Titanium alloy (Ti–6Al–7Nb) used for orthopaedic applications was nitrided using a conventional dc plasmatechnique. Load-dependent microhardness measurements exhibit a hardness of 2087 Hv at 25 g load for the alloy nitrided at 900 8C for 8 h. Cyclic polarization measurement in Hanks solution show maximum corrosion rate and minimum areaof repassivation for the alloy nitrided for 8 h at 900 8C. Hydrogen storage in titanium dioxide (TiO2) functionalized (10, 10) armchair single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) is investigated through first principle calculations using density functional theory (DFT). This first principles study uses Vienna Ab-initio Simulation Package (VASP) with ultrasoft pseudopotentials and local density approximation (LDA). The necessary benchmark and other systematic calculations were carried out to project the hydrogen storage capability of the designed system. Interestingly, the TiO2 molecules functionalized on the outer surface of SWCNT do not undergo any dimerization/clustering thus giving excellent stability and usable gravimetric hydrogen storage capacity of 5.7 wt.% and the value nearly fulfills the US DOE target (i.e. 6 wt.%). The band structure and density of states (DOS) plots suggest that the functionalization can lead a way to transform the nature (metallic → semiconducting) of the pristine SWCNT. The nominal values of H2 storage capacity and binding energies give much hope for using CNT functionalized with TiO2 as a practical and reversible hydrogen storage medium (HSM). 相似文献

In this study, the heat and mass transfer of combined free and forced convection in the horizontal rectangle is explored. The governing equations together with the boundary conditions are solved numerically by using the finite volume method. The innovative idea in this study is to appropriately modify the Semi-Implicit Method for Pressure-Linked Equations algorithm and thereby, the numerical solutions of the flow variables such as the temperature and the concentration in addition to the components of velocity and the pressure are computed. The Richardson numbers (Ri) for distinct gases and liquids are calculated for different Rayleigh numbers at low (Re = 50) and high (Re = 5000) Reynolds numbers. The dimensionless parameters, such as the Reynolds number (Re), the Prandtl number (Pr), and the Schmidt number (Sc) are appropriately chosen to calculate the Richardson numbers. Consequently, combined free and forced convection effects are analyzed. Furthermore, the heat and mass transfer aspect for distinct gases and liquids is critically examined using empirical correlations. Biodiesel comprises mono-alkyl esters of long-chain fatty acid methyl esters (FAME) derived from a renewable lipid feedstock. A major technical issue with the use of biodiesel is that it is more prone to oxidation during storage, when compared to petroleum fuel, due to the high content of polyunsaturated methyl esters that are easily oxidizable to compounds such as acids, aldehydes, and alcohols. Biodiesel (Jatropha and Pongamia) and antioxidants (Turmeric and butylated hydroxytoulene) were used for this study. We found that the acid value and viscosity for pongamia biodiesel increased significantly by 41.17% and 44.0% and that for jatropha biodiesel increased by 31.5% and 37.0%, respectively, after being stored for 3 months. The impact of antioxidants on the storage stability of biodiesel was examined according to the ASTM D4625 12-week procedure, and best results were found at a concentration level of 2500 ppm. The specific objective of this investigation is to develop models to determine the viscosity of biodiesel at any time “t” during long-term storage based on these experimental trials for upto 12 weeks. In addition, the models were used to predict the level of antioxidants that are to be added to biodiesel in order to minimize the effects of oxidative degradation during storage.
