CoSi2 layers were produced by 70 keV Co focused ion implantation into Si(111). Within a comparative study the CoSi2 layer quality and implantation damage were investigated as a function of pixel dwell-time and substrate temperature. Irradiation damage measurements were done by micro-Raman analysis. The results suggest that the dwell-time dependence of the CoSi2 layer formation — continuous layers for short and disrupted ones for long dwell-times — is caused by an accordant transition from crystalline to amorphous silicon. 相似文献

The aim of this study was (a) to show that different measures of spatial cognition are modulated by the menstrual cycle and (b) to analyze which steroid is responsible for these cognitive alterations. The authors collected blood samples in 3-day intervals over 6 weeks from 12 young women with a regular menstrual cycle to analyze concentrations of estradiol, progesterone, testosterone, luteinizing hormone, and follicle-stimulating hormone. The performance on 3 spatial tests was measured during the menstrual and the midluteal phases. A significant cycle difference in spatial ability as tested by the Mental Rotation Test was found, with high scores during the menstrual phase and low scores during the midluteal phase. Testosterone had a strong and positive influence on mental rotation performance, whereas estradiol had a negative one. 4-Hydroxyphenylacetate 3-hydroxylase (4HPA3H), a flavin-dependent monooxygenase from E. coli that catalyzes the hydroxylation of monophenols to catechols, was modified by rational redesign to convert also more bulky substrates, especially phenolic natural products like phenylpropanoids, flavones or coumarins. Selected amino acid positions in the binding pocket of 4HPA3H were exchanged with residues from the homologous protein from Pseudomonas aeruginosa, yielding variants with improved conversion of spacious substrates such as the flavonoid naringenin or the alkaloid mimetic 2-hydroxycarbazole. Reactions were followed by an adapted Fe(III)-catechol chromogenic assay selective for the products. Especially substitution of the residue Y301 facilitated modulation of substrate specificity: introduction of nonaromatic but hydrophobic (iso)leucine resulted in the preference of the substrate ferulic acid (having a guaiacyl (guajacyl) moiety, part of the vanilloid motif) over unsubstituted monophenols. The in vivo (whole-cell biocatalysts) and in vitro (three-enzyme cascade) transformations of substrates by 4HPA3H and its optimized variants was strictly regiospecific and proceeded without generation of byproducts. 相似文献

With the completeness of genome databases, it has become possible to develop a novel FISH (Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization) technique called COMBO-FISH (COMBinatorial Oligo FISH). In contrast to other FISH techniques, COMBO-FISH makes use of a bioinformatics approach for probe set design. By means of computer genome database searching, several oligonucleotide stretches of typical lengths of 15–30 nucleotides are selected in such a way that all uniquely colocalize at the given genome target. The probes applied here were Peptide Nucleic Acids (PNAs)—synthetic DNA analogues with a neutral backbone—which were synthesized under high purity conditions. For a probe repetitively highlighted in centromere 9, PNAs labeled with different dyes were tested, among which Alexa 488® showed reversible photobleaching (blinking between dark and bright state) a prerequisite for the application of SPDM (Spectral Precision Distance/Position Determination Microscopy) a novel technique of high resolution fluorescence localization microscopy. Although COMBO-FISH labeled cell nuclei under SPDM conditions sometimes revealed fluorescent background, the specific locus was clearly discriminated by the signal intensity and the resulting localization accuracy in the range of 10–20 nm for a detected oligonucleotide stretch. The results indicate that COMBO-FISH probes with blinking dyes are well suited for SPDM, which will open new perspectives on molecular nanostructural analysis of the genome. 相似文献

A laser focus sensor and a contact inductive sensor have been coupled to an ultra high precision positioning stage, referred to as a nanomeasuring machine (NMM), for measurements of dimensional standards with a large measurement volume of 25 mm × 25 mm × 5 mm. Control and measurement software have been designed and complemented. The measurement uncertainty of strengthened NMM has been analyzed and discussed. Groove depth and step height standards with feature heights of tens of micrometres to millimetres as well as aspherical surface etalons are calibrated by nanomeasuring machine. The paper also introduces a method for characterising the measured aspheric surface by least square fitting the measured data to a quadratic paraboloid function. The obtained quadratic coefficients are compared to that measured by a conventional coordinate measuring machine (CMM) and a stylus profiler, showing a good agreement. 相似文献

We demonstrate an integrated nanophotonic network in diamond, consisting of a ring resonator coupled to an optical waveguide with grating in- and outcouplers. Using a nitrogen-vacancy color center embedded inside the ring resonator as a source of photons, single photon generation and routing at room temperature is observed. Furthermore, we observe a large overall photon extraction efficiency (10%) and high quality factors of ring resonators (3200 for waveguide-coupled system and 12,600 for a bare ring). 相似文献

Facing a terminal illness is an unimaginably difficult experience, yet many individuals intend to work despite their prognosis. However, research has not systematically examined the potential antecedents underlying such intentions. Using behavioral intention theory as an underlying framework, this study hypothesized that reasons for working (intrinsic and extrinsic), the will to live, disability severity, accessibility of travel, and age would predict intentions to work during terminal illness. A representative sample of medically diagnosed amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (a.k.a. Lou Gehrig's disease) patients with a mean life expectancy of approximately 3 years participated (mean age=57.8 years). Controlling for length of diagnosis, employment status, and demographic variables, results indicated that intrinsic reasons were particularly strong predictors of intentions, followed by age, disability severity, and accessibility of travel. Exploratory findings also indicated that behavioral intentions were positively related to future employment status, consistent with past theory. Responsive materials with birefringent optical properties have been exploited for the manipulation of light in several modern electronic devices. While electrical fields are often utilized to achieve optical modulation, magnetic stimuli may offer an enticing complementary approach for controlling and manipulating light remotely. Here, the synthesis and characterization of magnetically responsive birefringent microparticles with unusual magneto‐optical properties are reported. These functional microparticles are prepared via a microfluidic emulsification process, in which water‐based droplets are generated in a flow‐focusing device and stretched into anisotropic shapes before conversion into particles via photopolymerization. Birefringence properties are achieved by aligning cellulose nanocrystals within the microparticles during droplet stretching, whereas magnetic responsiveness results from the addition of superparamagnetic nanoparticles to the initial droplet template. When suspended in a fluid, the microparticles can be controllably manipulated via an external magnetic field to result in unique magneto‐optical coupling effects. Using a remotely actuated magnetic field coupled to a polarized optical microscope, these microparticles can be employed to convert magnetic into optical signals or to estimate the viscosity of the suspending fluid through magnetically driven microrheology. 相似文献
