The parallel operation of pulsed discharges generated inside bubbles is successfully demonstrated by applying a fast rising voltage to a multielectrode system immersed in treated water. A 10 ppm solution of acetic acid, which cannot be decomposed by ozone, was used as a persistent material and the acetic acid decomposition efficiency was evaluated by measuring the total organic carbon (TOC) values of the solution. The electric conductivity of the solution affected decomposition efficiency because the solution resistance, which was inversely proportional to the conductivity, limited the magnitude of the discharge current flowing along the surface of the bubbles generated by the feeding of oxygen or argon gas. With a nine‐hole electrode system, the discharge power deposited in one discharge was lower, and the acetic acid decomposition efficiency was higher, than the values obtained with a single‐hole electrode system. Lower discharge power seemed to minimize the self‐quenching of OH radicals, and resulted in the efficient decomposition of acetic acid. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Ozone coupled with pre-chloramination was evaluated as an effective color removal and bromate control method for groundwater at Mesa Water's Well #8. A modified solution ozone test procedure was employed to simulate the sidestream ozone injection. Satisfactory color removal (<10 PtCo CU) was achieved with 2 mg/L of ozone in the presence or absence of preformed monochloramine or ammonia. While bromate formation was reduced by 67% and 83% with 0.3 and 0.6 mg/L of ammonia-N alone, respectively, 68% and 92% of bromate formation was suppressed with 1.0 and 2.0 mg/L of monochloramine as Cl2, respectively. Only the pre-treatment with 2.0 mg/L of monochloramine provided sufficient bromate control to meet its maximum contaminant level of 10 μg/L. UV and fluorescence analyses showed effective destruction of color-causing organics by ozone in the presence of preformed monochloramine.  相似文献

We measured transient absorption in α-Al2O3 after pulsed electron beam irradiation to analyze the relaxation process of excited states. We used two measurement systems to obtain transient absorption in nanosecond and picosecond time scales. In the nanosecond time scale, we observed a band at 610 nm in addition to a shoulder at 420 nm. This observation is consistent with that in a previous paper, and these bands are attributed to Al interstitials according to the paper. The decay behavior of these bands was significantly different in the picosecond time scale. The difference in the decay kinetics strongly suggests that the band at 610 nm and the shoulder at 420 nm are attributed to two kinds of Al interstitials.  相似文献

In an effort to establish a universal model to predict the mechanical properties from processing conditions, tensile tests have been conducted of four single-structure steels, namely, ferrite, pearlite, bainite, and martensite; the data obtained were analyzed in terms of the Ludwik, Hollomon, and Swift equations to characterize their work-hardening behavior. It was found that the differential Crussard-Jaoul (C-J) analysis, based on the Ludwik equation, can describe the work-hardening behavior of these steels fairly well. The differential C-J analysis has shown that the ferrite and pearlite steels deform with two stages of work hardening, each stage associated with a distinctive value of the work-hardening exponent n. Martensitic steels exhibit single-stage work hardening. In bainite, the behavior was found to be dependent on transformation temperature; upper and lower bainite exhibit a behavior similar to pearlitic steels and quenched martensite, respectively. This can be well understood in terms of the similarity of the corresponding microstructures. On the basis of these results, the work-hardening behavior of single-structure steels falls into four categories, according to the n value. This classification may serve as a useful guide to predict the flow behavior of steels with a known microstructure or to judge the microstructure merely by stress-strain curves, without microstructural observations.  相似文献

A recent method for NO detection is electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) with ferrous and mononitrosyl dithiocarbamate (Fe2+ (DETC)2) for spin trapping [Menon, N.K., et al., J.Mol. Cell Cardiol., 23:389; 1991]. However, by this technique, we failed to detect the spectrum of the NOFe2+ (DETC)2 complex in biological systems because of the low solubility of Fe2+ (DETC)2 and rapid oxidation of NOFe2+ (DETC)2 complex. To overcome these problems, we modified this method by adding albumin to solubilize Fe2+ (DETC)2 and Na2S2O4 as a strong reductant to increase the sensitivity and stability of the EPR spectrum of the NOFe2+ (DETC)2 complex. The optimal concentrations of these reagents were 3.3 mM of Fe2+ and DETC, 33 mg/ml albumin and 2 M Na2S2O4. The detection limit was less than 10 pmol/ml under these conditions. By this modified method, we succeeded in quantifying NO production from porcine aorta induced by forskolin.  相似文献

The immunoprophylaxis of mycoplasmal pneumonia of swine (MPS) caused by Mycoplasma hypopneumoniae was investigated for the first time in fattening pigs in Croatia. The incidence of MPS was monitored in pigs weighing on average 27.5 kg (12 weeks old) after immunization with a M. hyopneumoniae vaccine. Of 350 pigs in each group, in the nonvaccinated group 55 animals (15.7%) were affected by pneumonia and 11 (3.1%) died of consequences of pneumonia, whereas in the vaccinated group 20 pigs (5.7%) were affected by pneumonia without any death due to the infection. In the nonvaccinated group 44% more pigs were individually treated with antibiotic, and these animals received in-feed therapy for more than 1/4 of the fattening period. Vaccinated pigs gained weight faster, at the rate of 0.745 kg/day (or 82 g/day more) than control animals. The mean score of lung lesions due to M. hyopneumoniae was 10.51 in the control pigs and only 0.54 in the vaccinated animals. The total tissue alterations on lungs due to M. hyopneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida and/or Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae expressed as the mean-score were 13.21 in the control group and 2.98 in the vaccinated group. According to the results of evaluation of the M. hyopneumoniae vaccine in the field, the vaccine appeared to provide an adequate immunity in fattening pigs but was less effective when administered to younger pigs at 1-3 weeks of age.  相似文献

The authors propose a very simple tunable laser with a striped thin-film heater. The wavelength of this laser changes with a sensitivity of 3.2 nm/W to the input heating power. This laser can be continuously tuned over a range of 4 nm while maintaining an optical power of 20 mW and with a linewidth of less than 2.5 MHz. When this laser is mounted on a module, its 90% response time is 6 ms, which is fast enough for use as a local oscillator in several applications  相似文献
