A new method of introducing dithioester groups into the polymer chain of poly(cyclohexene oxide) is reported. It includes the use of diaryliodonium salt and an aromatic dithioacid as a redox couple to initiate the cationic polymerization of cyclohexene oxide. It was found that the dithioacid by itself cannot start the polymerization of cationic polymerizable monomers; however, in combination with a diaryliodonium salt, an exothermic reaction was produced, yielding a thiocarbonylthio‐functionalized polyether. Thermal profiles of the redox polymerizations were determined by means of optical pyrometry. A preliminary study showed that when the poly(cyclohexene oxide) functionalized with dithioester groups was introduced into the radical polymerization of styrene, the polystyryl growing radicals reacted with the dithioester‐functionalized polyether to form a block polymer. The amount of polyether actually incorporated into the block copolymer was calculated to be 70% of the initial amount of poly(cyclohexene oxide)/dithiobenzoic acid charged into the reactor. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Solid-state THz devices usually suffer from low power output. This, however, can be overcome by efficient power combining. In this paper, the power combining of a chain of active devices (longitudinal array of N Gunn diodes) in a semi-infinite transmission line has been simulated. Superlinear growth of power P is found in a line with inductive-capacitive elements: P is quadratic in N when P is small and becomes linear when P is large. Intricate auto-modulation due to coupling between the devices is shown to accompany power combining.  相似文献

The effects of pentacyclic triterpene glycosides extracted from agria and organ pipe cacti on three fitness parameters of the cactophilic fruit fly,Drosophila mojavensis were tested. Triterpene glycosides from organ pipe increased development time and reduced larval viability while those from agria produced smaller adults (reduced fecundity). In addition, the microbial communities in the organ pipe saponin media were less dense than those in the media to which agria saponins had been added. The role of cactus triterpene glycosides in the ecology of thisDrosophila species is discussed.  相似文献

Lake whitefish (Coregonus clupeaformis) within the waters of Green Bay, Lake Michigan have recently shown a substantial increase in abundance. Furthermore, after over 100 years of extirpation, adult lake whitefish are found spawning within major Wisconsin tributaries to Green Bay. Many knowledge gaps still exist with respect to the chronology of adult river migrations, including the physical characteristics of upstream habitats selected for reproduction and the extent of larval production by these riverine ecotypes. Here, we use hydroacoustic imaging along with egg and larval surveys to evaluate this novel riverine spawning in 2017 and 2018. Highest abundance of adults was observed in the month of November as temperatures declined below 8 °C. Spawning areas consisted of cobble substrates, and site-specific fish densities were primarily correlated with river flows between 0.3 and 1.0 m/s, with specific values varying by tributary and year. Locations of egg deposition mirrored areas of high observed fish densities. Larval production was documented on each tributary using active trawl ichthyoplankton sampling, and larvae were observed outmigrating to open water environments. We estimated tributaries produced 452,000 larvae in 2017 and 721,000 larvae in 2018. To our knowledge, this represents the first documentation of successful lake whitefish larval production from Green Bay tributaries and suggests tributary spawning populations contribute to the greater abundance of lake whitefish observed in recent years.  相似文献

Summary: In this paper, we describe the use of artificial opals from polymer beads as effect pigments in transparent industrial and automotive coatings. For this purpose, we synthesized monodisperse colloids from fluorinated methacrylates by surfactant‐free emulsion polymerization. The fluorinated monomers, in combination with crosslinking, lead to a refractive index contrast, thermal stability, and solvent resistivity necessary for use as effect pigments. After crystallization of the monodisperse polymer beads, crystal flakes with iridescent colors can be obtained. The crystal flakes can act as effect pigments in various transparent industrial and automotive coatings. Due to photonic crystal behavior of effect pigments, color flops up to 100 nm are observed.

The phase diagram of the Al2O3–ZrO2–Sm2O3 system was constructed in the temperature range 1250°–2800°C. The phase transformations in the system are completed in eutectic reactions. No ternary compounds or regions of appreciable solid solution were found in the components or binaries in this ternary system. Two new ternary and one new binary eutectics were found. The minimum melting temperature is 1680°C and it corresponds to the ternary eutectic Al2O3+F-ZrO2+SmAlO3. The solidus surface projection, the schematic of the alloy crystallization path, and the vertical sections present the complete phase diagram of the Al2O3–ZrO2–Sm2O3 system.  相似文献

Single crystals of bis thiourea cadmium iodide[CdI2(CH4N2S)2], abbreviated as BTCI, a semiorganic material has been successfully grown by both slow evaporation and slow cooling methods. Crystal of dimensions up to 3.3 × 1.0 × 1.5 cm3 is reported. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis has been carried out to confirm monoclinic system and etching studies for their perfection. The morphology of the grown crystal was also identified by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The powder X-ray diffractogram of the crystal has been recorded and the various planes of reflection are identified. The presence of functional groups and the coordination of metal ions to thiourea were confirmed by FTIR analysis. Transmission spectra reveals that the crystal has low UV cutoff of 324 nm and has a good transmittance in the entire visible region enabling its use in optical applications. The thermal behaviour of the crystal has been investigated using thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and differential thermal analysis (DTA), which indicates that the material does not decompose before melting. Studies of dielectric properties (dielectric constant and dielectric loss) both as function of frequencies (100 Hz to 5 MHz) for varying temperatures in the range 308–348 K suggests good candidate for electro optic modulators.  相似文献

Thermodynamic properties of Lennard–Jones (LJ) face-centered cubic crystals are calculated in a wide range of temperatures along sublimation and melting lines on the basis of statistical mechanical theory which accounts for anharmonicity, pair and triple correlations in the displacements of atoms. Results are compared with the most accurate Monte Carlo data available. Excellent agreement was found. Anharmonic and correlation contributions to entropy, internal energy, and the compressibility factor of LJ solids are computed and their relative importance analyzed. An analytical equation of state approximating the theoretical results is developed.  相似文献

Generally numerical modelling can provide an accurate and cost-effective approach to understand the behaviour of geosynthetic-reinforced column-supported embankment. When the problem geometry cannot be simplified to the two-dimensional plane-strain or axisymmetric, a full three-dimensional solution is required to obtain sensible results. This study presents a modelling of the geosynthetic-reinforced composite ground supporting a road embankment. Response of soft soil is captured by adopting Modified Cam-Clay model. In addition, Hoek-Brown constitutive model is considered to simulate non-linear stress-dependent yield criterion for Concrete Injected Columns (CIC) that describes shear failure and tensile failure by a continuous function. To assess whether the proposed numerical model can capture real behaviour of composite ground, field monitoring data of deep soft clay deposit improved by CIC from Gerringong Upgrade is used to validate the model. The settlement and lateral displacements of ground, stress transferred to column, and pore water pressure results for the embankment during and after the construction, measured using the field instrumentations including settlement plates, inclinometers, earth pressure cells on CIC, and pore pressure transducers, are compared with numerical predictions. In addition, the numerical results provide insights to investigate load transfer mechanism in the composite ground, capturing response of soil – column - embankment system.  相似文献
