A poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET)/montmorillonite clay nanocomposite was synthesized via in situ polymerization. Microscopic studies revealed that in an isothermal crystallization process, some crystallites in the nanocomposite initially were rod‐shaped and later exhibited three‐dimensional growth. The crystallites in the nanocomposite were irregularly shaped, rather than spherulitic, being interlocked together without clear boundaries, and they were much smaller than those of neat PET. With Avrami analysis, the isothermal crystallization kinetic parameters (the Avrami exponent and constant) were obtained. The rate constants for the nanocomposite demonstrated that clay could greatly increase the crystallization rate of PET. The results for the Avrami exponent were consistent with the observation of the rodlike crystallites in the PET/clay nanocomposite during the initial stage. Wide‐angle X‐ray scattering and Fourier transform infrared studies showed that, in comparison with neat PET, the crystal lattice parameters and crystallinity of the nanocomposite did not change significantly, whereas more defects may have been present in the crystalline regions of the nanocomposite because of the presence of the clay. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Abstract

Current generation of hypertext systems suffer from the limitations that they are static in nature, and they do not support the automated process of link creation very well. Because of the efforts involved in manually creating links, the hyperbases created using these systems are seldom modified even when they were found not to fully support the requirements of the intended users. This paper studies the development of automated tools to aid in the process of link creation, browsing, and link refinement. Only relation links are considered in this study. The automated tools are developed to help in three of the major stages of developing and using hypertext applications: (a) during authoring to generate a set of relation links between pairs of nodes; (b) during browsing to recommend an optimal set of starting nodes for the users to begin browsing, and to guide the users at each stage of browsing by suggesting a set of “next” nodes to traverse; and, (c) during training to modify, remove and add links based on users' feedback data collected. The training will result in long-term changes in the hypertext structure.

In order to test the effectiveness of the training process objectively, a navigator is built to simulate the browsing activities of the users. The effects of training have been evaluated on two text collections using a variety of objective measures. The results indicate that the training process has improved the effectiveness of the hyperbase to support browsing.  相似文献

Successful gradient-based sequential approximate optimization (SAO) algorithms in simulation-based optimization typically use convex separable approximations. Convex approximations may however not be very efficient if the true objective function and/or the constraints are concave. Using diagonal quadratic approximations, we show that non-convex approximations may indeed require significantly fewer iterations than their convex counterparts. The nonconvex subproblems are solved using an augmented Lagrangian (AL) strategy, rather than the Falk-dual, which is the norm in SAO based on convex subproblems. The results suggest that transformation of large-scale optimization problems with only a few constraints to a dual form via convexification need sometimes not be required, since this may equally well be done using an AL formulation.  相似文献

The design of multifunctional drug delivery systems capable of simultaneous target detection, imaging, and therapeutics in live mammalian cells is critical for biomedical research. In this study, by using mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) chemically modified with a small‐molecule dark quencher, followed by sequential drug encapsulation, MSN capping with a dye‐labeled antisense oligonucleotide, and bioorthogonal surface modification with cell‐penetrating poly(disulfide)s, the authors have successfully developed the first mesoporous silica nanoquencher (qMSN), characterized by high drug‐loading and endocytosis‐independent cell uptake, which is able to quantitatively image endogenous survivin mRNA and release the loaded drug in a manner that depends on the survivin expression level in tumor cells. The authors further show that this novel drug delivery system may be used to minimize potential cytotoxicity encountered by many existing small‐molecule drugs in cancer therapy.  相似文献

This paper proposes a new method based on the discrete cosine transform (DCT), named as the DCT-based method, to detect oscillations for a single time series. The main idea is to isolate different frequency components of the time series via the DCT, and to detect oscillations by checking the regularity of zero-crossings of these isolated components. This method has the following features: (i) usage of only time series information of process variables without additional process knowledge, (ii) ability to deal with slowly varying trends, (iii) robustness to both white and colored noises, (iv) capability to handle the presence of multiple oscillations, and (v) amenability to complete automation without human intervention. Simulation examples and industrial case studies are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness and the above features of the DCT-based method.  相似文献

The core nodes in an optical burst switching (OBS) network are normally equipped with wavelength converters (WCs) to reduce the burst loss probability. Since WCs are expensive and still immature technologically, it is desirable to reduce the number of WCs in the network and to have partial wavelength conversion capability at the core nodes. Nevertheless, a majority of algorithms in the literature are proposed under the full wavelength conversion assumption. As a result, they do not consider the burst loss caused by insufficient WCs, i.e., bursts dropped due to the unavailability of free WCs to convert them to unused wavelengths. In this paper, we demonstrate how to use burst rescheduling to decrease the burst loss due to insufficient WCs and hence cut down on the overall burst loss probability in OBS networks. Two burst rescheduling algorithms are proposed. Their effectiveness in reducing the overall burst loss probability is verified through simulation experiments.  相似文献
