Two series of polypropylenes with different molecular weight distribution and tacticity characteristics were injection molded into flexural test specimens by varying cylinder temperature and the effects of the molecular weight distribution and tacticity on the structure and properties of the moldings were studied. Measured propertied were flexural modulus, flexural strength, heat distortion temperature, Izod impact strength, and mold shrinkage and structures studied were crystallinity, the thickness of skin layer, a*‐axis‐oriented component fraction and crystalline orientation functions. The relations between the structures and properties were also studied. It was found that the molecular weight distribution and tacticity characteristics affect the properties mainly through the molecular orientation and crystallinity, respectively. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Understanding the driving forces that generate emerging topics (ETs or Emerging Research Topics) will assist in the sound development of science and technologies. In the present study, we aim to clarify the researcher dynamics of generating and developing ETs in life sciences and medicine over the past half-century by analyzing the pre-, contemporary-, and post-participation of researchers publishing articles containing the emerging keywords that are elements of ETs. Our results suggest that, while manpower needs for publication have increased, less manpower is actually required to generate ETs these days and that pre-participation in certain research topics has become important to generate regular ETs but not Nobel Prize-class ones. Finally, we discovered that, in this post-genomic era, those researchers who generate ETs also continue to focus on those fields. These trends illustrate a mode shift in the scientific practice of researchers that have generated and developed ETs over the last 50 years as well as highlight the significance of funding projects with high probabilities of generating high-impact ETs.

Copper-based superconducting alloys including finely dispersed f c c lead or h c p (Pb- Bi) particles in f c c copper matrix have been obtained by rapid quenching (Cu-M)100-x Pbx and (Cu-M)100-x (Pb0.6Bi0.4 x (M = aluminium, silicon or tin;x < 10 at%) alloys containing immiscible elements such as lead and bismuth. The particle size and interparticle distance were about 30 to 130 nm and 20 to 200 nm for had particles and about 30 to 60 nm and 30 to 150 nm for (Pb- Bi) particles. The transition temperature,T c, was in the range of 3.2 to 5.5 K for the Cu-M-Pb alloys and 6.2 to 6.3 K for the Cu-M-Pb-Bi alloys. Critical magnetic field,H c2, and critical current density,J c, for the later alloys were 0.47 to 0.93T at 4.2 K and 1.1 × 105 to 2.7 × 105 Am–2 at zero applied field and 4.21 K. The mechanism of the appearance of such a soft-type superconductivity for the rapidly quenched copper-based alloys was discussed, and inferred to be due to the formation of a percolation path of a superconducting lead or Pb-Bi phase along the grain boundaries, sub-boundaries and/or tangled dislocations where the lead or Pb-Bi phase precipitated preferentially, rather than the proximity effect based on lead or Pb-Bi particles.  相似文献

Decomposition of t-butylhydroperoxide was retarded by triazine thiols and their zinc salts, but accelerated by the copper salts of triazine thiols as well as sulfur compounds such as dithiocarbamates and mercaptobenzothiazolates. Triazine thiols and their zine salts are effective antioxidants for polyethylene crosslinked with peroxide and containing copper, and for protecting epichlorohydrin vulcanizates against attack by “sour” or hydroperoxide-containing gasoline.  相似文献

The evaporation drain of sulfite pulp spent liquor contains few volatile fatty acids, most of which is acetic acid. The main objective of this study is to recover acetic acid as the concentrated solution (about 4%), which could be used as a culture medium of the yeast. As acetic acid can easily pass through the cellulose acetate membrane, SP drains neutralized by NaOH, NH4OH and Ca(OH)2 were used as the feed solutions. In all cases, concentration by reverse osmosis was successfully carried out provided the appropriate pretreatment was employed. The recovery of acetic acid was 95.6, 90.5 and 98.2% for Na-, NH4-, and Ca-drain, respectively. In addition, the recovered (permeated) water may be used as an industrial one.  相似文献

In an attempt to improve the guidelines for concurrent management of concomitant abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) and symptomatic malignancy, a retrospective study was undertaken. A total of 186 AAA repairs were performed electively, and 25 patients (13.4%) had concurrent symptomatic malignancy from April 1986 to March 1997. Fourteen patients underwent a one-stage operation, including five abdominoperineal rectal resections, four subtotal gastrectomies, three total gastrectomies, and two right hemicolectomies. Eleven others underwent a two-stage operation, including four with total gastrectomy and left hemicolectomy followed by AAA repair, as well as two with right hemicolectomy and one with left hemicolectomy prior to AAA repair. There were no operative deaths or severe postoperative complications. Of the 25 patients, 22 (88.0%) are still alive during follow-up ranging from 8 months to 11 years. Our surgical approach to both lesions is as follows: (1) Using the transperitoneal approach alone, subtotal gastrectomy and abdominoperineal rectal resection can be safely done simultaneously. (2) Although total gastrectomy can also be performed concurrently, the approach used for each lesion is separate. (3) Colorectal resection is generally done separately. However, a one-stage operation can be performed using the thromboexclusion procedure for AAA repair in patients with right-sided colonic cancer or a temporary transverse colostomy for left-sided colorectal cancer.  相似文献

Sixty-one patients who were diagnosed with mucosal gastric cancer have been successfully treated with two laparoscopic techniques at our institute from March 1992 to March 1997. One is laparoscopic wedge resection of the stomach using a lesion-lifting method for lesions of the anterior wall, the lesser curvature, and the greater curvature of the stomach. The other is laparoscopic intragastric mucosal resection for lesions of the posterior wall of the stomach and near the cardia or the pylorus. Indications are as follows: (1) preoperatively diagnosed mucosal cancer; (2) <25 mm diameter elevated lesions; and (3) <15 mm diameter depressed lesions without ulcer formation. Patients were discharged in 4 to 8 days uneventfully. There was no major complication or mortality. The resected specimens had sufficient surgical margins horizontally (16 +/- 5 and 8 +/- 4 mm, respectively) and vertically. In one patient histologic examination revealed slight tumor infiltration into the submucosal layer with lymphatic invasion. He underwent gastrectomy with lymph node dissection 1 month after surgery. Otherwise, histologic examination revealed curative surgery. All patients in the series have survived during the 4- to 65-month follow-up period. There have been two recurrences in the series, both of which were found near the staple line 2 years after the initial surgery and were still mucosal lesions. They were successfully treated by open gastrectomy and laser irradiation. A separate early gastric cancer was found 2 years after the initial surgery in one patient, who then underwent curative open gastrectomy. In conclusion, if the patients are selected properly, these laparoscopic procedures are curative, minimally invasive treatment for early gastric cancer.  相似文献

Recent studies have shown that various tumor cells accumulate ubiquitin (Ub)-conjugated proteins, the profiles of which differ from those of normal cells. To identify the Ub-conjugated proteins accumulated specifically by human carcinoma cells, a two-dimensional immunoblot analysis of 31 surgically resected human primary colorectal carcinoma tissues was performed using an anti-Ub monoclonal antibody, KM691. Two distinct Mr 42,000 and 45,000 proteins in the Triton X-insoluble fractions of carcinoma tissues reacted with this antibody, whereas only one Mr 45,000 protein reacted in normal tissues. The Mr 42,000 Ub-conjugated proteins were specific to carcinoma tissues from 25 patients (80.6%). One of the purified Mr 42,000 proteins was digested with Achromobacter protease I. This protein was identified as a cytokeratin 8 (CK 8) fragment based on both molecular mass determination and molecular mass searching of Achromobacter protease I-digested fragments of proteins registered in a protein sequence data base. Two-dimensional immunoblot analysis with an anti-CK 8 antibody confirmed that all of the Mr 42,000 proteins were CK 8 degradation products. These results demonstrate that human colorectal carcinomas specifically accumulate Mr 42,000 Ub-conjugated CK 8 fragments. This accumulation was observed frequently not only in advanced (18/22, 81.8%), but also in early stage cases (7/9, 77.8%), suggesting that it occurs even in the early stages of colorectal carcinoma progression.  相似文献

We have established long-term dendritic cell lines from the epidermis of newborn mice. These cell lines (XS series) proliferate maximally in response to granulocyte/macrophage-colony stimulating factor, as well as to CSF-1, which is produced by skin-derived NS fibroblast lines and by keratinocytes (albeit in smaller amounts). The purpose of this study was to examine the impact of UVB radiation on CSF-1-mediated interaction of dendritic cells with fibroblasts and keratinocytes. Exposure of NS cells to UVB radiation (unfiltered FS20 sunlamp) decreased CSF-1 production at mRNA and protein levels. Both changes occurred in a dose-dependent fashion, with 50 J/m2 causing a significant reduction. UVB radiation also downregulated CSF-1 mRNA expression by Pam 212 keratinocytes. UVB exposure of XS cells diminished the surface expression of CSF-1 receptors, with 50 J/m2 causing a significant reduction. Thus, UVB radiation interrupts CSF-1-mediated cell-cell interaction by a dual mechanism: downregulating CSF-1 production and abrogating CSF-1 receptor expression. Importantly, granulocyte/macrophage-colony stimulating factor receptor expression by XS cells was also inhibited by UVB radiation, once again, with 50 J/m2 producing significant inhibition. We propose that the resulting CSF-1 deficiency in epidermal microenvironment and unresponsiveness by dendritic cells to relevant growth factors may contribute to UVB-mediated loss of resident epidermal dendritic cells (i.e., Langerhans cells) in skin.  相似文献

Engineering liver tissue constructs with sufficient cell mass for transplantation implies culturing large numbers of hepatocytes in a reduced volume; however, providing sufficient oxygen to dense cell cultures is still not feasible using only conventional culture medium. Liposome-encapsulated hemoglobin (LEH), an oxygen-carrying blood substitute originally designed for short-term perfusion, may be a good candidate as an oxygen carrier to cultured liver cells. In this study, we investigated the feasibility of maintaining long term hepatocyte cultures using LEH. Primary fetal and adult rat liver cells were directly exposed to LEH for 6 to 14 days in static culture or in a perfused flat plate bioreactor. The functions and viability of adult rat hepatocytes exposed to LEH were not adversely affected in static monolayer culture and were even improved in the bioreactor. However, some cytotoxicity of LEH was observed with fetal rat liver cells after 4 days of culture. LEH, though a suitable oxygen carrier for long-term culture of mature hepatocytes, is not suitable in its present form for perfusing fetal hepatocyte cultures in direct contact with the liposomes; either the LEH will have to be made less toxic or a more sophisticated bioreactor that prevents the direct contact between hepatocytes and perfusates will have to be designed if fetal cells are to be used for liver tissue engineering.  相似文献
