Recently, high‐voltage motor direct drive systems have been put to practical use, and various multilevel PWM strategies have also been proposed. This paper describes a multilevel PWM strategy [our group calls it the Carrier Phase Selection Method (CPS)] that has the lowest line voltage harmonic distortion in order to prevent the degradation of high‐voltage motor winding insulations. This method takes the adverse effect of dead time into consideration, and it controls the shift direction of a carrier phase. Therefore, a favorable output waveform without instantaneous voltage surges is achieved even if the line voltage level changes. Moreover, the switching transitions across all switching devices are well‐balanced, so the utilization of inverter unit cells is equalized. This is an important factor when designing the entire system. Based on simulation and experimental results, it is shown that this CPS method is particularly effective in high‐voltage motor direct drive systems. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The sinterability of high-purity MgO powders with different production histories was investigated to make clear the relationship between the powder characterization, the densification processes, and the changes in microstructure both with increasing temperature at a rate of 10° C min–1 and at a fixed temperature of 1450° C for 5 h. The densification behaviour and the changes in microstructure of these compressed bodies were affected chiefly by their original surface activity and degree of agglomeration, depending on the production histories: (i) the ultra-fine and well-dispersed powder prepared by the vapour-phase oxidation process showed that densification proceeded with an appreciable grain growth with few closed pores remaining; (ii) powder derived from the sea-water magnesia process showed that the densification behaviour was affected by the species of magnesium salt, i.e. basic magnesium carbonate or magnesium hydroxide, used as a precursor; however, whichever magnesium salt was used, its sintered compact showed similar closed porosities and grain-size distributions; (iii) powder derived from the spark-discharge process contained skeletons of the original Mg(OH)2 particles; however, the densification proceeded gradually with slow grain growth, reflecting the fact that the powder has a moderate surface area (36 m2 g–1). A remarkable threshold current density reduction (from 3.5 kA/cm/sup 2/ to 1.6 kA/cm/sup 2/) of GaInP/AlInP visible light lasers grown by gas source molecular beam epitaxy (GS-MBE) was obtained by introducing 50 pairs of GaInP(7.1 AA)/AlInP(7.1 AA) short period superlattice confinement (SLC) layers. We report an instability of 4He crystal surface during a large modification of its shape observed by schlieren photography. 4He crystal was nucleated on an ultrasound transducer which was placed in the upper part of the sample cell facing the bottom.
The crystal was grown on the transducer and the lowest part of it eventually touched the bottom of the cell. Almost immediately,
the crystal started to change shape very quickly to adjust itself to the new boundary condition. During this large deformation,
the hexagonal shape of the crystal surrounded by facets became unstable and the surface became corrugated. The corrugation
pattern during the deformation was observed by a high-speed camera. The results were compared with Kelvin-Helmholtz type instability
which Uwaha and Nozières predicted.

The hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis is stimulated in response to stress. When activated, it is suppressed by the negative feedback effect of glucocorticoids. Glucocorticoids directly inhibit proopiomelanocortin (Pomc) gene expression in the pituitary. Glucocorticoid signaling is mediated via glucocorticoid receptors, 11β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenases, and the FK506-binding immunophilins, Fkbp4 and Fkbp5. Fkbp4 and Fkbp5 differentially regulate dynein interaction and nuclear translocation of the glucocorticoid receptor, resulting in modulation of the glucocorticoid action. Here, we explored the regulation of Fkbp4 and Fkbp5 genes and their proteins with dexamethasone, a major synthetic glucocorticoid drug, in murine AtT-20 corticotroph cells. To elucidate further roles of Fkbp4 and Fkbp5, we examined their effects on Pomc mRNA levels in corticotroph cells. Dexamethasone decreased Pomc mRNA levels as well as Fkpb4 mRNA levels in mouse corticotroph cells. Dexamethasone tended to decrease Fkbp4 protein levels, while it increased Fkpb5 mRNA and its protein levels. The dexamethasone-induced decreases in Pomc mRNA levels were partially canceled by Fkbp4 knockdown. Alternatively, Pomc mRNA levels were further decreased by Fkbp5 knockdown. Thus, Fkbp4 contributes to the negative feedback of glucocorticoids, and Fkbp5 reduces the efficiency of the glucocorticoid effect on Pomc gene expression in pituitary corticotroph cells. 相似文献

Anadevidia peponis and Macdunnoughia confusa are defoliators of plants in the family Cucurbitaceae and Compositae, respectively, in Japan. GC-MS analyses of crude pheromone gland extracts treated with or without dimethyl disulfide indicated that females of A. peponis produced six monoene acetates and two monoene alcohols and that M. confusa females produced five monoene acetates. These components include (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate as a major common constituent and three other acetates as minor common constituents. The minor constituents are quite different in blend composition. In addition, with (Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate, an indispensable component for male attraction is (Z)-5-decenyl acetate for A. peponis and (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate is essential for M. confusa. Field tests with synthetic lures showed synergistic effects of some other minor components and male attraction of three additional Plusiinae species, Macdunnoughia purissima, Ctenoplusia albostriata, and Chrysodeixis eriosoma, suggesting their reproductive isolation is based in part on pheromonal communication. 相似文献

Electrolytic removal of ammonia from brine wastewater: scale‐up,operation and pilot‐scale evaluation

Brine wastewater with a high ammonia content from an iodine processing plant (commonly called kansui in Japan) was treated by electrolysis. The system, which can be considered as an indirect electrolytic treatment process, generates chlorine at the anodes and initiates the formation of mixed oxidants like hypochlorous acid. The oxidants then act as agents for ammonia destruction. Laboratory‐scale experiments showed that high ammonia concentrations (as much as 200 mg dm?3) could be completely removed within a few minutes, and could be considered a good alternative for efficient ammonia removal from saline wastewaters. From laboratory‐scale experiments in the batch and continuous modes, the charge dose was analyzed and used as the operating and scale‐up factor. The value of the charge dose was not severely affected by changes in operating conditions such as electrode spacing and temperature. The charge dose from batch and continuous runs was found to be in the range of 23 C (mg NH4‐N removed)?1 to 29 C (mg NH4‐N removed)?1. Using the charge dose obtained from laboratory‐scale continuous electrolysis experiments as the scale‐up factor, a pilot‐scale reactor was designed, and the operating conditions were calculated. In the pilot‐scale reactor tests at different flow rates, the effluent ammonia concentrations were reasonably close to the calculated values predicted from the charge dose equation. The purpose of the present study is to examine whether isolated Schwann cells that are not in contact with axons can synthesize the basement membrane in vivo. Schwann cells obtained from sciatic nerve of neonate Wistar rats were prepared in culture, harvested, and mixed with collagen matrix. The silicone tube filled with the collagen matrix containing Schwann cells was closed by a Millipore membrane at both ends to isolate the interior from the outer environment and was implanted in a gap between proximal and distal stumps of transected sciatic nerve of an adult Wistar rat. Ten days later, the implanted silicone tube was prepared for electron microscopic observations. Schwann cells in the tube were elongated longitudinally and lined up parallel to the proximo-distal direction. No regenerating axons penetrated the Millipore membrane into the tube. The basement membrane showing almost normal structure was produced on the surface of the Schwann cells. While the silicone tube was placed side by side to the intact sciatic nerve, Schwann cells in the tube were scattered and no basement membrane was observed. These results suggest that some humoral factors might be released from the transected nerve stumps, which may be responsible for the regular arrangement and the basement membrane formation by Schwann cells without any contact with axons. 相似文献
