We succeeded in the fabrication of bonded laser crystals composed of a neodymium-doped YVO4 laser crystal (Nd:YVO4) and its host crystals YVO4 by a newly developed dry etching technique using an argon ion beam. The optical distortion caused by the bonded interface of size 5 mm × 6 mm was estimated to be 0.05λ at 633 nm. From the comparison of laser performance pumped by a laser diode, the bonded crystals could increase the laser output power by nearly twice that of the non-bonded crystals with the same degree of polarization of 99.2%. To analyze the mechanism of the enhanced reduction of the thermal load in the bonded crystals, numerical simulations with a finite-element method were also performed.  相似文献

Abrasive wear is a major problem in the application of dental composite resins. In this study the friction and wear behaviours of two types of dental composites: one containing relatively coarse filler particles and some microfillers (Estilux) and another containing only microfiller particles (Durafill), have been investigated by using a scratch testing machine. Experimental results show that the coefficients of friction in both composites are essentially constant for applied loads up to 20 N. The wear resistance of Durafill is better than Estilux. Under the same testing conditions, the size, shape and distribution of the filler particles are more important variables than applied load and sliding speed in controlling the wear mechanism. It is shown that for Estilux, plastic ploughing by the diamond indenter is the predominant mechanism. For Durafill, however, the formation and propagation of tensile cracks on the worn surface is the main wear mechanism. The effects of two different indenters, diamond and enamel, on the basic wear mechanisms are also discussed.  相似文献

The effects of particulate reinforcement on the fatigue behaviour and fatigue mechanisms of two 6061 aluminium-based metal-matrix composites (MMCs) in three different heattreatment conditions were studied in situ with a scanning electron microscope and compared to the unreinforced alloy in the as-received condition. It was observed that the fatigue properties of the MMCs were influenced by the ceramic particles in two ways: firstly the particles increased the fatigue stress intensity threshold mainly by crack-deflection and crack-closure mechanisms, and secondly, the particles raised the fatigue crack growth rates in the Paris region by providing an easy crack path. The effect of ageing was small on the fatigue stress intensity threshold of MMCs, but for the peak-aged MMCs the fatigue crack growth rates in the Paris region were faster. The mechanism of fatigue crack growth was largely associated with the matrix/particle interface and the linkage with subcracks initiated ahead of the main crack at high applied stress intensity factors.  相似文献

We studied the performance of a prototype electromagnetic calorimeter for the BELLE detector at the KEK proton synchrotron for an energy range of 0.25–3.5 GeV. The prototype consisted of an array of 6 × 5 CsI(Tl) crystals with 30 cm length (16.2 radiation lengths) and about 6 cm × 6 cm cross section. The scintillation light of each CsI(Tl) crystal was read out by two large-area PIN photodiodes and charge-sensitive preamplifiers attached at the rear face of the crystal. We measured the energy and position resolution for electrons and the e/π separation for two sets of matrix configurations: one corresponded to the center and the other to the edge of the barrel calorimeter. The overall performance measured by the test proves that the prototype calorimeter is satisfactory for the use in the BELLE detector.  相似文献

The reliability of InP-based HEMTs is studied, focussing on how it is affected by the doped layer material and gate recess structure. Bias-and-temperature stress tests reveal that fluorine-induced donor passivation in the recess region, formed adjacent to the gate electrode, causes the source resistance (Rs) to increase at large drain bias voltages. The increase in Rs can be prevented by using InP or InAlP as the carrier supply layer material instead of InAlAs. On the other hand, the increase in the drain resistance (Rd) does not depend on the material of the carrier supply layer, which suggests that a mechanism different from that in the case of Rs should be considered. It is also found that a deep gate recess suppresses the increase in Rd after long-term stressing.  相似文献

Theoretical analyses for the single fibre pull-out and push-out models under monotonic loading are given which are based on a shear-lag analysis in a fracture mechanics approach considering non-constant friction at the debonded interface as a result of fibre Poisson contraction (or expansion). The solutions allow the determination of typical fibre/matrix interfacial properties such as the interfacial fracture toughness, Gic, the coefficient of friction, μ, and the residual clamping stress, q0. Under cyclic loading the interfacial properties are expected to degrade as a result of repetitive abrasion, and a power law function is assumed between μ and the number of elapsed cycles, N. However, Gic is assumed to be unaffected and a fracture mechanics based debond criterion is derived for the relationship between the external applied stress, the debond length and the reduced friction coefficient for both fibre pull-out and fibre push-out. In addition, the relative displacements between the free fibre end and the matrix top are obtained for cyclic fatigue when the fibre is loaded and unloaded. A relationship obtained for the protrusion (or intrusion) length in fibre pull-out (or push-out) experiments allows the severity of the interface frictional degradation to be evaluated and characterised. Similarities and differences in the frictional degradation behaviour between fibre pull-out and push-out are also identified.  相似文献

STUDY OBJECTIVES: To determine the rates of alcohol-related morbidity and mortality in a cohort of intoxicated ED patients 5 years after presentation and to compare them with those of non-intoxicated ED patients. METHODS: The study group comprised 150 consecutive ED patients who presented with intoxication (blood alcohol level higher than 100 mg/dL) in June 1986 and 50 control patients matched for age, sex, ED arrival time, and date. The setting was an urban university hospital ED. Morbidity and mortality over a 5-year follow-up period were measured using hospital ED and admission records from all state Level I trauma centers and computerized statewide databases. RESULTS: The 5-year mortality rate among alcohol-intoxicated patients was 2.4 times that of the comparison group (95% confidence interval, .3 to 18.9). The 5-year death rate among intoxicated patients aged 40 to 69 years was especially high (19%). Thirty-seven percent of the intoxicated patients made at least one alcohol-related ED revisit during the follow-up period, compared with 6% of the comparison group (P < .001). Intoxicated patients were more likely to revisit EDs because of suicidal behavior or domestic violence (P = .001). Admission to an alcohol detoxification unit during the follow-up period occurred in 24% of the intoxicated patients, compared with 10% of the sober controls (P = .03). At least one arrest for drunk driving occurred in 47% of the intoxicated group; the rate was lower, but still substantial, in the comparison group (20%, P < .001). CONCLUSION: A single alcohol-related ED visit is an important predictor of continued problem drinking, alcohol-impaired driving and, possibly, premature death.  相似文献

Transparent ZnO/epoxy nanocomposites with high-UV shielding efficiency were reported in this paper. First, zinc oxide (ZnO) precursor was synthesized via the homogeneous precipitation method and ZnO nanoparticles were then made by calcination of the precursor at different temperature. The structural properties of the as-prepared ZnO nanoparticles were studied in detail using thermogravimetry (TGA), differential thermal analysis (DTA), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), respectively. Transparent ZnO/epoxy nanocomposites were subsequently prepared from transparent epoxy (EP-400) and as-prepared ZnO nanoparticles via in situ polymerization. Optical properties of ZnO/epoxy nanocomposites, namely visible light transparency and UV light shielding efficiency, were studied using an ultraviolet-visible (UV-vis) spectrophotometer. The optical properties of the as-obtained nanocomposites were shown to depend on ZnO particle size and content. The nanocomposite containing a very low content (0.07% in weight) of ZnO nanoparticles with an average particle size of 26.7 nm after calcination at 350 °C possessed the most optimal optical properties, namely high-visible light transparency and high-UV light shielding efficiency, that are desirable for many important applications.  相似文献
