Recent experimental studies proved the presence of the triplet spin state in atomically precise heptauthrene nanostructure of nanographene type (composed of two interconnected triangles with zigzag edge). In the paper, we report the computational study predicting the possibility of controlling this spin state with an external in-plane electric field by causing the spin switching. We construct and discuss the ground state magnetic phase diagram involving S=1 (triplet) state, S=0 antiferromagnetic state and non-magnetic state and predict the switching possibility with the critical electric field of the order of 0.1 V/Å. We discuss the spin distribution across the nanostructure, finding its concentration along the longest zigzag edge. To model our system of interest, we use the mean-field Hubbard Hamiltonian, taking into account the in-plane external electric field as well as the in-plane magnetic field (in a form of the exchange field from the substrate). We also assess the effect of uniaxial strain on the magnetic phase diagram.  相似文献

A methodology for screening either various catalysts for a given metathesis reaction, i.e., ring opening‐ring closing alkene metathesis (RO‐RCM) and cross‐metathesis (CM), or various substrates for a given pre‐catalyst on a thin layer chromatography (TLC) plate has been developed. As the substrates elute with the solvent, this TLC‐based system acts as a heterogeneous catalyst bed (“TLC reactor”). Selected promising catalyst candidates were screened on a TLC plate and their initial catalytic potential as observed in the TLC test was later fully confirmed in a classical heterogeneous reaction set‐up using standard commercially available silica (D11‐10). Reacting polyfunctional, natural product‐like substrates in our TLC reactor allows the simultaneous screening of various substrates and the convenient micro‐scale preparation and isolation of potentially biologically active products.  相似文献

Vibrotactile displays can extend the perception capabilities of visually impaired persons. Placing such devices on the head promises easy attachment and detachment without reducing other interaction abilities. However, the effectiveness of head-attached vibrotactile displays has never been thoroughly tested. This paper presents the results obtained from experiments with 22?subjects equipped with a display containing 12 coin-type motors equally spaced in a horizontal plane around the upper head region. Our display allowed single- as well as multimotor activation with up to six simultaneously active motors. We identified the minimum and comfort strength of vibrotactile stimulation, and measured the precision in perceiving the accurate number of active motors as well as the precision in localizing the stimuli on the head. While subjects identified the correct number of active motors in 94% of the cases when presented with only one active motor, this precision dropped to 40% for two and down to 5% for five simultaneously active motors. This strongly suggests to avoid multipoint stimulation even though the precision of localizing a position of a stimulus on the head is barely affected by the number of simultaneously active motors. Localization precision, however, varied significantly with the region of the head suggesting that the most front and back regions of the head should be avoided if high precision is required.  相似文献

Increasingly, airborne mold in home environments has been linked with asthma exacerbation and other respiratory diseases in both children and adults. This problem is particularly relevanttoday, as Hurricane Katrina has resulted in water damage and mold proliferation in numerous homes on the U.S. Gulf Coast. Policies to control indoor moisture and mold can help solve problems of mold contamination and associated adverse health effects, yet very little attention has been given to developing such policies. We address the question of howto develop effective policies by deriving lessons from successful control of other home environmental contaminants; namely, radon and lead. These two agents are being controlled by a variety of policy approaches, including federal regulations and guidelines, public education, and economic incentives among home buyers and sellers. We analyze the mold problem and identify both similarities and differences with the radon and lead situations in the United States. We recommend policy approaches for controlling mold in homes that rely on home marketing incentives, building and housing codes, and maintenance and rehabilitation regulations, as well as public education initiatives.  相似文献

Highly dispersed silicas have been obtained at a semi-technical scale by precipitation from sodium metasilicate solutions using appropriately diluted solutions of ammonium hydrogencarbonate or ammonium chloride. The difference, as compared to the generally applied technology of silica precipitation using acids or their anhydrides, has been the involvement of the precipitation reaction in alkaline media. Attempts have been made at changing the silica surface character from hydrophilic to more hydrophobic, using a modifier from the group of silane coupling agents. The alkoxysilanes modifiers contained groups with chemical affinity towards functional groups of butadiene–styrene rubber. Modification of silica surface using silane coupling agents has been found to improve the reinforcement of vulcanizates, by increasing the tensile and tear strength in particular.  相似文献

Due to the physiological complexity of the tumour, a single drug therapeutic strategy may not be sufficient for effective treatment. Emerging evidence suggests that combination strategies may be important to achieve more efficient tumour responses. Different immunomodulators are frequently tested to reverse the situation for the purpose of improving immune response and minimizing chemotherapy side effects. Immodin (IM) represents an attractive alternative to complement chemotherapy, which can be used to enhance the immune system after disturbances resulting from the side effects of chemotherapy. In the presented study, a model of CT26 tumor-bearing mice was used to investigate the effect of single IM or its combination with 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) on colon cancer cells. Our results highlight that the beneficial role of IM claimed in previous studies cannot be generalised to all chemotherapeutic drugs, as 5-FU toxicity was not increased. On the contrary, the chemotherapeutic anti-cancer efficacy of 5-FU was greatly compromised when combined with IM. Indeed, the combined treatment was significantly less effective regarding the tumour growth and animal survival, most probably due to the increased number of tumour-associated macrophages, and increased 5-FU cytotoxic effect related to kidneys and the liver.  相似文献

Epithelial ovarian cancer has the highest mortality among all gynecological malignancies. The main reasons for high mortality are late diagnosis and development of resistance to chemotherapy. Resistance to chemotherapeutic drugs can result from altered expression of drug-resistance genes regulated by miRNA. The main goal of our study was to detect differences in miRNA expression levels in two doxorubicin (DOX)- and two topotecan (TOP)-resistant variants of the A2780 drug-sensitive ovarian cancer cell line by miRNA microarray. The next aim was to recognize miRNAs as factors responsible for the regulation of drug-resistance genes. We observed altered expression of 28 miRNA that may be related to drug resistance. The upregulation of miR-125b-5p and miR-935 and downregulation of miR-218-5p was observed in both DOX-resistant cell lines. In both TOP-resistant cell lines, we noted the overexpression of miR-99a-5p, miR-100-5p, miR-125b-5p, and miR-125b-2-3p and decreased expression of miR-551b-3p, miR-551b-5p, and miR-383-5p. Analysis of the targets suggested that expression of important drug-resistant genes such as the collagen type I alpha 2 chain (COL1A2), protein Tyrosine Phosphatase Receptor Type K (PTPRK), receptor tyrosine kinase—EPHA7, Roundabout Guidance Receptor 2 (ROBO2), myristoylated alanine-rich C-kinase substrate (MARCK), and the ATP-binding cassette subfamily G member 2 (ABCG2) can be regulated by miRNA.  相似文献

In this article, we describe the antimicrobial properties of a new composite based on anodic aluminium oxide (AAO) membranes containing propyl-copper-phosphonate units arranged at a predetermined density inside the AAO channels. The samples were prepared with four concentrations of copper ions and tested as antimicrobial drug on four different strains of Escherichia coli (K12, R2, R3 and R4). For comparison, the same strains were tested with three types of antibiotics using the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) tests. Moreover, DNA was isolated from the analysed bacteria which was additionally digested with formamidopyrimidine-DNA glycosylase (Fpg) protein from the group of repair glycosases. These enzymes are markers of modified oxidised bases in nucleic acids produced during oxidative stress in cells. Preliminary cellular studies, MIC and MBC tests and digestion with Fpg protein after modification of bacterial DNA suggest that these compounds may have greater potential as antibacterial agents than antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin, bleomycin and cloxacillin. The described composites are highly specific for the analysed model Escherichia coli strains and may be used in the future as new substitutes for commonly used antibiotics in clinical and nosocomial infections in the progressing pandemic era. The results show much stronger antibacterial properties of the functionalised membranes on the action of bacterial membranes in comparison to the antibiotics in the Fpg digestion experiment. This is most likely due to the strong induction of oxidative stress in the cell through the breakdown of the analysed bacterial DNA. We have also observed that the intermolecular distances between the functional units play an important role for the antimicrobial properties of the used material. Hence, we utilised the idea of the 2D solvent to tailor them.  相似文献

MAGE (melibiose-derived advanced glycation end-product) is the glycation product generated in the reaction of a model protein with melibiose. The in vivo analog accumulates in several tissues; however, its origin still needs explanation. In vitro MAGE is efficiently generated under dry conditions in contrast to the reaction carried in an aqueous solvent. Using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry, we analyzed the physicochemical properties and structures of myoglobin glycated with melibiose under different conditions. The targeted peptide analysis identified structurally different AGEs, including crosslinking and non-crosslinking modifications associated with lysine, arginine, and histidine residues. Glycation in a dry state was more efficient in the formation of structures containing an intact melibiose moiety (21.9%) compared to glycation under aqueous conditions (15.6%). The difference was reflected in characteristic fluorescence that results from protein structural changes and impact on a heme group of the model myoglobin protein. Finally, our results suggest that the formation of in vitro MAGE adduct is initiated by coupling melibiose to a model myoglobin protein. It is confirmed by the identification of intact melibiose moieties. The intermediate glycation product can further rearrange towards more advanced structures, including cross-links. This process can contribute to a pool of AGEs accumulating locally in vivo and affecting tissue biology.  相似文献
