Exploring a polygon with robots when the robots do not have knowledge of the surroundings can be viewed as an online problem. Typical for online problems is that decisions must be made based on past events without complete information about the future. In our case the robots do not have complete information about the environment. Competitive analysis can be used to measure the performance of methods solving online problems. The competitive ratio of such a method is the ratio between the method's performance and the performance of the best method having full knowledge of the future. We prove constant competitive strategies and lower bounds for exploring a simple rectilinear polygon in the L1 metric. 相似文献

Five-year changes in episodic and semantic memory were examined in a sample of 829 participants (35-80 years). A cohort-matched sample (N=967) was assessed to control for practice effects. For episodic memory, cross-sectional analyses indicated gradual age-related decrements, whereas the longitudinal data revealed no decrements before age 60, even when practice effects were adjusted for. Longitudinally, semantic memory showed minor increments until age 55, with smaller decrements in old age as compared with episodic memory. Cohort differences in educational attainment appear to account for the discrepancies between cross-sectional and longitudinal data. Collectively, the results show that age trajectories for episodic and semantic memory differ and underscore the need to control for cohort and retest effects in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, respectively. The aim of the European project "ARTEMIS" is to develop a diagnostic system for assessing aging in power cable insulation. Its first task was to make a thorough characterisation of the cable insulation before aging. This is intended to provide a background against which any changes introduced by thermo-electric aging can be identified. The aging markers derived from this initial characterisation will be considered both as diagnostic indicators in their own right, and also to develop an aging model for predictive purposes, if and when possible. This stage of the ARTEMIS programme is now complete and we will present an analysis of the results, and show how they may be correlated with the concepts proposed in aging theories. 相似文献

Embedded control devices today usually allow parameter changes, and possibly activation of different pre-implemented algorithms. Full reprogramming using the complete source code is not allowed for safety, efficiency, and proprietary reasons. For these reasons, embedded regulators are quite rigid and closed concerning the control structure. In several applications, like industrial robots, there is a need to tailor the low level control to meet specific application demands. In order to meet the efficiency and safety demands, a way of building more generic and open regulators has been developed. The key idea is to use pieces of compiled executable code as functional operators, which in the simplest case may appear as ordinary control parameters. In an object oriented framework, this means that new methods can be added to controller objects after implementation of the basic control, even at run-time. The implementation was carried out in industrially well accepted languages such as C and C++. The dynamic binding at run-time differs from ordinary dynamic linking in that only a subset of the symbols can be used. This subset is defined by the fixed part of the system. The safety demands can therefore still be fulfilled. Encouraged by results from fully implemented test cases, we believe that extensive use of this concept will admit more open, still efficient, embedded systems. 相似文献

An increasing number of components in automotive structures are today made from advanced high strength steel (AHSS). Since AHSS demonstrates more severe springback behaviour than ordinary mild steels, it requires more efforts to meet the design specification of the stamped parts. Consequently, the physical fine tuning of the die design and the stamping process can be time consuming. The trial-and-error development process may be shortened by replacing most of the physical try-outs with finite element (FE) simulations of the forming process, including the springback behaviour. Still it can be hard to identify when a stamped part will lead to an acceptable assembly with respect to the geometry and the residual stress state. In part since the assembling process itself will distort the components. To resolve this matter it is here proposed to extend the FE-simulation of the stamping process, to also include the first level sub-assembly stage. In this study a methodology of sequentially simulating each step in the manufacturing process of an assembly is proposed. Each step of the proposed methodology is described, and a validation of the prediction capabilities is performed by comparing with a physically manufactured assembly. The assembly is composed of three sheet metal components made from DP600 steel which are joined by spot welding. The components are designed to exhibit severe springback behaviour in order to put both the forming and subsequent assembling simulations to the test. The use of hypoxic air venting system as fire protection is increasing and is sometimes used to replace traditional extinguishing systems. An oxygen level of 15% is generally used because a lower concentration could pose serious health risks. On the request of the Swedish Radiation Safety Authority, a literature review was conducted to determine advantages and challenges with the system and further research needs. The main advantages with a reduced oxygen environment are the reduced probability of ignition and lowered heat release rate. However, at 15% oxygen level, risk for fire still exists, and the system cannot be seen as an alternative to extinguishing systems. Reduced oxygen environment also results in higher production rates of soot and smoke, and there is limited knowledge regarding the effect of fuel configuration and fire behavior of products. In addition, a first evaluation of the test method specified in the hypoxic air venting standards was carried out through testing. The testing showed that the particleboard passed the test criteria at normal atmosphere even though it is commonly known that a particleboard burns in normal air. It is concluded that the test method has deficiencies, and there is clearly a need for development of the test method to guarantee safety levels. © 2013 The Authors.
