream turbine, thanks to an acceleration of the flow in front of the hill. For the second optimisation, the design space is modified based on the data from the first optimisation, by replacing the turbine's hub height with the possibility of changing the tilt angle of the upstream turbine (4 parameters). It is found that considerable power gains can be obtained while maintaining a modest upstream turbine hub height, by introducing a positive tilt angle in the upstream turbine. Overall, it is found that by setting up the turbines in ways that exploit the speed-up of the flow around the hill, both optimised layouts achieve considerable enhancements in power density over a reference configuration.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

In response to the latest “crisis” in the humanities, advocates have marched, rallied, fundraised, and—especially—argued. This essay contends that communication scholars can support the growing “case for the humanities” by analyzing argumentative strategies, and more specifically, by offering ethical argumentative strategies that avoid replicating structures of domination. In particular, we look to Mari Lee Mifsud's theorization of rhetoric as gift, which follows Henry W. Johnstone in conceptualizing argument as something other than winning over an adversary. We place Mifsud's theorization of the gift in conversation with the methods of the digital public humanities (DPH), which acknowledge and offer abundant resources for meaning-making. Through the methods of DPH, we offer a response to the humanities “crisis” that activates the humanities’ already broad constituencies by giving resources for humanistic inquiry rather than seeking to capture adversaries. Our case study is Photogrammar, a DPH project for organizing, searching, and visualizing the New Deal and World War II era photographs funded by the U.S. federal government. The project forefronts visual, nonlinear, and interactive argumentation in order to engage publics in generative humanistic inquiry. By enlisting participants and sharing expertise, Photogrammar shows how humanities advocates can deepen attachments to the humanities and build broad constituencies of collaborators and allies.  相似文献

Recently, several light‐stimulated artificial synaptic devices have been proposed to mimic photonic synaptic plasticity for neuromorphic computing. Here, the photoelectric synaptic plasticity based on 2D lead‐free perovskite ((PEA)2SnI4) is demonstrated. The devices show a photocurrent activation in response to a light stimulus in a neuron‐like way and exhibit several essential synaptic functions such as short‐term plasticity (STP) and long‐term plasticity (LTP) as well as their transmission based on spike frequency control. The strength of synaptic connectivity can be effectively modulated by the duration, irradiance, and wavelength of light spikes. The ternary structure of (PEA)2SnI4 causes it to possess varied photoelectric properties by composition control, which enhances the complexity and freedoms required by neuromorphic computing. The physical mechanisms of the memory effect are attributed to two distinct lifetimes of photogenerated carrier trapping/detrapping processes modulated by controlling the proportion of Sn vacancies. This work demonstrates the great potential of (PEA)2SnI4 as a platform to develop future multifunctional artificial neuromorphic systems.  相似文献

We have studied experimentally jump-to-contact (JC) and jump-out-of-contact (JOC) phenomena in gold electrodes. JC can be observed at first contact when two metals approach each other, while JOC occurs in the last contact before breaking. When the indentation depth between the electrodes is limited to a certain value of conductance, a highly reproducible behaviour in the evolution of the conductance can be obtained for hundreds of cycles of formation and rupture. Molecular dynamics simulations of this process show how the two metallic electrodes are shaped into tips of a well-defined crystallographic structure formed through a mechanical annealing mechanism. We report a detailed analysis of the atomic configurations obtained before contact and rupture of these stable structures and obtained their conductance using first-principles quantum transport calculations. These results help us understand the values of conductance obtained experimentally in the JC and JOC phenomena and improve our understanding of atomic-sized contacts and the evolution of their structural characteristics.  相似文献

Acetyl-coenzyme A carboxylase α (ACACA), the major regulatory enzyme of fatty acid biosynthesis, catalyzes the conversion of acetyl-CoA to malonyl-CoA. We have sequenced 5.5 kb of the goat ACACA cDNA in 18 individuals. The translated cDNA sequence encodes 1,832 AA and shares a high AA identity (99%) with the ovine and bovine ACACA orthologous sequences. One silent single nucleotide polymorphism was identified at exon 45 (C5493T). The genotyping of this polymorphism in 4 goat breeds, Murciano-Granadina, Teramana, Majorera, and Malagueña, showed that it was segregating in all 4 breeds at variable frequencies. In addition, a mixed animal model was used to evaluate the association of C5493T genotypes with milk traits. Results from this study show that the C5493T mutation was suggestively associated with fat yield, lactose content, and somatic cell count.  相似文献
