A multi‐stage temperature‐programmed fractionating crystallization process was carried out to examine the effects of the presence of stearic acid (SA), oleic acid (OA), and linoleic acid (LA) on the separation of elaidic acid (EA). The results showed that the efficiency of fractionating crystallization of EA depended largely on the crystallization temperature, initial concentration of EA and presence of SA. The content of SA plays very important role for the fractionating performance. It was a characteristic observation that only when SA <2%, substantial crystallization of EA (>50% in stepwise crystal fractions) were obtained regardless of the initial concentration of SA. In general, SA induced crystallization of EA in earlier stage but delayed further crystallization of EA in later stage; the crystallization of EA was independent from co‐existing OA and LA. After reduction of EA content in solution to certain extent (7–10%, at ?20°C), further reduction of EA content requires much lower crystallization temperatures (trans‐fatty acids (TFA) from partially hydrogenated soybean oil (PHSO) is of high commercial interest. One of the strategies is to selectively release TFAs as free fatty acids from PHSO enzymatically. However, all commercially available enzymes are far away from qualified to selectively release TFAs, where there are always substantial non‐trans FAs hydrolyzed simultaneously. Therefore, developing post‐processing technology is requisite in order to recover those non‐trans fatty acids. Thus, this model system was designed based on FA composition characteristic of PHSO, which aimed to acquire some basic data and experience that lack in available literatures, so as to serve designing efficient practical process for removing trans‐fatty acid moieties from PHSO. The results from this work may be of general value to achieve a better understanding of fractionating crystallization behaviors of different FAs, relationship with individual molecular feature and property, and their interference effects, which might contribute to the design of practically feasible protocol to remove TFAs from PHSO and recover non‐trans FAs at the same time.  相似文献

Individuals change over time, often in complex ways. Generally, studies of change over time have combined individuals into groups for analysis, which is inappropriate in most, if not all, studies of development. The authors explain how to identify appropriate levels of analysis (individual vs. group) and demonstrate how to estimate changes in developmental processes over time using a multivariate nonstationary time series model. They apply this model to describe the changing relationships between a biological son and father and a stepson and stepfather at the individual level. The authors also explain how to use an extended Kalman filter with iteration and smoothing estimator to capture how dynamics change over time. Finally, they suggest further applications of the multivariate nonstationary time series model and detail the next steps in the development of statistical models used to analyze individual-level data. Hybrid semiconducting polymer composites containing polyaniline, polyethylene glycol and zinc sulfide have been prepared in various combinations by in-situ polymerization of aniline using ammonium per disulfate in acidic medium. A biomimetic approach of controlled precipitation has been used. A mechanism of formation of these hybrid materials has been suggested in which polyethylene glycol works as a medium for diffusion-limited growth of various components during their precipitation. These materials have been characterized by a variety of spectroscopic techniques, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and alternating current impedance spectroscopy. Equivalent circuits for different contributions from grain, grain boundary and electrode for different systems have been determined with the help of complex non-linear least square analysis software. The microstructure-property correlation have been discussed along with the possible conduction mechanisms from the temperature dependence of conductivity as variable-dimension variable-range hopping for different compositions of single, double and triple composite materials.  相似文献

Thermal hydraulic studies have been carried out to understand temperature dilution suffered by core-temperature monitoring system of a sodium cooled fast reactor. The three-dimensional computational model is validated against experimental results of a water model. Jet mixing phenomenon as predicted by different turbulence models is compared and RNG k? model is found to be better than other models. A comprehensive parametric study considering: (i) effects of construction/manufacturing tolerances on thermocouple positions with respect to subassembly positions, (ii) thermal/irradiation bowing of subassemblies, and (iii) changes in core power profile during reactor operation cycles has been carried out. The studies indicate the maximum possible dilution in fuel and blanket subassemblies to be 2.63 K and 46.84 K, respectively. Shifting of thermocouple positions radially outward by 20 mm with respect to subassembly centers leads to an overall improvement in accuracy of thermocouple readings. It is also seen that subassembly blockage that leads to 7% flow reduction in fuel subassembly and 12% flow reduction in blanket subassembly can be detected effectively by the core-temperature monitoring system.  相似文献

The scaleup behavior of blends exhibiting phase inversion during compounding in batch mixers was studied. Similar morphological changes were observed during compounding of polystyrene/polyethylene blends of different batch sizes ranging from 12g to 240g. The time to achieve a continuous phase of the major component, polystyrene, was shown to depend on the scale of the mixing device. Based on visual observation of the morphological changes, a constant nominal‐maximum‐shear‐rate scaleup condition was used. Upon a five‐fold increase in batch size the time to phase inversion increased by a factor of 3. This change is explained using a combination of the reduced specific area and reduced mechanical energy input under the experimental conditions. A novel blade design using modular triangular elements was constructed and results from radial and axial scaleup using the new blades are presented. Similarities between the triangular and roller blades are used to highlight the importance of the high‐shear region in determining the softening rate of the polystyrene pellets. The flexibility of the blade design was exploited to study the effect of blade configuration on the time to phase inversion. A relative stagger parameter is introduced to explain the observed dependence. Increasing the relative stagger decreased the stress transfer to the batch and increased the time to phase inversion. Implications of these results for mixing in the kneading sections of twin‐screw extruders is discussed.  相似文献

A linear theory is developed for thermoviscoelastic composites modeled as interpenetrating solid continua with memory. The response functionals are considered to depend on the past history of displacement fields, displacement gradients, temperature field, and temperature gradient. BACKGROUND: Volatile blends of five developing and five ripening stages of mango (Mangifera indica L. cv. Alphonso) were investigated along with those of flowers and leaves. Raw and ripe fruits of cv. Sabja were also used for comparison. RESULTS: A total of 55 volatiles belonging to various chemical classes such as aldehydes, alcohols, mono‐ and sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, lactones and furanones were identified. In all Alphonso tissues monoterpenes quantitatively dominated, with 57–99% contribution; in particular, (Z)‐ocimene was found in the highest amount. Ripeness was characterized by the de novo appearance of lactones and furanones in the blend of monoterpenes. Sabja was distinguished by the abundance of monoterpene hydrocarbons in the raw fruit, and that of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons and their derivatives in the ripe stage. CONCLUSION: Various stages of the Alphonso fruit during transition from flower to ripe fruit are characterized by unique volatile signatures that are distinguished from each other by the qualitative and quantitative appearance of different volatile compounds. Interfacial tension and contact angle are two specific important parameters to take decisions for enhanced oil recovery, for instance, proper chemicals to use for surface tension reduction, expected wettability of solids, interaction between crude oil and rock. For this purpose, the article presents a method for easy calculation of the solid-liquid interfacial tension based on contact angle measurements applying Neumann's correlation and Young's equation. The main idea stands on the calculation of the rock parameters, like wettability, with known substances and extend these results to crude oils. It was possible, based on the results obtained, to establish a relationship between solid-liquid interfacial tension and contact angle for the crude oil – rock system, which can definitively be used for the calculation of interfacial tension of any other fluid spread out on the same kind of rock. A linear regression was obtained with an accuracy as good as R2 = 0.9989. Viscosity as a function of contact angle could also be obtained for the studied crude oils in the same kind of rock.  相似文献

Li and Tiwari (2008) recently developed a corrected Z-test statistic for comparing the trends in cancer age-adjusted mortality and incidence rates across overlapping geographic regions, by properly adjusting for the correlation between the slopes of the fitted simple linear regression equations. One of their key assumptions is that the error variances have unknown but common variance. However, since the age-adjusted rates are linear combinations of mortality or incidence counts, arising naturally from an underlying Poisson process, this constant variance assumption may be violated. This paper develops a weighted-least-squares based test that incorporates heteroscedastic error variances, and thus significantly extends the work of Li and Tiwari. The proposed test generally outperforms the aforementioned test through simulations and through application to the age-adjusted mortality data from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Program of the National Cancer Institute.  相似文献

Radio-over- fibre (RoF) technology is receiving large attention due to its ability to provide simple antenna front ends, increased capacity and increased wireless access coverage. Coherently detected RoF systems would enable the information to be carried in both the amplitude and phase or in different states of the polarisation of the optical field. Additionally, the selectivity of coherent receiver is very well suited for access networks. We present a 90° optical hybrid built on a silicon-on-insulator planar light-wave circuit, which can be used as the optical front end of the digital coherent receiver in a digitised RoF link and will lead to reduced receiver footprint and cost. The optical hybrid circuit includes 2?×?2 and 4?×?4 multimode interference (MMI) splitters, in a polarisation diversity configuration. The simulation results at vacuum wavelength 1,550 nm show polarisation independence and phase errors between the ports of less than 0.03°. The properties of the prototyped 4?×?4 MMI were measured over a wide range of wavelengths. The 2?×?2 and 4?×?4 MMI showed nearly equal splitting ratios. Measurements of the relative phase relationship between the ports for Transverse Electric mode polarisation are shown to match the simulation results.  相似文献
