Violation of utility theory in unique and repeated gambles.

This article is concerned with a recent debate on the generality of utility theory. It has been argued by Lopes (1981) that decisions regarding preferences between gambles are different for unique and repeated gambles. The present article provides empirical support for the need to distinguish between these two. It is proposed that violations of utility theory obtained under unique conditions (e.g., Kahneman & Tversky, 1979), cannot necessarily be generalized to repeated conditions. Nonlinear viscoelastic response in two dimensions—numerical modeling and experimental verification

Recently we developed a nonlinear viscoelastic constitutive model which called the Phases Model (PHM) [10]. The main advantages of the PHM over existing nonlinear viscoelastic models are that it lends itself to simple, straightforward calibration of the material functions, and that it is naturally suitable to step-by-step computer simulation. In this paper we apply the PHM to two dimensional (2-D) situations. To this end, we've developed a 2-D finite difference code in cylindrical geometry which is based on the PHM. We demonstrate the validity of our modeling by applying the code to a 2-D set-up developed for this purpose. The 2-D specimen is in the form of a disc of the test material compressed between two rigid metal anvils by a velocity-controlled Instron machine. We monitor the response of the viscoelastic disc in terms of the overall axial force history, and the axial stress component at the disc center. We get good agreement between theory and experiment.     

风力机叶片制造误差对功率和推力影响的量化研究

为量化叶片制造误差对风力机功率和推力的影响,以NREL Phase VI S809风力机叶轮为研究对象,基于区间分析法和修正叶素动量理论,建立风力机不确定气动响应模型,量化弦长扭角制造误差对功率和推力影响的相对波动幅度,采用极差分析法进行敏感性分析,获得不确定影响敏感位置。结果表明,叶片扭角误差对性能影响更为显著;当弦长误差和扭角误差为±0.02c和±0.6°时,功率和推力最大相对波动达到3.26%和8.09%;弦长误差影响敏感位置为叶根,而扭角误差敏感位置为叶尖,可在此部位施加质量参数要求以控制性能偏差。

Effect of hydroxyl ions on chloride penetration depth measurement using the colorimetric method

In this paper, the effect of hydroxyl ions on chloride penetration depth measurement using the colorimetric method was studied. Equivalent silver nitrate solution (i.e. Ag⁺ = Cl⁻) was added to the NaCl + NaOH solution with different concentrations, then the amount of precipitated silver chloride and silver oxide were determined by chemical methods, and the color of the precipitated products was examined. Results show that the amount of silver chloride formed decreases linearly as OH⁻ to Cl⁻ ratio (r) increases. Thus, the chloride concentration at color change boundary changes with the pH value of the concrete. AgCl has a white color, while Ag₂O has a dark brown color. When the value of r exceeds 4, the color of the mixture looks brown, and color change boundary cannot be easily distinguished.
