How Good is Tapped Delay Line Simulation?

Some calculations are presented for a uniformly spaced time-invariant tapped delay line simulation of a two-path propagation model using white noise and pseudonoise sequences as input signals. The results indicate that, at least for a straightforward approach, signalto-signal-to-interpolation-noise ratios are poorer than generally expected.     

Esterification rates of some saturated and unsaturated fatty acids with glycerol

Esterification rates of eight commonly occurring fatty acids were studied at 180C using equivalent and equimolar amounts of glycerol with and without a cosolvent. The esterification with equivalent amounts of glycerol without cosolvent followed second order kinetics and proceeded at a similar rate for all acids examined. Esterifications with equimolar amounts of glycerol were kinetically complex and their speed depended on the solubility of glycerol in individual fatty acids.

A research program, sponsored by the Rip Van Winkle Foundation, concerned with mental health in rural areas was started in 1955. A few members of the Hudson Post of the American Legion opposed the organized "mental health movement." Local newspaper articles linked "mental health with 'world citizenship, one worldism, internationalism, communism, and socialism.'… Actually, the ruckus did not blow up until the period of data collection from the children was in its last week. Influence of temperature on the reactivity of limestone particles with sulfur dioxide

A modified version of the grain theory was used to analyse the effect of temperature on the sulfation reaction. The theory combines the influence of temperature on the grain size, its effect on the rate of transport of SO₂ and the chemical reaction. An efficient numerical procedure is presented for solving the model equations which take into account the radial gradient of the effective diffusivity in a particle.     

Development of cochlear function in the neonate Mongolian gerbil (Meriones unguiculatus).

Studied auditory sensitivity and changes of selected structures of the external, middle, and inner ear in 31 Mongolian gerbil neonates. Data demonstrate an improvement in sensitivity to sound associated with postnatal changes in the morphology of the ear. Cochlear potentials and a concomitant reflex response to sound were observed 14 days after birth. At this state of postnatal development the organ of Corti appeared mature, the external auditory canal was open, but mesenchyme was present within the tympanic bulla. Methanolysis of triglycerides

Summary Alkali-catalyzed methanolysis of fats as a means of preparing methyl esters for analytical purposes has been investigated. Of the various catalysts employed sodium methoxide and ignited potassium carbonate have been found to set free 99–99.5% of total glycerol and to cause the least degree of saponification.
