In Europe natural gas vehicles play a minor role. A decisive reason for this is the dependence of most European countries from gas imports. Except for Italy, there is no tradition to use natural gas as fuel. In addition, there is a lack of infrastructure (e.g. fuelling stations). In contrast to Europe, in Latin American and Asian countries natural gas vehicles are widespread. Some countries foster natural gas vehicles because they have own gas resources. Many countries must reduce the high air pollution in big cities. Environmental reasons are the main motive for the use of natural gas vehicles in Europe. In last years, high oil prices stimulated the use of natural gas as fuel. European governments have developed incentives (e.g. tax reductions) to foster natural gas vehicles. However, the focus is on hybrid technology and the electric car, which, however, need further technical improvement. In contrast, the use of natural gas in conventional engines is technically mature. Additional gas imports can be avoided by further improvements of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy. Sculptured thin films (STFs) are assemblies of nominally identical, parallel nanowires with tailored shapes such as chevrons and spirals. A series of iron(lll) STFs were produced with varied crystallinity (from hematite toferrihydrite) and nanowire shapes (slanted columnar, clockwise helical, and counterclockwise helical). When the dissimilatory metal-reducing bacterium Shewanella putrefaciens CN32 was used to measure their bioreducibility, it was found that bioreduction was controlled primarily by oxide crystallinity. STFs were characterized by scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and grazing incidence small-angle X-ray scattering. Postbioreduction characterizations determined that mineralogy of the film materials did not change, but surface roughness generally increased. Changes caused by bioreduction were assessed in terms of both transmittance and reflectance of light incident normal to the STFs. The greatest optical changes were obtained with crystalline hematite films. These results underscore the feasibility of an STF-based fiber optic iron(lll) reduction sensor for in situ subsurface deployment. 相似文献

A new diversity technique is proposed to combat Rayleigh fading in digital mobile radio systems transmitting speech signals. The speech signals are μ-law PCM encoded (mu = 255 , 8 kHz sampling, 8 bits/code word, 64 kbit/s data rate), and alternate data words are used to form two streams called "odd" and "even." The even stream is delayed by τ seconds and the streams are interleaved prior to radio transmission using two-level PSK modulation. At the receiver the odd data stream is delayed by τ and interleaved with the even stream. Consequently, if an error burst occurs, the effect of the reshuffling of the data stream is, in general, to place words with bit errors in juxtaposition to those correctly received. After μ-law PCM decoding of the words, a statistical error detection strategy is evoked to identify the erroneous samples. These samples are replaced by adjacent sample interpolation to give the recovered speech sequence. No recourse to channel protection coding is made. In our experiments a Rayleigh fading envelope was generated from a hardware simulator and stored in a computer, along with four sentences of speech. The system was then simulated and the recovered speech perceived. The objective performance measures were segmental SNR for the audio signal, and BER. Different error detection strategies were examined and restrictions on τ investigated. For a mobile speed of 30 mph, SNR values of 32, 21, and 16 dB were obtained for BER values of 0.1, 1, and 2 percent, corresponding to SNR gains over an uncorrected system of 3, 9, and 11 dB, respectively. 相似文献

There is an obvious effort to increase the burn up of used fuel assemblies in order to improve fuel utilization.A more effective operation can be realized by extending the fuel cycles or by increasing the number of reloadings.This change is nevertheless connected with increasing the uranium enrichment even above 5% of 235 U. Burnable absorbers are widely used to compensate for the positive reactivity of fresh fuel. With proper optimization, burnable absorbers decrease the reactivity excess at the beginning of the cycle, and they can help with stabilization of power distribution. This paper describes properties of several materials that can be used as burnable absorbers. The change in concentration or position of the pin with a burnable absorber in a fuel assembly was analyzed by the HELIOS transport lattice code. The multiplication factor and power peaking factor dependence on fuel burn up were used to evaluate the neutronic properties of burnable absorbers. The following four different materials are discussed in this paper: Gd_2O_3, IFBA, Er_2O_3,and Dy_2O_3.Gadolinium had the greatest influence on fuel characteristics. The number of pins with a burnable absorber was limited in the VVER-440 fuel assembly to six. In the VVER-1000 fuel assembly, 36 pins with a burnable absorber can be used as the assembly is larger. The erbium depletion rate was comparable with uranium burn up.Dysprosium had the largest parasitic absorption after depletion. 相似文献

Driven by the emergence of mobile and pervasive computing there is a growing demand for context‐aware software systems that can dynamically adapt to their run‐time environment. We present the results of project MADAM that has delivered a comprehensive solution for the development and operation of context‐aware, self‐adaptive applications. The main contributions of MADAM are (a) a sophisticated middleware that supports the dynamic adaptation of component‐based applications, and (b) an innovative model‐driven development methodology that is based on abstract adaptation models and corresponding model‐to‐code transformations. MADAM has demonstrated the viability of a general, integrated approach to application‐level adaptation. The optical properties and structure of a-C:H films were modified by addition of nitrogen into the CH4/H2 deposition mixture. Three films prepared in capacitively coupled rf discharge were compared: (a) hydrogenated diamond like carbon film with hydrogen content of 34% and indentation hardness of 21.7 GPa, (b) hard a-C:H:N film with nitrogen content of 13% and indentation hardness of 18.5 GPa and (c) soft a-C:H:N film with nitrogen content of 10% and indentation hardness of 6.7 GPa. It is shown how the parametrized density of states model describing dielectric response of electronic interband transitions can be applied to modified a-C:H:N and how it can be combined with correct treatment of transmittance measured in infrared range using additional Gaussian peaks in joint density of phonon states. This analysis resulted in determination of film dielectric function in wide spectral range (0.045-30 eV) and provided also information about the density of states of valence and conduction bands and lattice vibrations. 相似文献
