In this study we evaluated the efficiency of six extraction methods for emu fat based on the quantification of yield, color, density, refraction index, and rheological behavior. Both physical methods (Bain Marie, rotary evaporator, fusion, ultrasound, and microwave) and chemical methods (solvents) were evaluated. Oil properties were compared with commercial emu oil as a reference. Solvent‐based extraction produced the greatest yield (72.8%). Among the physical methods, the greatest yield was produced by the ultrasound method (42.8%). In general, properties were similar to those reported for vegetable oils. The rotary evaporator method showed the greatest difference in total color (ΔE) in comparison with a commercially‐produced reference, while the fusion method showed the smallest ΔE. No statistically significant differences were found between the density and refraction index of the treated samples and those of the reference. Kinematic viscosity increased significantly in samples extracted via microwave method. All samples displayed pseudoplastic behavior. The data showed a good fit to the power law model (R2 > 0.90). The consistency coefficient and flow behavior index were determined for all methods. Practical applications: Therapeutic applications for oil have been posited for emu oil. In pharmaceutical products, oils are used as emollients and as carriers for medicinal substances. The practical importance of an oil depends on its physical properties, thus a thorough understanding of those physical properties is very important for identifying potential applications. These properties are affected by the extraction method employed; the present paper evaluates the effects of a range of extraction methods on yield efficiency, as well as physical and rheological properties. Novel extraction methods such as ultrasound and microwave are also evaluated in this study.  相似文献

A characterization study of the main olive oil cultivars of southwest Spain (Picual, Arbequina, and Verdial) has been performed in order to establish logistic regression models. Several quality characteristics (free acidity, peroxide value, K232, K270, oxidative stability index) and chemical data (fatty acids, sterols, erythrodiol–uvaol composition) were measured. Logit regressions were used to evaluate the correlation of the parameters and to create models that allow saving costs on identifying oils as Arbequina, Picual, or Verdial type. Multiple logit regression models were developed: one for Arbequina, three models for Picual, and two models for Verdial cultivar, allowing in this way to minimize the cost for classifying oil samples. Practical application: The olive oil marketing is increasingly focused on the chemical differentiation and characterization of the product because the chemical composition of these virgin oils is responsible for their valuable sensory and nutritional properties. Here we present a characterization study (quality characteristics and chemical data) from the main olive oil cultivars of southwest Spain, Picual, Arbequina, and Verdial, as a first step for the traceability of these three types of monocultivar virgin olive oils. The results may be used as a training to create models for other olive oil cultivars.  相似文献

The biosynthesis of the phenolic fraction of olive fruits during ripening and the transformations occurring in this moiety during virgin olive oil (VOO) extraction are discussed in this paper. The influence of agronomical factors that can significantly affect the phenolic profile of VOO is also discussed. Particularly, it is worth emphasizing the role of genetic factors, cultivation and climatic conditions such as water availability, atmospheric temperature, altitude, health status of the fruits, alternate bearing in the olive, and some processing factors such as crushing, malaxation time and temperature or volume of water added during milling. Among these parameters, special attention has been paid to genetic factors due to the high variability observed among Olea europaea genotypes for all recorded traits. In this context, interesting experimental results have been obtained with cultivated and wild olive trees, and also with segregating populations resulting from olive breeding programs. To the authors' knowledge, reviews evaluating the influence of the main factors that contribute to the profile of hydrophilic phenols have not been previously published. The discussion concerning olive breeding programs is a major and novel aspect to be emphasized considering recent trends to obtain new olive cultivars that confer better organoleptic properties and better quality to VOO.  相似文献

In this work, the ability of pine bark procyanidins to hinder oxidation in bulk corn oil and corn oil‐in‐water‐emulsion has been investigated. A preliminary characterisation of the obtained aqueous (AF) and organic (OW) fractions and subfractions suggested a very polar character and showed that both fractions possess remarkable antioxidant activity when minimum concentrations of 2 mg/mL are used. OW fractions and subfractions derived from both pine varieties were able to inhibit oxidation in oils. More specifically, two organic subfractions were the most efficient for retarding the degradation process, with levels of 62% and 50% after 8 days of treatment, respectively. Organic subfractions obtained from both varieties of pine also rendered possible inhibition levels in oil‐in‐water‐emulsions up to 80% after 4 days of oxidation, more than 3 times higher than the levels provided by tocopherol, a well‐known model commercial antioxidant, which confirms the excellent antioxidant potential of procyanidins from pine bark. Practical application: Lipid deterioration leads to losses in quality and nutritional value and to the development of off‐flavours in many foodstuffs. One way to overcome this drawback is by using antioxidants of natural origin, which is a subject of a great scientific and industrial interest, reflected by the growing number of papers and patents published during the last years. Since aqueous and organic fractions obtained from Pinus pinaster and Pinus radiata bark turned out to be an adequate source of procyanidins in previous investigations of our group, their possible antioxidant role in model lipid systems was investigated. This approach entails also another benefit in terms of waste valorisation, since pine bark is a typical residue of agroforestal industries.  相似文献

A series of colour assays were conducted taking into account old bibliographic recommendations and oral testimony regarding traditional lime painting technology from the Alentejo (South Portugal) region. The main objectives were: (a) the colorimetric analysis of paintings made with different limewash preparation methods; (b) the comparison between natural processed red and yellows ochre pigments (“home made” and from industrial origin) and synthetic iron oxides in different concentrations and lime proportions; (c) the evaluation of the colorimetric CIELAB coordinates during the lime carbonation process in coloured mortars and limewashes. The results shows that the evolution of L*, a*, and b* during the carbonation process is independent of pigment concentration and paint thickness but dependent of pigment composition and finishing technique (lime painting or coloured mortar). This article explores the chromatic reconstruction of La Boca neighborhood of Buenos Aires, Argentina and seeks to protect its patrimonial heritage. This article is organized into three parts: an Introduction, a section entitled Searching for Colours, and a Conclusion. The Introduction explains the historical factors contributing to the large‐scale Italian immigration that settled in La Boca neighborhood as well as their influence in shaping the character and landscape of the area. This section also comments on the emergence of the zone's brightly coloured homes, which have become a trademark of the neighborhood. The second section, Searching for Colours, details the composition of the paints made and used by La Boca residents, in addition to the field research, the method of analysis and the results of the study. The Conclusion highlights the importance of preserving areas of significant historical and patrimonial heritage such as La Boca, an ever more timely challenge in an increasingly globalized world. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this paper we evaluate the stability, purity and regulated quality composition of fatty acids and sterols (both physico‐chemical and sensory) of commercial Argentinean virgin olive oils in order to evaluate their acceptance on the world market. For this purpose, samples of the best known and most widely distributed oils in supermarkets located in Buenos Aires (Argentina) were acquired. After thoroughly analysing these samples, only 20% were considered to have an acceptable quality. However, some were excluded because of their high campesterol content, which could be an intrinsic characteristic of these oils. The most useful analytical parameter used to confirm authenticity was ECN‐42 R – ECN‐42 T, followed by wax content and 3.5 stigmastadienes. Only 24% of the extra‐virgin olive oil samples were classified as ‘extra‐virgin’ from the regulated quality viewpoint. The low oleic and high linolenic acid contents of the Argentinean virgin olive oils stand out when compared with European virgin olive oils. The oxidative stability values may be considered very low, indeed even lower than those obtained in Spanish virgin olive oils.  相似文献

A series of hydrotalcite‐like compounds was synthesized by varying Mg/Al molar ratio with values of 2, 3, and 4. After thermal treatment at 823 K, the corresponding mixed oxides were obtained and used as catalytic supports. The incorporation of a Pd metallic phase (0.5 g/g loading), was carried out by two methods: 1) in situ vapour phase thermal decomposition, and 2) impregnation by organic method. Fresh and calcined samples were characterized by XRD and N2 sorption experiments. The basic and metal functions were analyzed by CO2‐TPD and H2‐TPR. The Pd‐support interaction was studied by FTIR spectroscopy using CO as a probe molecule while the morphology of Pd nanoparticles on the catalysts was studied by SEM, HRTEM, and theoretical simulation using the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method. Finally, the catalytic activity results showed a higher conversion towards hydrocinnamaldehyde in the cinnamaldehyde hydrogenation reaction for the catalysts prepared by vapour phase thermal decomposition, compared with those prepared by organic method, showing the significant dependence on the catalytic activity and the Pd incorporation method.  相似文献

Cancer continues to be a worldwide health problem. Certain macrocyclic molecules have become attractive therapeutic alternatives for this disease because of their efficacy and, frequently, their novel mechanisms of action. Herein, we report the synthesis of a series of 20‐, 21‐, and 22‐membered macrocycles containing triazole and bis(aryl ether) moieties. The compounds were prepared by a multicomponent approach from readily available commercial substrates. Notably, some of the compounds displayed interesting cytotoxicity against cancer (PC‐3) and breast (MCF‐7) cell lines, especially those bearing an aliphatic or a trifluoromethyl substituent on the N‐phenyl moiety (IC50<13 μm ). Additionally, some of the compounds were able to induce apoptosis relative to the solvent control; in particular, (Z)‐N‐cyclohexyl‐7‐oxo‐6‐[4‐(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]‐11H‐3,10‐dioxa‐6‐aza‐1(4,1)‐triazola‐4(1,3),9(1,4)‐dibenzenacyclotridecaphane‐5‐carboxamide ( 12 f ) was the most potent in this regard (22.7 % of apoptosis).  相似文献

Rhabdophane-type Eu3+,Tb3+-codoped LaPO4·nH2O single-crystal nanorods with the compositions La0.99999-xEuxTb0.00001PO4·nH2O (x?=?0–0.03), La0.99999-yTbyEu0.00001PO4·n′H2O (y?=?0–0.010), and La0.99999-zTbzEu0.000007PO4·n′′H2O (z?=?0–0.012) were hydrothermally synthesized with microwaves. It is shown that the Eu3+,Tb3+ codoping does not affect the thermal stability of these nanorods, which is due to the formation of substitutional solid solutions with both Eu3+ and Tb3+ replacing La3+ in the crystal lattice. Moreover, it is also shown that monazite-type Eu3+,Tb3+-codoped LaPO4 single-crystal nanorods can be obtained by calcining their rhabdophane-type Eu3+,Tb3+-codoped LaPO4·(n,n′ or n′′)H2O counterparts at moderate temperature in air, and that they are thermally stable. It is also observed that, for the same Eu3+,Tb3+-codoping content, the monazite-type Eu3+,Tb3+-codoped LaPO4 nanorods exhibit higher photoluminescent efficiency than the rhabdophane-type Eu3+,Tb3+-codoped LaPO4· (n,n′ or n′′)H2O nanorods. Moreover, it is found that the highest photoluminescence emission corresponds to the monazite-type La0.96999Eu0.02Tb0.00001PO4 nanorods for the La0.99999-xEuxTb0.00001PO4 system. However, for those compositions energy transfer from Tb3+ to Eu3+ does not occur. In addition, for an efficient energy transfer to occur, a content of at least 1?mol% Tb3+ is needed in all the studied materials.  相似文献
