Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is frequently seen in females of reproductive age and is associated with metabolic disorders that are exacerbated by obesity. Although body weight reduction programs via diet and lifestyle changes are recommended for modifying reproductive and metabolic phenotypes, the drop-out rate is high. Thus, an efficacious, safe, and continuable treatment method is needed. Recent studies have shown that oxytocin (OT) reduces body weight gain and food intake, and promotes lipolysis in some mammals, including humans (especially obese individuals), without any adverse effects. In the present study, we evaluated the changes in endogenous OT levels, and the effects of acute and chronic OT administration on body weight changes, food intake, and fat mass using novel dihydrotestosterone-induced PCOS model rats. We found that the serum OT level was lower in PCOS model rats than in control rats, whereas the hypothalamic OT mRNA expression level did not differ between them. Acute intraperitoneal administration of OT during the dark phase reduced the body weight gain and food intake in PCOS model rats, but these effects were not observed in control rats. In contrast, chronic administration of OT decreased the food intake in both the PCOS model rats and control rats. These findings indicate that OT may be a candidate medicine that is efficacious, safe, and continuable for treating obese PCOS patients.  相似文献

Abstract— A new method for determining the thickness, twist angle, and azimuth of the director for a substrate with twisted‐nematic (TN) and super‐twisted‐nematic (STN) liquid‐crystal (LC) cells has been proposed. The measurement was carried out by using an optical system which consisted of a monochromatic light source, polarizer, rotating analyzer, and software programs. The polarization transfer matrix, or Jones matrix, of a TN or an STN LC cell is formulated by the Fourier coefficient of the signal that is modulated by the rotating analyzer. These three alignment parameters are derived directly from components of the Jones matrix. We made a special effort to design the system to ensure accurate, stable, and quick measurement. Thus, the three parameters were determined simultaneously within a few seconds with good reproducibility; e.g., the standard deviation of the twist angle in the TN cell is 0.02° or less.  相似文献

In this paper, we study a new semantics of logic programming and deductive databases. Thepossible model semantics is introduced as a declarative semantics of disjunctive logic programs. The possible model semantics is an alternative theoretical framework to the classical minimal model semantics and provides a flexible inference mechanism for inferring negation in disjunctive logic programs. We also present a proof procedure for the possible model semantics and show that the possible model semantics has an advantage from the computational complexity point of view.This is a revised and extended version of the paper [36] which was presented at the Tenth International Conference on Logic Programming, Budapest, 21–25 June 1993.  相似文献

This paper presents a general procedure for inverse entailment which constructs inductive hypotheses in inductive logic programming. Based on inverse entailment, not only unit clauses but also characteristic clauses are deduced from a background theory together with the negation of positive examples. Such clauses can be computed by a resolution method for consequence finding. Unlike previous work on inverse entailment, our proposed method called CF-induction is sound and complete for finding hypotheses from full clausal theories, and can be used for inducing not only definite clauses but also non-Horn clauses and integrity constraints. We also show that CF-induction can be used to compute abductive explanations, and then compare induction and abduction from the viewpoint of inverse entailment and consequence finding.  相似文献

A new sweet potato breeding line, Kanto 116, was developed, featuring low gelatinization temperature and an altered starch fine structure. Starch granules from Kanto 116 showed an abnormal morphology characterized by cracking into granules. Starch content, amylose content and tuberous root appearance of Kanto 116 were similar to those of the control and the parents. Pasting temperatures of Kanto 116 starch determined by the Rapid Visco Analyser were 51.4 — 52.6 °C, approximately 20 °C lower than those of the control and parents starches. Onset, peak, and conclusion temperature of gelatinization, and gelatinization enthalpy of Kanto 116 starch determined by differential scanning calorimetry were 39.0 °C, 46.9 °C, 64.8 °C, and 8.8 J/g, respectively, and much lower than those of the control and parents starches. The chain‐length distribution of the amylopectin molecules, determined by high‐performance anion‐exchange chromatography, showed that Kanto 116 starch had a higher proportion of short chains (DP 6 — 11) and a lower proportion of chains between DP 12 — 28 than control and parent starches. The debranched β‐limit dextrin of Kanto 116 starch also showed that the proportion of both short and long B1 chains was different from those of the control and parents starches.  相似文献

GaAs single‐junction and InGaP/GaAs multi‐junction thin‐film solar cells fabricated on Si substrates have great potential for high‐efficiency, low‐cost, lightweight and large‐area space solar cells. Heteroepitaxy of GaAs thin films on Si substrates has been examined and high‐efficiency GaAs thin‐film solar cells with total‐area efficiencies of 18·3% at AM0 and 20·0% at AM 1·5 on Si substrates (GaAs‐on‐Si solar cells) have been fabricated. In addition, 1‐MeV electron irradiation damage to GaAs‐on‐Si cells has been studied. The GaAs‐on‐Si cells are found to show higher end‐of‐life efficiency than the conventional GaAs cells fabricated on GaAs substrates (GaAs‐ on‐GaAs cells) under high‐fluence 1‐MeV electron irradiation of more than 1 × 1015 cm−2. The first space flight to make use of them has been carried out. Forty‐eight 2 × 2 cm GaAs‐on‐Si cells with an average AM0 total‐area efficiency of 16·9% have been evaluated in the Engineering Test Satellite No.6 (ETS‐VI). The GaAs‐on‐Si cells have been demonstrated to be more radiation‐resistant in space than GaAs‐on‐GaAs cells and 50, 100 and 200‐μm‐thick Si cells. These results show that the GaAs‐on‐Si single‐junction and InGaP/GaAs‐on‐Si multi‐junction cells have great potential for space applications. Copyright © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
