Current cardiac implantable devices (IDs) are equipped with a set of sensors that can provide useful information to improve patient follow-up and prevent health deterioration in the postoperative period. In this paper, data obtained from an ID with two such sensors (a transthoracic impedance sensor and an accelerometer) are analyzed in order to evaluate their potential application for the follow-up of patients treated with a cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT). A methodology combining spatiotemporal fuzzy coding and multiple correspondence analysis (MCA) is applied in order to: 1) reduce the dimensionality of the data and provide new synthetic indexes based on the "factorial axes" obtained from MCA; 2) interpret these factorial axes in physiological terms; and 3) analyze the evolution of the patient's status by projecting the acquired data into the plane formed by the first two factorial axes named "factorial plane." In order to classify the different evolution patterns, a new similarity measure is proposed and validated on the simulated datasets, and then, used to cluster observed data from 41 CRT patients. The obtained clusters are compared with the annotations on each patient's medical record. Two areas on the factorial plane are identified, one being correlated with a health degradation of patients and the other with a stable clinical state. 相似文献

Paf is a phospholipid mediator present in human skin which induces inflammatory events such as neutrophil infiltration and
increased vascular permeability. Recent data suggest that cutaneous cells, such as fibroblasts and keratinocytes, produce
paf and that paf is released during allergic cutaneous reactions. It is tempting to speculate that paf may contribute to the
development of various skin disorders with acute and chronic skin inflammation. Paf antagonists may help in bringing answers
to this hypothesis and may offer new prospects for the treatment of cutaneous inflammatory diseases.

In order to improve the permanence of the plasticizer in a poly(vinylchloride) (PVC) compound we have studied the free radical polymerization and grafting of decyl methacrylate (DMA) onto PVC in the presence of a lead stabilizer. The influence of different parameters has been investigated and homogeneous PVC-g-PDMA copolymers have been obtained. This study was designed to measure the effect of dietary n−3 fatty acids (FA) on platelets and blood lipids. Healthy men (n=9),
ages 31 to 65, were fed diets in which salmon was the source of n−3 fatty acids. They were confined in a nutrition suite at
this Center for 100 days. Food intake and exercise levels were rigidly controlled. Initially they were placed on a stabilization
diet for 20 days, then six men were fed the salmon diet for 40 days. The others remained on the stabilization diet. The two
groups switched diets for the last 40 days of the study. Both diets were isocaloric [16% protein, 54% carbohydrate, and 30%
fat by energy-% (En%)]. The salmon diet contained 7.5% of calories from n−6 FA and 2% from n−3 FA, primarily eicosapentaenoic
acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in a 40∶60 ratio, while the stabilization diet contained 7.5% of calories from n−6
FA and less than 0.3% n−3 FA, mainly 18∶3n−3. The bleeding time was unaffected by the diets in this study. The prothrombin
time was shortened (11.6 sec.vs. 12.6 sec., p<0.01) for the subjects consuming the salmon diet as compared to that measured after 20 days of the stabilization
diet. Mean platelet volume increased significantly during the period in which the volunteers consumed the salmon diet compared
to the baseline diet (p<0.01), while the mean platelet levels decreased. Platelet aggregation (PA) was measured in platelet
rich plasma before, during, and after the salmon diet using collagen, ADP, arachidonic acid (AA), and thrombin agonists. The
PA threshold for ADP was significantly increased for the subjects on the salmon diet (p<0.05). No change in the PA threshold
was detected for collagen or thrombin. The PA threshold for AA was unchanged also, but the platelets in subjects consuming
the salmon diet had a prolonged time to maximum aggregation (p<0.01) with this reagent compared to platelets from men on the
stabilization diet. Plasma, red cell, and platelet total FA composition was determined by capillary GLC. While the men consumed
the salmon diets, there were marked increases (3 to 10-fold) in the EPA and DHA levels in all blood components with concomitant
decreases in linoleic acid and AA levels. Thus, a salmon diet, high in n−3 FA, did not influence the bleeding times, but it
decreased the sensitivity of platelets to ADP and AA, increased the mean platelet size, decreased the platelet count, and
changed the FA composition of the plasma, RBC and platelet membrane lipids. 相似文献

The Bay of Vidy is the most contaminated area of Lake Geneva, Switzerland, as a result of the release of treated and untreated waste water from the municipal sewage treatment plant of the city of Lausanne and its surroundings. The reconstruction of the historical deposition of heavy metals in the sediment of the bay has been performed by the analysis of several dated (radiocaesium) sediment cores. The presence of sewage‐derived contaminants in the Bay of Vidy since the beginning of the sewage treatment plant's operations in 1964 is clearly observed, when a sharp increase in heavy metal contents is recorded, with maximum concentrations of cadmium, copper, zinc and lead occurring between the late 1960s and early 1970s. Despite considerable improvement in recent times, the present concentrations of the investigated heavy metals in sediments of the Bay of Vidy are still higher than concentrations measured at the centre of the lake, the latter close to Lake Geneva's natural background values. It is concluded that the quantity of heavy metals deposited in the bay is considerable and, because of sediment instability, will constitute a potential hazard for biota. 相似文献

We have determined the nucleotide sequence of the blaS gene encoding the carbapenem-hydrolyzing L-1 beta-lactamase from Stenotrophomonas maltophilia GN12873. Analysis of the DNA and deduced amino acid sequences identified a product of 290 amino acids. Comparisons of the L-1 amino acid sequence with those of other zinc beta-lactamases showed 88.6% identity with the L-1 enzyme from S. maltophilia IID1275 and less than 20% identity with other class B metalloenzymes. 相似文献

It is shown that the use of two sources in a four-port interferometer equipped with cube-corner mirrors leads to increased signal-to-noise ratios in Fourier transform (FT-IR) circular and linear dichroism spectra. The output beam to the sample is a superposition of two interferograms, one from each source, having opposite Fourier phases. These two interferograms cancel one another to the degree that the two sources are matched in intensity. If the radiation from each of the two sources is first polarized orthogonally with respect to the other and passed through a polarization modulator before reaching the sample, the resulting polarization-modulation interferograms are out of Fourier phase and out of polarization-modulation phase. As a result, the polarization-modulation interferograms, due to circular or linear dichroism in the sample, from the two sources combine positively rather than negatively. An improvement in signal-to-noise ratio of up to two (or a factor of four in scan-time reduction for the same signal-to-noise ratio) compared to single source operation can be realized, while at the same time, the potential for saturation of the detector signal is significantly reduced due to the reduction in magnitude of the combined ordinary infrared transmission interferogram. Virtually all models developed for transportation problems have focused upon the optimization of a single objective criterion, namely the minimization of total transportation costs. They have generally neglected or often ignored the multiple conflicting objectives involved in the problem, the priority structure of these objectives, various environmental constraints, unique organizational values of the firm, and bureaucratic decision structures. However, in reality these are important factors which greatly influence the decision process of transportation problems. This research examines the application of ultrasonic Rayleigh surface waves to the non-destructive evaluation (NDE) of asphaltic concrete in the frequency range 40–100 kHz. Two ultrasonic parameters, the phase velocity and amplitude attenuation, are considered to be sensitive to local compositional and structural variations and are measured. A wedge technique is used to generate Rayleigh surface waves in an asphaltic concrete beam with uniformly distributed aggregate, and this technique is shown to be effective in launching Rayleigh waves in this highly viscoelastic (absorptive) and heterogeneous medium. Three different ultrasonic detection setups using contact and non-contact transducers as receivers are examined and their results are compared. The experimental results show that the wedge generation technique along with an air-coupled receiving transducer with a finite-size aperture is the most reliable for characterizing Rayleigh waves in asphaltic concrete. It is also experimentally demonstrated that the proposed setup may be used to detect aggregate segregation in asphaltic concrete. 相似文献
