Potentiometric properties of the PVC membrane-based electrodes prepared with molecular tweezer-type neutral carriers, 3,12-bis(TFAB)CA and deoxy-3,12-bis(TFAB)CA, and trifluoroacetyl-p-decylbenzene (TFADB) were measured in buffered electrolytes (0.1 M Tris-H2SO4, pH 8.6 and 8.0) and artificial seawater. It was observed that the deoxy-3,12-bis(TFAB)CA-based electrode provides greatly enhanced carbonate selectivity over chloride (log K(CO3(2-), Cl-)POT approximately -6) and other minor anions present in seawater. Thus, we explored the possibility of applying this new carbonate-selective electrode for direct determination of oceanic carbon dioxide. The total carbon dioxide (TCO2) level in surface Yellow Sea water was determined with the deoxy-3,12-bis(TFAB)CA-based electrode, Severinghaus-type CO2 gas sensor, and the traditional potentiometric titration methods. The results showed that the carbonate-selective electrode provides accurate oceanic TCO2 determination comparable to that obtainable with the other two methods. The analytical procedure based on a carbonate-selective electrode is clearly advantageous over other conventional methods: it does not require any sample pretreatment and extra reagents other than the standard calibration solutions, while providing the measured results directly and immediately. 相似文献

Background: Fullerenes and metallofullerenes can be considered promising nanopharmaceuticals themselves and as a basis for chemical modification. As reactive oxygen species homeostasis plays a vital role in cells, the study of their effect on genes involved in oxidative stress and anti-inflammatory responses are of particular importance. Methods: Human fetal lung fibroblasts were incubated with aqueous dispersions of C60, C70, and Gd@C82 in concentrations of 5 nM and 1.5 µM for 1, 3, 24, and 72 h. Cell viability, intracellular ROS, NOX4, NFκB, PRAR-γ, NRF2, heme oxygenase 1, and NAD(P)H quinone dehydrogenase 1 expression have been studied. Results & conclusion: The aqueous dispersions of C60, C70, and Gd@C82 fullerenes are active participants in reactive oxygen species (ROS) homeostasis. Low and high concentrations of aqueous fullerene dispersions (AFD) have similar effects. C70 was the most inert substance, C60 was the most active substance. All AFDs have both “prooxidant” and “antioxidant” effects but with a different balance. Gd@C82 was a substance with more pronounced antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, while C70 had more pronounced “prooxidant” properties. 相似文献

Nuclear pore complexes regulate the selective exchange of RNA and proteins across the nuclear envelope in eukaryotic cells. Biomimetic strategies offer new opportunities to investigate this remarkable transport phenomenon. Here, we show selective transport of proteins across individual biomimetic nuclear pore complexes at the single-molecule level. Each biomimetic complex is constructed by covalently tethering either Nup98 or Nup153 (phenylalanine-glycine (FG) nucleoporins) to a solid-state nanopore. Individual translocation events are monitored using ionic current measurements with sub-millisecond temporal resolution. Transport receptors (Impβ) proceed with a dwell time of ~2.5 ms for both Nup98- and Nup153-coated pores, whereas the passage of non-specific proteins is strongly inhibited with different degrees of selectivity. For pores up to ~25 nm in diameter, Nups form a dense and low-conducting barrier, whereas they adopt a more open structure in larger pores. Our biomimetic nuclear pore complex provides a quantitative platform for studying nucleocytoplasmic transport phenomena at the single-molecule level in vitro. 相似文献

Two photon polymerisation using direct laser writing is a burgeoning field of research, with recent focus being placed on bringing added value to microstructures, by incorporating soft, responsive polymers. Moving to the micron-scale can have a profound impact on such stimuli-responsive materials, whose speed of actuation can be increased many-fold compared to their mm-scale counterparts. Here, the fabrication of submicron 2D photonic structures, based on a vapor-responsive photoresist with a refractive index <1.55, in the visible wavelength range. The fabricated concentric spiral arrays are evaluated for their feasibility as vapor sensors by testing spectral and structural color reproducibility and reversibility under water, ethanol, isopropanol, and acetone vapors. This approach allows for the realization of predictable uniform color displays that can be modulated upon stimuli response. The transmitted colour in the dry and hydrated states can be accurately modelled. This knowledge is used to design and demonstrate structures for cloaking and image transformation. In the copper metallurgy workplace air is polluted with condensation aerosols, which a significant fraction of is presented by copper oxide particles <100 nm. In the scientific literature, there is a lack of their in vivo toxicity characterization and virtually no attempts of enhancing organism’s resistance to their impact. A stable suspension of copper oxide particles with mean (±SD) diameter 20 ± 10 nm was prepared by laser ablation of pure copper in water. It was being injected intraperitoneally to rats at a dose of 10 mg/kg (0.5 mg per mL of deionized water) three times a week up to 19 injections. In parallel, another group of rats was so injected with the same suspension against the background of oral administration of a “bio-protective complex” (BPC) comprising pectin, a multivitamin-multimineral preparation, some amino acids and fish oil rich in ω-3 PUFA. After the termination of injections, many functional and biochemical indices for the organism’s status, as well as pathological changes of liver, spleen, kidneys, and brain microscopic structure were evaluated for signs of toxicity. In the same organs we have measured accumulation of copper while their cells were used for performing the Random Amplification of Polymorphic DNA (RAPD) test for DNA fragmentation. The same features were assessed in control rats infected intraperitoneally with water with or without administration of the BPC. The copper oxide nanoparticles proved adversely bio-active in all respects considered in this study, their active in vivo solubilization in biological fluids playing presumably an important role in both toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics. The BPC proposed and tested by us attenuated systemic and target organs toxicity, as well as genotoxicity of this substance. Judging by experimental data obtained in this investigation, occupational exposures to nano-scale copper oxide particles can present a significant health risk while the further search for its management with the help of innocuous bioprotectors seems to be justified. 相似文献

1H NMR spectroscopy was used to investigate temperature-induced phase transitions in D2O solutions of poly(N-isopropylmethacrylamide) (PIPMAm)/poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PIPAAm) mixtures and P(IPMAm/IPAAm) random copolymers of various composition on molecular level. While two phase transitions were detected for PIPMAm/PIPAAm mixtures, only single phase transition was found for P(IPMAm/IPAAm) copolymers. The phase transition temperatures of PIPAAm component (appears at lower temperatures) are not affected by the presence of PIPMAm in the mixtures; on the other hand, the temperatures of the phase transition of PIPMAm component (appears at higher temperatures) are affected by the phase separation of the PIPAAm component and depend on concentration of the solution. For P(IPMAm/IPAAm) random copolymers, a departure from the linear dependence of the transition temperatures on the copolymer composition was found for a sample with 75 mol% of IPMAm monomeric units. 相似文献

In several Russian northern lakes and rivers, Arctic cisco Coregonus autumnalis, least cisco C. sardinella, peled C. peled, tugun C. tugun, broad whitefish C. nasus, whitefish C. lavaretus and vendace C. albula were sampled in periods of officially permitted commercial fishery. Special attention was paid to contents (mg g?1 of wet weight) of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in muscle tissues (filets), which are essential for human nutrition. The highest values of EPA + DHA content in semi‐anadromous fish and freshwater fish were recorded for C. autumnalis from the Yenisei River, 17.60 mg g?1 wet weight, and for C. lavaretus from the Sobachye Lake, 16.61 mg g?1 wet weight, respectively. Intra‐genus variations of EPA + DHA contents of Coregonus species were from 1.87 to 17.60 mg g?1 wet weight. Since the congeneric species were genetically close to each other, the variations in EPA and DHA contents were thought to be caused primarily by ecological factors: migrational capability, type of feeding and trophic status of aquatic ecosystems. In general, the majority of studied species appeared to be of a high nutritive value for humans, although unfavorable environmental conditions could considerably diminish this value. 相似文献
