The mechanical properties of Nylon 6,6 blended with recycled scrap material, polyvinyl butyral (PVB), using maleated styrene-ethylene-butylene-styrene block copolymer (SEBS-g-MA) as a compatibilizer are discussed. Control samples of Nylon 6,6/PVB blends and Nylon 6,6/SEBS-g-MA blends were also compared. The results show Nylon 6,6/PVB blends give higher tensile strength than Nylon 6,6/SEBS-g-MA blends. As for Nylon 6,6/SEBS-g-MA/PVB blends, impact strength increases with increasing the dosage of SEBS-g-MA. PVB improves flexural and tensile properties but sacrifices impact strength of the blends. Meanwhile, the ductile-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) increases with increasing PVB content. Through morphology observation, hole sizes are smaller with increasing SEBS-g-MA content. In summary, suitable amounts of PVB scrap are vital to balance both rigidity and toughness of blends. This study helps to understand the role of PVB in Nylon 6,6 blend systems, which allows PVB to find a practical application based on economic and environmental concerns. 相似文献

Silicone hydrogels have been under intensive investigation for use in the biomedical field, especially as contact lenses. When silicone hydrogels were prepared using a combination of N-vinyl pyrrolidone and N,N-dimethyl acrylamide as the hydrophilic monomers, it was found that the surface wettability of these hydrogels can be improved with the mechanical properties and that water contents are in the acceptable range for certain applications, such as contact lenses. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. 相似文献

In the recent decade, the importance of DNA damage repair (DDR) and its clinical application have been firmly recognized in prostate cancer (PC). For example, olaparib was just approved in May 2020 to treat metastatic castration-resistant PC with homologous recombination repair-mutated genes; however, not all patients can benefit from olaparib, and the treatment response depends on patient-specific mutations. This highlights the need to understand the detailed DDR biology further and develop DDR-based biomarkers. In this study, we establish a four-gene panel of which the expression is significantly associated with overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS) in PC patients from the TCGA-PRAD database. This panel includes DNTT, EXO1, NEIL3, and EME2 genes. Patients with higher expression of the four identified genes have significantly worse OS and PFS. This significance also exists in a multivariate Cox regression model adjusting for age, PSA, TNM stages, and Gleason scores. Moreover, the expression of the four-gene panel is highly correlated with aggressiveness based on well-known PAM50 and PCS subtyping classifiers. Using publicly available databases, we successfully validate the four-gene panel as having the potential to serve as a prognostic and predictive biomarker for PC specifically based on DDR biology. 相似文献

Copper (Cu)-toxic effects on Citrus grandis growth and Cu uptake, as well as gene expression and physiological parameters in leaves were investigated. Using RNA-Seq, 715 upregulated and 573 downregulated genes were identified in leaves of C. grandis seedlings exposed to Cu-toxicity (LCGSEC). Cu-toxicity altered the expression of 52 genes related to cell wall metabolism, thus impairing cell wall metabolism and lowering leaf growth. Cu-toxicity downregulated the expression of photosynthetic electron transport-related genes, thus reducing CO2 assimilation. Some genes involved in thermal energy dissipation, photorespiration, reactive oxygen species scavenging and cell redox homeostasis and some antioxidants (reduced glutathione, phytochelatins, metallothioneins, l-tryptophan and total phenolics) were upregulated in LCGSEC, but they could not protect LCGSEC from oxidative damage. Several adaptive responses might occur in LCGSEC. LCGSEC displayed both enhanced capacities to maintain homeostasis of Cu via reducing Cu uptake by leaves and preventing release of vacuolar Cu into the cytoplasm, and to improve internal detoxification of Cu by accumulating Cu chelators (lignin, reduced glutathione, phytochelatins, metallothioneins, l-tryptophan and total phenolics). The capacities to maintain both energy homeostasis and Ca homeostasis might be upregulated in LCGSEC. Cu-toxicity increased abscisates (auxins) level, thus stimulating stomatal closure and lowering water loss (enhancing water use efficiency and photosynthesis). 相似文献
