Summary: Silk fibroin cast film was prepared using a ternary solvent system of CaCl2/CH3CH2OH/H2O (1/2/8 in mole ratio). A drying temperature at casting influenced crystal structure of fibroin. When a drying temperature was set lower than 9 °C, the cast film became amorphous. When a drying temperature was set higher than 40 °C, a fibroin film of silk‐II structure was obtained. In order to produce a fibroin film of silk‐I structure, a preferable temperature range was from 20 to 26 °C. The crystal transformation from random coil structure into silk‐I could be made through exposure of an amorphous film to water vapor. As for the crystal transformation from silk‐I into silk‐II, the treatment with a glycerin solution was effective. In the course of the treatment a film showed self‐thinning and self‐expanding. The expansion ratio exceeded 40% at maximum. The film produced accompanying self‐expansion was ductile in nature.

Reproducible amounts of lactic acid accumulate in minced kitchen refuse under open conditions with intermittent pH neutralization [Sakai et al., Food Sci. Technol. Res., 6, 140 (2000)]. Here, we showed that such pH-controlled open fermentation of kitchen refuse reproducibly resulted a selective proliferation of a major lactic acid bacterial (LAB) species. In one experiment, the predominant microorganisms isolated during the early phase (6 h) were Gammaproteobacteria. In contrast, those that predominated during the late phase (48 h) were always Lactobacillus plantarum in three independent experiments. To further quantify the microbial community within open lactic acid fermentation, we performed fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis targeting 16S (23S) rRNA. We designed two new group-specific DNA probes: LAC722(L) was active for most LAB including the genera Lactobacillus, Pediococcus, Leuconostoc and Weisella, whereas Lplan477 was specific for L. plantarum and its related species. We then optimized sample preparation using lysozyme and hybridization conditions including temperature, as well as the formamide concentration and the salt concentration in the washing buffer. We succeeded in quantification of microorganisms in semi-solid, complex biological materials such as minced kitchen refuse by taking color microphotographs in modified RGB balance on pre-coated slides. FISH analysis of the fermentation of kitchen refuse indicated that control of the pH swing leads to domination by the LAB population in minced kitchen refuse under open conditions. We also confirmed that L. plantarum, which generates lactic acid in high quantities but with low optical activity, became the dominant microorganism in kitchen refuse during the late phase of open fermentation. 相似文献
There has been continuous progress at the High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK) in R&D on vacuum beam ducts adaptable to future high-current particle storage rings. Here we proposed copper beam ducts with antechambers to deal with the severe issues attributed to the high beam currents. The proposed antechamber scheme can withstand intense synchrotron radiation (SR), provide a beam duct with low beam impedance, and effectively reduce the electron cloud effect (ECE) in positron/proton rings. Several trial models were manufactured by a pressing or cold-drawn method, and assembled with electron beam welding. Special vacuum components, such as connection flanges, distributed pumps, and gate valves, were customized for the beam ducts. TiN coating on the inner surface of the beam duct was also investigated as a mitigating measure for the ECE. Trial models of the copper beam ducts were installed into the KEK B-factory (KEKB), and their performances were evaluated using real positron and electron beams. 相似文献
We have proposed the synthesis of organic molecular nanowires using porous alumina as a template. We also proposed the use of a magnetic field to control the molecular packing structure in the nanowires. In this paper, we developed the method to evaluate the electronic properties of the nanowire of a phthalocyanine derivative that was synthesized using porous alumina as a template. The developed method facilitates the study in the organic molecular nanowires that were synthesized using templates and helps their use in future electronic devices. 相似文献
The present study examined odorant communication during acute illness provoked by injection of lipopolysaccharide (LPS; 100 μg/kg) and how these effects vary between prepubertal and adult conspecifics. Exposure to odor of LPS-treated adult male rats produced increased avoidance in both sexes of adults and prepubertal male partners. This response was not found when they were exposed to odor of LPS-treated prepubertal males. Even a 2.5-fold higher load of LPS in prepubertal males failed to produce aversive odor cues, suggesting that the difference in the odor is not a simple issue of dose/body volume. Both estradiol benzoate (20 μg/kg) and testosterone propionate (500 μg/kg), but not dihydrotestosterone (500 μg/kg) pretreatment in prepubertal males administered LPS restored the expression of aversive odor. These hormone treatments per se did not influence odor properties of prepubertal males, indicating that estrogen receptors may play a key regulatory role in the expression of aversive odor in LPS-treated prepubertal rats. These data suggest that the expression of sickness-related odor emerges through puberty, and likely involves a complex interaction between inflammation and sex steroids across development. The novel optically active (S)-4-benzyl-2-(ethynylphenyl)-oxazoline (BnEPhOx) was successfully prepared and polymerized using rhodium catalyst ([Rh(nbd)Cl]2) to obtain the moderate molecular weight poly(phenylacetylene)s bearing chiral oxazoline derivatives with high yields (≥90%). The 1H NMR spectra demonstrated that the resulting polymers had high stereoregular structures. Moreover, the poly(phenylacetylene)s bearing chiral oxazoline exhibited better thermal stability than poly(phenylacetylene). The resulting polymers showed higher absolute values of optical specific rotation than the monomer. The polymers also exhibited intense CD signal in the region of the π-π1 band of the conjugated polyacetylene backbone in chloroform solution. The results of specific rotation and CD spectroscopy indicated that all the polymers adopted higher-order structure with predominantly one-handed screw sense.In addition, the resulting polymers emitted fluorescence under UV irradiation. 相似文献
Previous work has shown that male sorghum plant bugs, Stenotus rubrovittatus (Matsumura) (Heteroptera: Miridae), are more attracted to young virgin females than to old virgin females and are not attracted
to mated females. Therefore, we examined the effects of age and mating status on female sex pheromone levels. The pheromone
components, hexyl butyrate, (E)-hex-2-en-1-yl butyrate, and (E)-4-oxohex-2-enal, were collected from females in two different ways. First, the compounds were extracted from whole bodies
of each female and quantified by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Pheromone levels extracted from virgin female
bodies decreased with age. In females that had just mated, pheromone levels did not differ from those of virgin females, and
pheromone levels in mated females remained relatively constant up to 15 d after mating. This absence of change in pheromone
levels extracted from whole bodies of mated females is not congruent with previous reports of lack of male attraction to these
females. In a second method for pheromone recovery (adsorption on a PDMS-coated stir bar), GC-MS analysis showed that mated
females released lower amounts of pheromone components compared to those emitted by virgin females of the same age (4 d).
As was the case with whole body extracts, young virgin females (3 d) released higher amounts of pheromone components than
did old virgin females (8 d). The results suggest that male response in S. rubrovittatus is dictated more by the quantities of pheromone components released into the volatile headspace by females than by the quantities

Extant research on high-performance work systems (HPWSs) has primarily examined the effects of HPWSs on establishment or firm-level performance from a management perspective in manufacturing settings. The current study extends this literature by differentiating management and employee perspectives of HPWSs and examining how the two perspectives relate to employee individual performance in the service context. Data collected in three phases from multiple sources involving 292 managers, 830 employees, and 1,772 customers of 91 bank branches revealed significant differences between management and employee perspectives of HPWSs. There were also significant differences in employee perspectives of HPWSs among employees of different employment statuses and among employees of the same status. Further, employee perspective of HPWSs was positively related to individual general service performance through the mediation of employee human capital and perceived organizational support and was positively related to individual knowledge-intensive service performance through the mediation of employee human capital and psychological empowerment. At the same time, management perspective of HPWSs was related to employee human capital and both types of service performance. Finally, a branch's overall knowledge-intensive service performance was positively associated with customer overall satisfaction with the branch's service. Two new applications using multiple ion isolations in the cell of a Fourier transform-ion cyclotron resonance mass spectrometer equipped with an electrospray ionization source are described. A procedure that uses multiple ion isolations of an analyte and calibrants for internal calibration at each stage in a MSn experiment, under high-resolution exact-mass conditions, for structural characterization/elucidation of angiotensin I and rapamycin is illustrated. Fragment ion mass accuracies < 1.0 ppm are demonstrated and routinely achieved. Purification of a mixture is illustrated by isolating multiple charge states of a protein-drug complex from residual protein for further MSn studies to elucidate the site of covalent drug bonding using IRMPD for a mixture of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFr) protein and EGFr-drug complex. The procedure developed for multiple ion isolations is referred to as multi-CHEF, multiple correlated harmonic excitation fields, in which tailored waveforms are used to notch out multiple mass regions of a spectrum with minimal off-resonance excitation. 相似文献
Theory is little used in the prediction of physician cancer screening stage of change. Structural equation modeling was used to evaluate the theoretical predictors of stage of change to recommend colonoscopy among 235 urban physicians. Constructs from the theory of planned behavior, social-cognitive theory, and the transtheoretical model were systematically tested. As predicted, contextual factors, such as the physicians' ages, their race-ethnicities, patient race-ethnicity, and office-related barriers to preventive care were associated with stage of change through self-efficacy, normative beliefs, and negative behavioral beliefs. The findings demonstrate the relevance of these models to studying the behavior of physicians and support the development of interventions that are tailored to normative beliefs and specific physician cognitions for colonoscopy recommendation.
