Object-oriented principles have introduced several useful concepts for developing complex software systems. As a result, several methodologies have been suggested for the overall design of software systems based on these concepts. Methodologies and frameworks for designing objects that are to be part of the software systems are currently lacking. This paper proposes anobject design framework andmethodology, which utilizes the object-oriented concepts, for planning, organizing and designing structural engineering design objects. Design objects in an integrated structural engineering system are complex and often related to each other in various different ways. The paper also identifies several important relationships among structural engineering design objects. These relationships serve as communication channels through wich design objects send messages to and receive responses from each other. Several examples, drawn from reinforced concrete structures, will be presented to demonstrate the object design methodology and to illustrate how the framework is effective in reducing the complexity of design objects in an integrated structural engineering system.  相似文献

Because of the huge volume of capital required to construct a modern electric power generating station, investment decisions have to be made with as complete an understanding of the consequences of the decision as possible. This understanding must be provided by the evaluation of future situations. A key consideration in an evaluation is the financial component. This paper attempts to use an econometric method to forecast the construction costs escalation of a standard Canadian nuclear generating station (NGS). A brief review of the history of Canadian nuclear electric power is provided. The major components of the construction costs of a Canadian NGS are studied and summarized. A database is built and indexes are prepared. Based on these indexes, an econometric forecasting model is constructed using an apparently new econometric methodology of forecasting modelling. Forecasts for a period of 40 years are generated and applications (such as alternative scenario forecasts and range forecasts) to uncertainty assessment and/or decision-making are demonstrated. The indexes, the model, and the forecasts and their applications, to the best of the author's knowledge, are the first for Canadian NGS constructions.  相似文献

In patients with proteinuria, African-American (AA) ethnicity is reported to be a risk factor for focal segmental glomerulosclereosis (FSGS) and its progression to end-stage renal disease (ESRD). We reviewed our single-center experience to determine the probability of FSGS and its progression to ESRD based on ethnicity and age at presentation in children with proteinuria with or without nephrotic syndrome. Proteinuria without systemic disease or acute glomerulonephritis was the presenting feature in 17% (236/1,403) of children in the renal patient database of Texas Children's Hospital, Baylor College of Medicine. Histopathological diagnoses were established in 107 of 236 patients (45%). FSGS was identified in 65 patients, accounting for 28% of all patients with proteinuria and 61% of patients who underwent renal biopsy. FSGS was more prevalent in AA (45%) than in non-AA patients (22%) (P=0.001), and AA patients with FSGS were older at presentation (12.7+/-4.4 years) than non-AA patients (5.6+/-4.6 years) (P<0.001). Among patients who underwent renal biopsy, increasing age at presentation increased the probability of having FSGS in AA but not non-AA patients (P=0.04). Five-year actuarial renal survival of FSGS was worse in AA (8%) than in non-AA patients (31%) (P=0.01). These data suggest an increased risk and worse outcome of FSGS in AA compared with non-AA children.  相似文献

Recombinant human granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF; filgrastim) shortens the time to neutrophil recovery after intensive chemotherapy, but its role in the treatment of adults with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is uncertain. We randomly assigned 198 adults with untreated ALL (median age, 35 years; range, 16 to 83) to receive either placebo or G-CSF (5 microgram/kg/d) subcutaneously, beginning 4 days after starting intensive remission induction chemotherapy and continuing until the neutrophil count was >/=1, 000/microL for 2 days. The study assignment was unblinded as individual patients achieved a complete remission (CR). Patients initially assigned to G-CSF then continued to receive G-CSF through 2 monthly courses of consolidation therapy. Patients assigned to placebo received no further study drug. The median time to recover neutrophils >/=1,000/microL during the remission induction course was 16 days (interquartile range [IQR], 15 to 18 days) for the patients assigned to receive G-CSF and 22 days (IQR, 19 to 29 days) for the patients assigned to placebo (P < .001). Patients in the G-CSF group had significantly shorter durations of neutropenia (<1, 000/microL) and thrombocytopenia (<50,000/microL) and fewer days in the hospital (median, 22 days v 28 days; P = .02) compared with patients receiving placebo. The patients assigned to receive G-CSF had a higher CR rate and fewer deaths during remission induction than did those receiving placebo (P = .04 by the chi-square test for trend). During Courses IIA and IIB of consolidation treatment, patients in the G-CSF group had significantly more rapid recovery of neutrophils >/=1,000/microL than did the control group by approximately 6 to 9 days. However, the patients in the G-CSF group did not complete the planned first 3 months of chemotherapy any more rapidly than did the patients in the placebo group. Overall toxicity was not lessened by the use of G-CSF. After a median follow-up of 4. 7 years, there were no significant differences in either the disease-free survival (P = .53) or the overall survival (P = .25) for the patients assigned to G-CSF (medians, 2.3 years and 2.4 years, respectively) compared with those assigned to placebo (medians, 1.7 and 1.8 years, respectively). Adults who received intensive chemotherapy for ALL benefited from G-CSF treatment, but its use did not markedly affect the ultimate outcome.  相似文献

General equilibrium moels are usually represented as a system of levels equations (e.g., in North America) or a system of linearized equations (e.g., in Australia). Either representation can be used to obtain accurate solutions. General-purpose software is available in both cases-GAMS or MPS/GE is typically used by levels modellers and GEMPACK by linearizers. Some equations (notably accounting identities) are naturally expressed in the levels while others (especially behavioural equations) are naturally expressed in a linearized form. This paper describes the new GEMPACK facility for solving models represented as a mixture of levels and linearized equations and discusses the advantages to modellers of using such a representation.  相似文献

Many flow visualization techniques, especially integration-based methods, are problematic when the measured data exhibit noise and discretization issues. Particularly, this is the case for flow-sensitive phase-contrast magnetic resonance imaging (PC-MRI) data sets which not only record anatomic information, but also time-varying flow information. We propose a novel approach for the visualization of such data sets using integration-based methods. Our ideas are based upon finite-time Lyapunov exponents (FTLE) and enable identification of vessel boundaries in the data as high regions of separation. This allows us to correctly restrict integration-based visualization to blood vessels. We validate our technique by comparing our approach to existing anatomy-based methods as well as addressing the benefits and limitations of using FTLE to restrict flow. We also discuss the importance of parameters, i.e., advection length and data resolution, in establishing a well-defined vessel boundary. We extract appropriate flow lines and surfaces that enable the visualization of blood flow within the vessels. We further enhance the visualization by analyzing flow behavior in the seeded region and generating simplified depictions.  相似文献

The influence of stacking fault energy on microvoid coalescence in pure materials has been studied. It was shown that as a material's stacking fault energy (SFE) decreased, the extent of microvoid coalescence that occurred during ductile fracture also decreased. The decrease of microvoid coalescence in low SFE materials was attributed to a hindrance in the development of dislocation cells associated with the restricted motion of dislocations. In pure materials, microvoids are believed to initiate and grow along dislocation cell walls formed during deformation. As such, the absence or scarcity of cells in lower SFE materials limits the formation of these voids during ductile fracture.  相似文献
