In this paper, we report a method to fabricate microengineered hydrogels that contain a concentration gradient of a drug for high-throughput analysis of cell-drug interactions. A microfluidic gradient generator was used to create a concentration gradient of okadaic acid (OA) as a model drug within poly(ethylene glycol) diacrylate hydrogels. These hydrogels were then incubated with MC3T3-E1 cell seeded glass slides to investigate the cell viability through the spatially controlled release of OA. The drug was released from the hydrogel in a gradient manner and induced a gradient of the cell viability. The drug concentration gradient containing hydrogels developed in this study have the potential to be used for drug discovery and diagnostics applications due to their ability to simultaneously test the effects of different concentrations of various chemicals.  相似文献

In the present investigation, a newly fabricated Al6061 reinforced with various quantity (0.4–1.6 wt%) of nano SiC in steps of 0.4 and fixed quantity (0.5 wt%) of micro graphite particle’s hybrid nanocomposites were prepared by ultrasonic assisted stir casting method. The influence of nano SiC and graphite content on the mechanical and tribological properties of Al6061 hybrid nanocomposites were studied. The pin-on-disc equipment was used to carry out experiment at 10–40 N applied load, 0.5 m/s sliding speed and 1000 m sliding distance. The Al/SiC/Gr hybrid nano-composite and matrix alloy wear surfaces were characterized by FESEM equipped with an EDS, 3D profilometer to understand the wear mechanisms. The results of Al/SiC/Gr self-lubricating hybrid nano-composites showed improved wear resistance than the Al6061 matrix alloy. The co-efficient of friction of Al/SiC/Gr hybrid nano-composites were lower than those of the unreinforced alloy at various applied load. Compared to matrix alloy, the surface roughness of Al/SiC/Gr hybrid nano-composites had significantly reduced to 66% at low load and 75% at high load. Self-lubricating Al/SiC/Gr hybrid nanocomposites showed superior surface smoothness compared to matrix alloy.  相似文献

PURPOSE: A large community-based cancer registry was analyzed to determine if the clinicopathologic characteristics and/or survival rates of lung cancer patients under 50 years of age at diagnosis differ from those of patients 50 years of age or greater at diagnosis. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Data regarding demographics, stage, histology, initial therapy, and survival were obtained on all patients with primary bronchogenic carcinoma registered in the metropolitan Detroit Surveillance, Epidemiology and End Results (SEER) registry from 1973 to 1992. RESULTS: Of 31,266 patients, 9.0% were under 50 years of age at diagnosis. Females (40.1% v 31.2%; P < .001) and blacks (28.7% v 21.9%, P < .001) were overrepresented in the younger group compared with the older group. Younger patients had a significantly higher incidence of adenocarcinoma and were less likely to present with local-stage disease (18.6% v 25.2%; P < .001). Younger patients were significantly more likely to undergo surgery and/or combined-modality therapy. Relative survival at 5 years was significantly better in the younger group (16.1% v 13.4%; P < .001), mainly because of better survival in patients with local-stage disease (48.7% v 35.4%; P < .001). In a multivariate analysis, advanced-stage, nonsurgical initial therapy, age 50 years or greater at diagnosis, and male gender were independent negative prognostic factors. CONCLUSION: The overrepresentation of females and blacks in the group of younger patients with lung cancer suggests an increased susceptibility to lung carcinogens in these populations. Overall, this study suggests that lung cancer is not a more aggressive disease in younger patients and that all patients with lung cancer should be managed along the same therapeutic guidelines.  相似文献

An improvement in the conventional holographic recording setup has been done for liquid (photopolymerizable) or flexible recording materials. The new vertical recording setup that comprises a horizontal substrate holder permits holographic recording on such materials without positioning them between two substrates, as has been done until now. This setup can be conveniently used for the fabrication of transmission, reflection, Fourier transform, and computer-generated holograms with few simple modifications as indicated.  相似文献

Tensile properties of pure molybdenum, a molybdenum - 0.5 at % hafnium carbide, and a molybdenum - 5 at % rhenium - 0.5 at % hafnium carbide were evaluated with a strain rate of 10'Vsec over a temperature region of 1200 to 2400 K in ultrahigh vacuum. The yield strengths, tensile strengths, solution and dispersion strength increments, strain-hardening exponents, and tensile elongations of these materials were determined. The effects of rhenium, hafnium carbide, and temperature on the tensile properties of molybdenum were examined. The fine size and superior thermostability of hafnium carbide: dispersoids resulted in a strong pinning effect on dislocations at high temperatures. Dispersion strengthening by hafnium carbide particles was significant in the entire temperature range employed. Solution strengthening by rhenium was effective up to approximately 1800 K. The microstructures of the post-test molybdenum-base alloys were characterized with a scanning electron microscope and a transmission electron microscope. The dominant deformation mechanism of these alloys was found to be dislocation sliding up to 1800 K. and was grain-boundary sliding at higher temperatures. The dominant strengthening mechanisms involved in these alloys included the long-range and the short-range interactions between the hafnium carbide dispersoids and the dislocations.  相似文献

In this study, novel Al6061–SiC nanocomposites and Al6061–SiC–Gr hybrid nanocomposites were fabricated by ultrasonic cavitation method by adding silicon carbide (SiC) of 0.8 and 1.6% and graphite (Gr) of 0.5 and 1.0% by weight basis for each casting. A Three-level Box–Behnken design of experiment was developed using response surface methodology. Dry sliding wear tests were performed as per the experimental design using a pin-on disc set-up at room temperature. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was applied to investigate the influence of process parameters viz., load, sliding distance, wt% reinforcement and their interactions on specific wear rate and coefficient of friction. Further, a mathematical model was formulated by applying response surface method in order to estimate the tribology characteristics such as wear and COF of the hybrid nanocomposites. The specific wear rate and coefficient of friction were significantly influenced by % of SiC followed by % of Gr, load and sliding distance. The wear test parameters were optimized for minimizing specific wear rate and COF using desirability function approach. A set of optimum parameter of combination for AMMNC was identified as: SiC 1.36wt%; Gr 0.63 wt%; load 35.65 N and sliding distance 2848 m with specific wear rate of 0.517 g/N-m; coefficient of friction 0.181. The AFM image of Al6061–1.36SiC–0.63Gr hybrid nanocomposite at optimized condition confirmed the improvement in the wear surface smoothness of the hybrid nanocomposite compared to Al6061–SiC nanocomposites.  相似文献

Haptics is a valuable tool in minimally invasive surgical simulation and training. We discuss important aspects of haptics in MISST, such as haptic rendering and haptic recording and playback. Minimally invasive surgery has revolutionized many surgical procedures over the last few decades. MIS is performed using a small video camera, a video display, and a few customized surgical tools. In procedures such as gall bladder removal (laparoscopic cholesystectomy), surgeons insert a camera and long slender tools into the abdomen through small skin incisions to explore the internal cavity and manipulate organs from outside the body as they view their actions on a video display. Because the development of minimally invasive techniques has reduced the sense of touch compared to open surgery, surgeons must rely more on the feeling of net forces resulting from tool-tissue interactions and need more training to successfully operate on patients.  相似文献

Ethnic value of many known plants are underexploited for medicinal application besides their proven traditional qualities. One such plant known for wound healing is Tridax procumbens. This plant has wound healing property and is commercially unexploited. Silver nanoparticle (Ag‐NP) were synthesized using this plant extracts using different solvents (methanol, ethyl acetate and aqueous), which exhibit resonance at 426, 424 and 418 nm, respectively. This plant‐mediated Ag‐NPs have strong anti‐bactericidal activity against Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Streptococcus pyogenes, Klebsiella pneumonia, Serratia marcescens and Bacillus subtilis with methanol extract. Further instance, elemental composition was confirmed by energy dispersive X‐ray analysis and particle size ranges were observed at 80–200 nm with spherical shape nanoparticles by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy analysis. The biocompatibility of Ag‐NPs was assessed using fibroblast cell line (L929) by MTT assay with 109.35 µg IC50 value. The oxygen plasma treated and non‐treated bamboo spunlaced nonwoven fabrics were coated with the Ag‐NPs by exhaust method. Contact angle and water retention revealed significant difference in absorption ability of plasma treated fabric. Field emission scanning electron microscopy revealed the presence of Ag‐NPs in plasma coated fabrics. We introduce a generic structure-from-motion approach based on a previously introduced, highly general imaging model, where cameras are modeled as possibly unconstrained sets of projection rays. This allows to describe most existing camera types including pinhole cameras, sensors with radial or more general distortions, catadioptric cameras (central or non-central), etc. We introduce a structure-from-motion approach for this general imaging model, that allows to reconstruct scenes from calibrated images, possibly taken by cameras of different types (cross-camera scenarios). Structure-from-motion is naturally handled via camera independent ray intersection problems, solved via linear or simple polynomial equations. We also propose two approaches for obtaining optimal solutions using bundle adjustment, where camera motion, calibration and 3D point coordinates are refined simultaneously. The proposed methods are evaluated via experiments on two cross-camera scenarios—a pinhole used together with an omni-directional camera and a stereo system used with an omni-directional camera.  相似文献

This paper addresses the passivity‐based control problem for a class of time‐varying delay systems subject to nonlinear actuator faults and randomly occurring uncertainties via fault‐tolerant controller. More precisely, the uncertainties are described in terms of stochastic variables, which satisfies Bernoulli distribution, and the existence of actuator faults are assumed not only linear but also nonlinear, which is a more general one. The main objective of this paper is to design a state feedback‐reliable controller such that the resulting closed‐loop time‐delay system is stochastically stable under a prescribed mixed and passivity performance level γ>0 in the presence of all admissible uncertainties and actuator faults. Based on Lyapunov stability method and some integral inequality techniques, a new set of sufficient conditions is obtained in terms of linear matrix inequality (LMI) constraints to ensure the asymptotic stability of the considered system. Moreover, the control design parameters can be computed by solving a set of LMI constraints. Finally, two examples including a quarter‐car model are provided to show the efficiency and usefulness of the proposed control scheme. Copyright © 2017 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献
