Alumina-carbon nanofibres (CNFs) and silicon carbide–CNFs nanocomposites with different volume fraction of CNFs (0–100 vol.%) were obtained by spark plasma sintering. The effect of CNFs content on the tribological behaviour in dry sliding conditions on the ceramic–carbon nanocomposites has been investigated using the ball-on-disk technique against alumina balls. The wear rate of ceramic–CNFs nanocomposites decreases with CNFs increasing content. The friction coefficient of the Al2O3/CNFs and SiC/CNFs nanocomposites with high CNFs content was found to be significantly lower compared to monolithic Al2O3 and SiC due to the effect of CNFs and unexpectedly slightly lower than CNFs material. The main wear mechanism in the nanocomposite was abrasion of the ceramic and carbon components which act in the interface as a sort of lubricating media. The experimental results demonstrate that the addition of CNFs to the ceramic composites significantly reduces friction coefficient and wear rate, resulting in suitable materials for unlubricated tribological applications. 相似文献

The work reported here involves the preparation and characterization of ceramic glazes made from combinations of different industrial wastes. The wastes were float glass, granite and lime shale (a raw material waste from the oil shale industry in São Mateus do Sul, state of Paraná, Brazil), which were used to replace natural raw materials in a proportion of up to 50% in weight. The compositions were formulated using the Seger method and prepared by conventional ceramic processing. The stabilized suspensions were applied in commercial wall tile and porcelain stoneware tile, which were sintered at temperatures of 1080 °C and 1150 °C, respectively, using two different heating cycle. Three compositions were developed, two of which yielded opaque glazes and one a transparent glaze. Linear thermal expansion coefficients (α) of 80.10?7 °C?1 to 100.10?7 °C?1, and glaze softening temperatures of 600–700 °C were characterized by dilatometric analysis. The glaze compositions showed chemical resistance against acid and alkaline attack after 96 h, showing a mass loss of less than 0.1% in weight. The surface hardness of the glazes determined by the Mohs scale, Vickers microhardness and abrasion resistance (PEI indices) were between 6–7, 3–3.7 GPa and 3–4, respectively. Urease (Urs) was immobilized in electrochemically prepared polypyrrole (PPy) and the resulting films were characterized by cyclic voltammetry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and ultraviolet visible spectroscopy (UV-VIS). The enzymatic activity of Urs entrapped in the PPy matrix was confirmed by the catalytic conversion of urea into carbon dioxide and ammonia, when urea was detected amperometrically at different concentrations in standard samples and commercial fertilizers. The PPy/Urs biosensors exhibited selectivity, a relatively high efficiency at urea concentrations below 3.0 mmol L−1, and a sensitivity to urea of 2.41 μA cm−2 mmol−1 L. 相似文献

Fusarium verticillioides and Fusarium subglutinans are important fungal pathogens of maize and other cereals worldwide. In this study, we developed PCR-based protocols for the identification of these pathogens targeting the gaoB gene, which codes for galactose oxidase. The designed primers recognized isolates of F. verticillioides and F. subglutinans that were obtained from maize seeds from several producing regions of Brazil but did not recognize other Fusarium spp. or other fungal genera that were either obtained from fungal collections or isolated from maize seeds. A multiplex PCR protocol was established to simultaneously detect the genomic DNA from F. verticillioides and F. subglutinans. This protocol could detect the DNA from these fungi growing in artificially or naturally infected maize seeds. Another multiplex reaction with a pair of primers developed in this work combined with a pre-existing pair of primers has allowed identifying F. subglutinans, F. konzum, and F. thapsinum. In addition, the identification of F. nygamai was also possible using a combination of two PCR reactions described in this work, and another described in the literature. 相似文献

There is an increasing demand of multifunctional materials for a wide variety of technological developments. Bipolar plates for proton exchange membrane fuel cells are an example of complex functionality components that must show among other properties high mechanical strength, electrical, and thermal conductivity. The present research explored the possibility of using alumina–carbon nanofibers (CNFs) nanocomposites for this purpose. In this study, it was studied for the first time the whole range of powder compositions in this system. Homogeneous powders mixtures were prepared and subsequently sintered by spark plasma sintering. The materials obtained were thoroughly characterized and compared in terms of properties required to be used as bipolar plates. The control on material microstructure and composition allows designing materials where mechanical or electrical performances are enhanced. A 50/50 vol.% alumina–CNFs composite appears to be a very promising material for this kind of application. 相似文献

The effect of heat‐moisture treatment (HMT) on the properties of pinhão starches under different moisture and heat conditions was investigated. The starches were adjusted to 15, 20 and 25% moisture levels and heated to 100, 110 and 120°C for 1 h. The X‐ray diffractograms, swelling power, solubility, gel hardness, pasting properties and thermal properties of the native and HMT pinhão starches were evaluated. Compared to native starch, there was an increase in the X‐ray intensity and gel hardness of HMT starches, with the exception of the 25% moisture‐treated and 120°C heat‐treated starch. HMT reduced the swelling power and solubility of the pinhão starches when compared to native starch. There was an increase in the pasting temperature, final viscosity and setback and a decrease in the peak viscosity and breakdown of HMT pinhão starches compared to native starch. HMT increases the gelatinisation temperature of native pinhão starch and reduces gelatinisation enthalpy. 相似文献

This study investigated the effects of sodium hypochlorite oxidation and a heat-moisture treatment of potato starch on the physicochemical, pasting and textural properties of potato starches in addition to the water vapour permeability (WVP) and mechanical properties of potato starch films produced from these starches. The carbonyl contents, carboxyl contents, swelling power, solubility, pasting properties and gel texture of the native, oxidised and heat-moisture treated (HMT) starches were evaluated. The films made of native, oxidised and HMT starches were characterised by thickness, water solubility, colour, opacity, mechanical properties and WVP. The oxidised and HMT starches had lower viscosity and swelling power compared to the native starch. The films produced from oxidised potato starch had decreased solubility, elongation and WVP values in addition to increased tensile strength compared to the native starch films. The HMT starch increased the tensile strength and WVP of the starch films compared to the native starch. 相似文献

This study was conducted to assess the dissemination of Salmonella clonal groups in slaughterhouses that received batches of Salmonella -positive pigs and used different routine processing procedures. Eight serial sampling sessions were conducted in three slaughterhouses (A, B, and C). Blood was collected randomly (n = 25) from each batch of pigs and processed for serology. Carcasses (n = 12) were identified and sampled after dehairing, after singeing, after evisceration, and before chilling. A section of cecum also was collected. Salmonella isolates were submitted to pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. The overall seroprevalence of Salmonella was 80.6% (316 of 392 samples), and cecal contents were positive for Salmonella in 23.8% (26 of 109) of the pigs sampled. Carcasses after dehairing had a significantly higher prevalence of Salmonella (P = 0.004) and the highest Salmonella levels (median ~ 0.26 log CFU/300 cm(2)). The singeing step significantly affected the Salmonella status of the carcasses (P = 0.001); however, the efficacy of singeing differed among slaughterhouses. In the prechilling step, 14.7% (16 of 109) of the carcasses were positive for Salmonella. Salmonella pulsotypes found on the prechill carcasses were also found in the lairage, in the cecal contents, and on carcasses after dehairing, suggesting that the main source of contamination was the slaughter process before singeing. Slaughterhouse C was the most likely (odds ration [OR] ~ 6.51) to have pigs carrying Salmonella in the gut, and slaughterhouse B was the most likely (OR ~ 14.66) to have contaminated carcasses at the prechilling step. These findings indicate that the procedures adopted in slaughterhouse B contributed to the spread of Salmonella strains. In contrast, in slaughterhouse C the Salmonella strains carried by the pigs or found in the lairage were not recovered from prechilled carcasses, validating the effectiveness of the slaughterhouse interventions. These results indicate that an effective slaughter process can help decrease the number of Salmonella-positive carcasses in slaughterhouses that receive Salmonella-positive pig batches. 相似文献

Given the increasing number of antibiotic-resistant bacteria and the need to synthesize new antimicrobials, silver has attracted interest in the scientific community because of its recognized antimicrobial activity. This study aimed to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of silver nanoparticles (NP) obtained by a new method and tested at concentrations of 6 μg/ml and 60 μg/ml against the species Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria innocua, Salmonella Choleraesuis, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Escherichia coli, and Bacillus cereus. The ability of these nanoparticles to remove or kill vegetative cells adhered to stainless steel surfaces was also evaluated. We observed that the NP obtained with the new method, concentrated silver nanoparticles (CNP), and silver nanoparticles with added sodium chloride (NPNaCl) had high antimicrobial activities (P < 0.05). We also verified that the most effective condition for the removal of P. aeruginosa cells on stainless steel coupons (10 by 10 mm) was immersion of the surfaces in CNP. The CNP treatment produced a 5-log reduction of the microbial population after 30 to 60 min of immersion. The CNP treatment also performed better than water and sodium carbonate, a compound commonly applied in clean-in-place procedures in the food industry, in removing adherent B. cereus cells from stainless steel cylinders. Therefore, these results suggest that NP synthesized by a new procedure may be used as antimicrobials in the food industry, for example, for the sanitization of utensils that come into contact with foods. 相似文献
