Luminescence properties of the Langmuir-Blodgett film of terbium(III) stearoylanthranilate

Terbium(III) stearoylanthranilate has been prepared as a high property Z-type Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) film on various substrates by a vertical transfer process. The UV-visible absorption spectra and the low angle X-ray diffraction peaks have been collected in order to investigate the molecular arrangement and aggregation in the LB films. The average molecular orientation in multilayer stacking was determined by Attenuated Total Reflection Spectroscopy. The influence of the chemical environment of terbium within the LB films on the luminescence properties has been discussed.     

Alteration of the Hygroscopic Properties in Systematic (Homologous) Series of Fibre-Forming Polymers

It was shown that the hygroscopicity and characteristic energy of sorption of water vapor by fibre-forming polymers with a systematically varied molecular composition change nonlinearly with an increase in the concentration of functional groups. Equations are proposed for calculating the sorption isotherms as a function of the molecular structure (concentration of functional groups) and supermolecular structure (degree of crystallinity) of the polymer. Cold crucible melting and characterization of titanate-zirconate pyrochlore as a potential rare earth/actinide waste form

La-Ce-Gd titanate-zirconate pyrochlore-based ceramics was synthesized at the lab-scale inductive melting unit with a 56?mm inner diameter cold crucible. Batch feeding rate and melting ratio were 3?kg/h and 3?kW?h/kg respectively. The ceramics is composed of 85–90?vol% zoned grains of the pyrochlore structure phase, the sample has excellent chemical durability in hot water and may be considered as a promising matrix for actinide – rare earth fraction of high level waste.     

Computational uses of the method of phases in the theory of queues

A probability density {p_k} on the positive integers is of phase type, if it is the probability density of the time till absorption in an (m + l)-state Markov chain with one absorbing state m + 1, and m transient states all of which lead to the absorbing state. If the service times in a discrete time queue have densities of phase type, several transient and stationary probability distributions of interest may be computed by highly efficient algorithms, which are presented in the paper.     

A Novel Approach for Bisphosphonates: Ionic Liquids and Organic Salts from Zoledronic Acid

Novel ionic liquids and organic salts based on mono- or dianionic zoledronate and protonated superbases, choline and n-alkylmethylimidazolium cations, were prepared and characterized by spectroscopic and thermal analyses. Most of the prepared salts display amorphous structures and very high solubility in water and saline solutions, especially the dianionic salts. Among the zoledronate-based ionic compounds, those containing choline [Ch] and methoxyethylmethylimidazolium [C₃OMIM] cations appear to have significant cytotoxicity against human osteosarcoma cells (MG63) and low toxicity toward healthy skin fibroblast cells. Because osteosarcoma is a bone pathology characterized by an increase in bone turnover rate, the results presented herein may be a promising starting point for the development of new ionic pharmaceutical drugs against osteosarcoma.
