The present paper describes the results of an experimental investigation on the performances of concrete specimens reinforced with either steel or macro-synthetic fibres under three-point bending. Steel fibres are often used to improve the flexural toughness of concrete and are used in various structural applications while synthetic fibres are more often used to reduce crack opening due to shrinkage. Macro-synthetic fibres have been proposed more recently with the aim of creating an alternative to steel fibres in structural applications but their use is still limited.In the tests performed, specimens cast with the same concrete mix, but containing different dosages of either steel or macro-synthetic fibres, were used and compared. In general steel fibres were more efficient in increasing the toughness of concrete than macro-synthetic fibres, even though their results were significantly more scattered.Test results were used to calculate the parameters of stress-crack opening relations via inverse analysis using a cracked hinge model. This numerical model provided results, in terms of force-Crack Mouth Opening Displacement (CMOD) curves, in very good agreement with the experimental data.  相似文献

A low-cost patterning of electrodes was investigated looking forward to replacing conventional photolithography for the processing of low-operating voltage polymeric thin-film transistors. Hard silicon, etched by sulfur hexafluoride and oxygen gas mixture, and flexible polydimethylsiloxane imprinting molds were studied through atomic force microscopy (AFM) and field emission gun scanning electron microscopy. The higher the concentration of oxygen in reactive ion etching, the lower the etch rate, sidewall angle, and surface roughness. A concentration around 30 % at 100 mTorr, 65 W and 70 sccm was demonstrated as adequate for submicrometric channels, presenting a reduced etch rate of 176 nm/min. Imprinting with positive photoresist AZ1518 was compared to negative SU-8 2002 by optical microscopy and AFM. Conformal results were obtained only with the last resist by hot embossing at 120 °C and 1 kgf/cm2 for 2 min, followed by a 10 min post-baking at 100 °C. The patterning procedure was applied to define gold source and drain electrodes on oxide-covered substrates to produce bottom-gate bottom-contact transistors. Poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P3HT) devices were processed on high-κ titanium oxynitride (TiO x N y ) deposited by radiofrequency magnetron sputtering over indium tin oxide-covered glass to achieve low-voltage operation. Hole mobility on micrometric imprinted channels may approach amorphous silicon (~0.01 cm2/V s) and, since these devices operated at less than 5 V, they are not only suitable for electronic applications but also as sensors in aqueous media.  相似文献

In the last years, the number of Wi-Fi hotspots at public venues has undergone a substantial growth, promoting the WLAN technologies as the ubiquitous solution to provide high-speed wireless connectivity in public areas. However, the adoption of a random access CSMA-based paradigm for the 802.11 MAC protocol makes difficult to ensure high throughput and a fair allocation of radio resources in 802.11-based WLANs. In this paper we evaluate extensively via simulations the interaction between the flow control mechanisms implemented at the TCP layer and the contention avoidance techniques used at the 802.11 MAC layer. We conducted our study considering initially M wireless stations performing downloads from the Internet. From our results, we observed that the TCP downlink throughput is not limited by the collision events, but by the inability of the MAC protocol to assign a higher chance of accessing the channel to the base station. We propose a simple and easy to implement modification of the base station’s behavior with the purpose of increasing the TCP throughput reducing useless MAC protocol overheads. With our scheme, the base station is allowed to transmit periodically bursts of data frames towards the mobile hosts. We design a resource allocation protocol aimed at maximizing the success probability of the uplink transmissions by dynamically adapting the burst length to the collision probability estimated by the base station. By its design, our scheme is also beneficial to achieve a fairer allocation of the channel bandwidth among the downlink and uplink flows, and among TCP and UDP flows. Simulation results confirm both the improvement in the TCP downlink throughput and the reduction of system unfairness.  相似文献

The effectiveness of multilayer perceptron (MLP) networks as a tool for the classification of remotely sensed images has been already proven in past years. However, most of the studies consider images characterized by high spatial resolution (around 15-30 m) while a detailed analysis of the performance of this type of classifier on very high resolution images (around 1-2 m) such as those provided by the Quickbird satellite is still lacking. Moreover, the classification problem is normally understood as the classification of a single image while the capabilities of a single network of performing automatic classification and feature extraction over a collection of archived images has not been explored so far. In this paper, besides assessing the performance of MLP for the classification of very high resolution images, we investigate on the generalization capabilities of this type of algorithms with the purpose of using them as a tool for fully automatic classification of collections of satellite images, either at very high or at high-resolution. This paper introduces an approach to effectively exploit incremental SAT in order to search for multiple equivalence-preserving transformations of combinational circuits. Typical applications, such as redundancy removal with observability and external care conditions, adequate abstractions and other optimizations used in a state-of-the-art SAT-based model checker, can reap benefits from the proposed strategies. Our techniques exploit SAT incrementality, by iteratively refining the set of candidate transformations with a counter-example driven analysis, until an unsatisfiable point is reached. The key point of our technique is the ability to address satisfiable instances first, where SAT solvers are generally much faster than with unsatisfiable runs. We also discuss partitioning and problem reduction issues, that are fundamental in order to provide a scalable approach. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed strategies.  相似文献

This paper briefly details the work carried out on the modelling of inductive post filters. This type of filter approach is particularly attractive at millimeter wave frequencies due to its ease of manufacture, however for modelling no true wide band equivalent circuit would seem to be available. In order to overcome this limitation we have developed a rigorous wide band model. The accuracy of the model has been confirmed by numerous experimental measurements and the resulting computer program quickly enables both analysis and synthesis to be carried out. The speed and efficiency of this approach has allowed the effect of mechanical tolerances to be taken into account, thus reducing cost, complexity and assembly times.  相似文献

Tungsten oxide nanostructures functionalized with gold or platinum NPs are synthesized and integrated, using a single‐step method via aerosol‐assisted chemical vapour deposition, onto micro‐electromechanical system (MEMS)‐based gas‐sensor platforms. This co‐deposition method is demonstrated to be an effective route to incorporate metal nanoparticles (NP) or combinations of metal NPs into nanostructured materials, resulting in an attractive way of tuning functionality in metal oxides (MOX). The results show variations in electronic and sensing properties of tungsten oxide according to the metal NPs introduced, which are used to discriminate effectively analytes (C2H5OH, H2, and CO) that are present in proton‐exchange fuel cells. Improved sensing characteristics, in particular to H2, are observed at 250 °C with Pt‐functionalized tungsten oxide films, whereas non‐functionalized tungsten oxide films show responses to low concentrations of CO at low temperatures. Differences in the sensing characteristics of these films are attributed to the different reactivities of metal NPs (Au and Pt), and to the degree of electronic interaction at the MOX/metal NP interface. The method presented in this work has advantages over other methods of integrating nanomaterials and devices, of having fewer processing steps, relatively low processing temperature, and no requirement for substrate pre‐treatment.  相似文献

Video coding technology in the last 20 years has evolved producing a variety of different and complex algorithms and coding standards. So far the specification of such standards, and of the algorithms that build them, has been done case by case providing monolithic textual and reference software specifications in different forms and programming languages. However, very little attention has been given to provide a specification formalism that explicitly presents common components between standards, and the incremental modifications of such monolithic standards. The MPEG Reconfigurable Video Coding (RVC) framework is a new ISO standard currently under its final stage of standardization, aiming at providing video codec specifications at the level of library components instead of monolithic algorithms. The new concept is to be able to specify a decoder of an existing standard or a completely new configuration that may better satisfy application-specific constraints by selecting standard components from a library of standard coding algorithms. The possibility of dynamic configuration and reconfiguration of codecs also requires new methodologies and new tools for describing the new bitstream syntaxes and the parsers of such new codecs. The RVC framework is based on the usage of a new actor/ dataflow oriented language called CAL for the specification of the standard library and instantiation of the RVC decoder model. This language has been specifically designed for modeling complex signal processing systems. CAL dataflow models expose the intrinsic concurrency of the algorithms by employing the notions of actor programming and dataflow. The paper gives an overview of the concepts and technologies building the standard RVC framework and the non standard tools supporting the RVC model from the instantiation and simulation of the CAL model to software and/or hardware code synthesis.  相似文献
