Water hydraulic systems use water as a pressure medium and, thus, do not pose such adverse environmental impacts as oil hydraulics. Microbial deterioration of the pressure medium and biofouling of the surfaces restrict the applicability of the water‐based technology. The potential of microbial growth control by UV‐irradiation and filtration was studied in a pilot‐scale water hydraulic system. The UV‐irradiation (25 m Ws cm?2) of the pressure medium reduced the total viable counts of bacteria by 1–2 log10 cfu cm?3, whereas the total microbial cell numbers and the numbers of surface‐attached microorganisms remained unaffected. Prefiltration (1.2 µm, absolute) of the pressure medium decreased the total microbial cell number in the water phase and retarded the attachment of bacteria. The filtration during the operation (2 µm, absolute) decreased the total numbers of microbial cells and the total viable counts in the pressure medium, and microbial attachment on the surfaces. Microbial attachment was not prevented by filtration. The microbial water quality obtained by pre‐ and on‐line filtration of the pressure medium was sufficient to ensure the long‐term operation of the water hydraulic system assuming that clean work practices are complied with in assembly and during the operation. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

A comprehensive experimental study was carried out to replicate sub‐micron features using the injection molding technique. For the experiments, five different plastic materials were selected according to their flow properties. The materials were polycarbonate (PC), styrene‐butadiene block copolymer (SBS), impact modified poly(methyl methacrylate), methyl methacrylate‐acrylonitrile‐butadiene‐styrene polymer (MABS), and cyclic olefin copolymer (COC). Nanofeatures down to 200‐nm line width and with aspect ratios (aspect ratio = depth/width) of 1:1 could be replicated. In all selected materials, the greatest differences between the materials emerged when the aspect ratio increased to 2:1. The most favorable results were obtained with the use of high flow polycarbonate as the molding material. The best replication results were achieved when melt and mold temperatures were higher than normal values.  相似文献

Complete hydrogenation of d-galactose and l-arabinose mixtures on a Ru/C catalyst was achieved with excellent selectivities exceeding 95?%. No unexpected effects of temperature and pressure were observed. A detailed kinetic model was derived to describe the simultaneous hydrogenation of the monomeric sugars.  相似文献

Macroporous, monosized poly(meta‐divinylbenzene) and poly(para‐divinylbenzene) beads have been prepared by the two‐step activated swelling method with toluene or 2‐ethylhexanoic acid as pore‐forming agents. The type of divinylbenzene isomer as well as the type of porogen has a large effect on both physical and chemical properties of the monodisperse beads. Large pores are obtained with 2‐ethylhexanoic acid as porogen while beads prepared in the presence of toluene consist of only small pores and exhibit a shrinking behavior upon drying. The beads have considerable amounts of residual vinyl groups at the end of polymerization, as determined by bromination and Fourier transform IR analysis. The morphology and texture of the particles have been investigated by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. BACKGROUND: Stereo‐regulated polymerization of vinyl ethers (VEs) assumes significance because of its elegance and the resultant unique polymer properties. Although several Lewis acid catalysts polymerize VEs with good control of molecular weight, achieving stereo‐regularity is quite challenging. There are literature reports of a few catalyst systems capable of producing highly isotactic poly(vinyl ether) (PVE) only at lower temperatures with the polymer becoming atactic with an increase in reaction temperature. Hence innovating new catalyst systems which can produce highly stereo‐regular PVEs with high molecular weight at ambient temperature is quite challenging. RESULTS: We used two different titanium pre‐catalysts (1‐TiCl2 and 2‐TiCl2) for the polymerization of VEs. These pre‐catalysts in combination with methylaluminoxane (MAO)/borate polymerized VEs in higher conversions. Highly isotactic poly(n‐butylvinyl ether) (PBVE; 75% dyad isotactic ratio) was obtained with 1‐TiCl2/MAO at ambient temperature. CONCLUSION: We synthesized unimodal and highly isotactic PBVE with molecular weights of the order of 105 g mol?1 using the non‐metallocene‐type single‐site catalyst system 1‐TiCl2/MAO even at ambient temperature. The symmetry around the metal centre in the pre‐catalyst and the polymerization temperature played a major role in controlling the stereo‐regularization of the olefin inserted. A higher-order diffusion model for a bipolar transistor has been developed. This model is based on the Padé approximation of the quasi-static expansions of the base and collector currents and gives improved accuracy for the simulation of fast transients and periodic operation at high frequencies. the effect of higher-order circuit elements on accuracy is demonstrated by calculating the transient response to a step excitation and by determining the scattering parameters of a transistor model with higher-order elements linearized about an operating point. the higher-order model is replaced by an equivalent circuit including only conventional elements, and the transient behaviour of these two models is compared.  相似文献

Absorption in the phase-change layer of an optical disk located in the near field of a Fabry-Perot laser diode is studied with a combination of finite-difference time domain (FDTD) analysis and a phenomenological laser model that predicts the operational characteristics of a laser diode. Some numerical simulations are performed and results are presented. In addition, the combined FDTD/laser-simulation model is described briefly.  相似文献
