For the purpose of estimating the reaction mechanism of the direct ethoxylation of a fatty ester in the presence of an Al-Mg
composite oxide catalyst, a labeled fatty methyl ester C11H23CO18OCH3 containing 18O isotope was synthesized and directly ethoxylated. The product was evaluated by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
The GC-MS spectra showed that the 18O isotope label was present only in the methoxy group at the molecular end of the ethoxylated fatty methyl ester. This supports
the reaction mechanism of coordination anionic polymerization where the bond between the acyl and methoxy groups of the fatty
methyl ester molecule was broken, caused by the bifunctional effect of the acid-base active sites; an intermediate chemisorption

The performance of poly-β-naphthalene sulfonate condensate superplasticizer (BNS) as a dispersant for cement in concrete is affected severely by slight differences in the characteristics of the cement. In order to be able to predict these effects, a model for estimating the fluidity of cement paste containing BNS is proposed. This model is based on an assumption that the fluidity of cement paste is proportional to the BNS adsorption amount per surface area of hydrated cement (Ad/Hy). BNS is known to show two types of sorption on hydrated cement: one is the bulk absorption into initial hydrates and the other one is the superficial adsorption onto hydrates. Only the superficially adsorbed BNS is expected to work as a dispersant. By assuming a competitive Langmuir-type adsorption on hydrates between BNS and SO4 2− , a simple method to estimate Ad/Hy is developed, with the concentrations of BNS and SO4 2− as the only two independent parameters. The resulting estimates of Ad/Hy show a good correlation with paste flow and its change with elapsed time for a broad range of cements. The SO4 2− concentration in the aqueous phase of the cement paste just after the beginning of the mixing is known to affect the performance of BNS as a dispersant. By using the proposed model to discriminate between the superficial adsorption and bulk absorption of BNS, this phenomenon is explained quantitatively. 相似文献

Polystyrene (PS)/poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) prototype brushes were prepared by alternating free‐radical copolymerization of methacryloyl‐terminated PS and α‐vinylbenzyl‐ω‐hydroxy or α‐vinylbenzyl‐ω‐perfluoroalkyl (Rf) PEO macromonomers with the addition of Lewis acid (SnCl4). It was found from their dilute‐solution properties that PS/PEO end‐capped with Rf (PBRf), and PS/PEO having OH groups at terminal ends (PBOH) prototype brushes formed a single molecule in benzene and aggregates in chloroform, respectively. However, the brush PBOH formed a single molecule in N,N‐dimethylformamide. Such aggregation behaviors seemed to be caused by the interaction between hydroxy groups of PEO chain ends. The brush PBOH was also converted into PBRf‐type brush by chemical modification, using corresponding acid chloride. Understanding the structure/property relationship in polymer/layered silicate nanocomposites is of great importance in designing materials with desired properties. In order to understand these relations, a series of polylactide (PLA)/organically modified layered silicate (OMLS) nanocomposites have been prepared using a simple melt extrusion technique. Four different types of OMLS have been used for the preparation of nanocomposites, three were modified with functionalized ammonium salts while fourth one was a phosphonium salt modified OMLS. The structure of the nanocomposites in the nanometer scale was characterized by using wide-angle X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopic observations. Using four different types of layered silicates modified with four different types of surfactants, the effect of OMLS in nanocomposites was investigated by focusing on four major aspects: structural analysis, thermal properties and spherulite morphology, materials properties, and biodegradability. Unlike common rigid bodies, lightweight rigid bodies have special and spectacular motions that are known as free fall, such as fluttering (oscillation from side to side) and tumbling (rotation and sideways drifting). However, computer graphics applications cannot simulate the dynamics of lightweight rigid bodies in various environments realistically and efficiently. In this study, we first analyze the physical characteristics of free-fall motions in quiescent flow and propose a new procedural motion-synthesis method for modeling free-fall motions in interactive environments. Six primitive motions of lightweight rigid bodies are defined in a phase diagram and analyzed separately using a trajectory-search tree and precomputed trajectory database. The global paths of free-fall motions are synthesized on the basis of these primitive motions by using a free-fall motion graph whose edges are connected in the Markov-chain model. Then, our approach integrates external forces (e.g., a wind field) by using an improved noise-based algorithm under different force magnitudes and object release heights. This approach exhibits not only realistic simulation results in various environments but also fast computation to meet real-time requirements. 相似文献

Discriminative regression models have proved effective for many vision applications (here we focus on 3D full-body and head pose estimation from image and depth data). However, dataset bias is common and is able to significantly degrade the performance of a trained model on target test sets. As we show, covariate shift, a form of unsupervised domain adaptation (USDA), can be used to address certain biases in this setting, but is unable to deal with more severe structural biases in the data. We propose an effective and efficient semi-supervised domain adaptation (SSDA) approach for addressing such more severe biases in the data. Proposed SSDA is a generalization of USDA, that is able to effectively leverage labeled data in the target domain when available. Our method amounts to projecting input features into a higher dimensional space (by construction well suited for domain adaptation) and estimating weights for the training samples based on the ratio of test and train marginals in that space. The resulting augmented weighted samples can then be used to learn a model of choice, alleviating the problems of bias in the data; as an example, we introduce SSDA twin Gaussian process regression (SSDA-TGP) model. With this model we also address the issue of data sharing, where we are able to leverage samples from certain activities (e.g., walking, jogging) to improve predictive performance on very different activities (e.g., boxing). In addition, we analyze the relationship between domain similarity and effectiveness of proposed USDA versus SSDA methods. Moreover, we propose a computationally efficient alternative to TGP (Bo and Sminchisescu 2010), and it’s variants, called the direct TGP. We show that our model outperforms a number of baselines, on two public datasets: HumanEva and ETH Face Pose Range Image Dataset. We can also achieve 8–15 times speedup in computation time, over the traditional formulation of TGP, using the proposed direct formulation, with little to no loss in performance. 相似文献

An investigation was undertaken on the application of dilute chitosan solutions gelled by tyrosinase‐catalyzed reaction with 3,4‐dihydroxyphenethylamine (dopamine). The tyrosinase‐catalyzed reaction with dopamine conferred water‐resistant adhesive properties to the semidilute chitosan solutions. The viscosity of the chitosan solutions increased highly by the tyrosinase‐catalyzed reaction and the subsequent reactions between o‐quinone compounds and chitosan. These highly viscous, gel‐like modified chitosan materials were allowed to spread onto the surfaces of the glass slides, which were tightly lapped together and held them in water. Tensile shear adhesive strength of over 400 kPa was observed for the modified chitosan samples. The increase in the amino group concentration of the chitosan solutions and the molecular mass of the chitosan used effectively led to the increase in adhesive strength of the glass slides. In addition, in the case where the chitosan solution was gelled by the enzymatic reaction with dopamine in the presence of poly(ethylene glycol), adhesive strength sharply increased at shorter reaction times concomitantly with the increase in the viscosity of the chitosan solutions because the tyrosinase activity effectively was retained by poly(ethylene glycol). © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The thermal behavior of nanoparticles BaTiO3 , prepared by a radio-frequency plasma chemical vapor deposition (RF-plasma CVD) method, was characterized by various analysis methods. The BaCO3 phase was included in the powder as byproducts, which is also observed in hydrothermal BaTiO3 powder. The BaCO3 phase decomposed and disappeared by annealing at 873 K for 30 min. H2 O, N2 , CO2 and H2 , were detected by a thermal desorption spectra measurement from BaTiO3 powder. The annealed powder became well-crystallized particles without grain growth, although as-prepared powder included polycrystalline particles. We successfully observed in-situ grain growth for BaTiO3 nanoparticles by thermal transmission electron microscope. At the initial step of normal grain growth, very fine particles with 40–60 nm diameters started to merge into the larger grains around 1083 K. The migration rate was measured by video images and a grain boundary diffusion coefficient Dgb was calculated. 相似文献

Photon rupture with a focused single pulse of pulsed YAG-laser irradiation was used to fabricate an aluminum electrochemical micro-reactor. Porous type anodic oxide film formed on aluminum specimens was irradiated in solutions with a pulsed Nd-YAG laser beam through a convex lens to fabricate micro-channels, micro-electrode, and through holes (for reference electrode, solution inlet, and outlet). During irradiation, specimens were moved by a computer controlled XYZ stage. After irradiation, the surface of the micro-channel and through hole were again treated to form anodic oxide film and the surface of the micro-electrode was treated electrochemically to provide an Au layer. The calculated volume of the micro-reactor including micro-channel and through holes is about 1.5 μl. The cyclic voltammogram of the micro-electrochemical cell was measured in K3Fe(CN)6/K4Fe(CN)6 with both static and flowing solution at different scanning rates. The anodic and cathodic peak currents were measured and the values depended on scanning rate and ion concentration when the solution was static. With the flowing solution, limiting currents were observed and the anodic limiting current was increased with the cubic root of the solution flow rate. 相似文献

Incubation with sesame oil increases the mycelial dihomo-γ-linolenic acid content of an arachidonic acid-producing fungus,Mortierella alpina, but decreases its arachidonic acid content [Shimizu, S., K. with both a cell-free extract of the fungus and with rat liver microsomes demonstrated that (+)-sesamin specifically inhibits
Δ5 desaturase at low concentrations, but does not inhibit Δ6, Δ9 and Δ12 desaturases. Kinetic analysis showed that (+)-sesamin
is a noncompetitive inhibitor (Ki for rat liver Δ5 desaturase, 155 μM). (+)-Sesamolin, (+)-sesaminol and (+)-episesamin, also inhibited only Δ5 desaturases
of the fungus and liver. These results demonstrate that (+)-sesamin and related lignan compounds present in sesame seeds or
its oil are specific inhibitors of Δ5 desaturase in polyunsaturated fatty acid biosynthesis in both microorganisms and animals.
