Obesity is a global health problem needing urgent research. Synthetic anti-obesity drugs show side effects and variable effectiveness. Thus, there is a tendency to use natural compounds for the management of obesity. There is a considerable body of knowledge, supported by rigorous experimental data, that natural polyphenols, including curcumin, can be an effective and safer alternative for managing obesity. Curcumin is a is an important compound present in Curcuma longa L. rhizome. It is a lipophilic molecule that rapidly permeates cell membrane. Curcumin has been used as a pharmacological traditional medicinal agent in Ayurvedic medicine for ∼6000 years. This plant metabolite doubtless effectiveness has been reported through increasingly detailed in vitro, in vivo and clinical trials. Regarding its biological effects, multiple health-promoting, disease-preventing and even treatment attributes have been remarkably highlighted. This review documents the status of research on anti-obesity mechanisms and evaluates the effectiveness of curcumin for management of obesity. It summarizes different mechanisms of anti-obesity action, associated with the enzymes, energy expenditure, adipocyte differentiation, lipid metabolism, gut microbiota and anti-inflammatory potential of curcumin. However, there is still a need for systematic and targeted clinical studies before curcumin can be used as the mainstream therapy for managing obesity.  相似文献

Pt–Ba/MeO (where MeO = Al2O3, CeO2, SiO2 and ZrO2) NO x storage-reduction catalysts with Ba-loading varying from 0 wt.% to 28 wt.% were investigated concerning stability of Ba phases and NO x storage-reduction efficiency. For Pt–Ba/Al2O3 three different Ba-containing phases with different thermal stability are distinguished based on their interaction with the support. The relative concentration of these phases varies with the Ba-loading and NO x storage tests indicated that the BaCO3 phase decomposing between 400 °C and 800 °C (LT-BaCO3) is the most efficient Ba containing phase for NO x storage. Similar investigations of Pt–Ba catalysts supported on CeO2, SiO2 and ZrO2 showed that the relative amount of LT-BaCO3 phase depends also on the support material. NO x storage measurements confirmed a correlation between the concentration of LT-BaCO3 and NO x storage efficiency. Basicity and textural properties of the support are identified as crucial parameters for efficient NO x storage catalysts.  相似文献

The glass transition temperature of a series of samples of the poly[(methyl methacrylate)‐co‐(ethyl acrylate)] copolymer, synthesized at low conversion, were calculated theoretically using the equations of Barton and Johnston. The values obtained are more precise when the probabilities of the compositional diads are derived from the 13C NMR data instead of the classical method utilizing reactivity ratios. This can be observed more clearly when the copolymer samples are synthesized at high conversion. Introduction of configuration (tacticity) at the diad level confirms the above observations and slightly improves the calculated values of Tg compared to the initial formulae which were only taking into account the compositional sequences of the copolymer. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Sintered negative electrodes for nickel-cadmium secondary cells were studied. Model electrodes prepared by means of three different impregnation methods were evaluated. Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) are one of the most abundant and critical components of the tumor stroma. CAFs can impact many important steps of cancerogenesis and may also influence treatment resistance. Some of these effects need the direct contact of CAFs and cancer cells, while some involve paracrine signals. In this study, we investigated the ability of head and neck squamous cell carcinomas (HNSCC) patient-derived CAFs to promote or inhibit the colony-forming ability of HNSCC cells. The effect of cisplatin on this promoting or inhibiting influence was also studied. The subsequent analysis focused on changes in the expression of genes associated with cancer progression. We found that cisplatin response in model HNSCC cancer cells was modified by coculture with CAFs, was CAF-specific, and different patient-derived CAFs had a different “sensitizing ratio”. Increased expression of VEGFA, PGE2S, COX2, EGFR, and NANOG in cancer cells was characteristic for the increase of resistance. On the other hand, CCL2 expression was associated with sensitizing effect. Significantly higher amounts of cisplatin were found in CAFs derived from patients who subsequently experienced a recurrence. In conclusion, our results showed that CAFs could promote and/or inhibit colony-forming capability and cisplatin resistance in HNSCC cells via paracrine effects and subsequent changes in gene expression of cancer-associated genes in cancer cells.  相似文献

The determination of pesticide residues in food matrices is a formidable challenge mainly because of the small quantities of analytes and large amounts of interfering substances which can be co-extracted with analytes and, in most cases, adversely affect the results of an analysis. However, safety concerns require that pesticides of the wide range of chemical properties (including acidic, basic and neutral) should be monitored. Because of the wide variety of food matrices, the sample must initially be cleaned up before final analysis. That is why the analytical chemist is faced with the need to devise new methodologies for determining such residues to be determined in a single analytical run. To accomplish the goal, QuEChERS methodology has been developed. It is a streamlined and effective extraction and cleanup approach for the analysis of diverse analyte residues in food matrices. So far, there have been achieved promising results by liquid or gas chromatography analysis, including pesticides, but also acrylamide, pharmaceuticals and veterinary drugs.  相似文献

A process of plasma‐initiated grafting of acrylic acid on commercial porous polypropylene membrane was studied. The influence of parameters of the plasma (power, gas pressure, time plasma‐sample distance, sample arrangement) and grafting (solvent composition, monomer concentration, time, inhibitor presence) on the degree of grafting, amount of homopolymer produced and surface electrical resistance was determined. A degree of grafting up to 18 mmol/g was obtained, which resulted in sample resistance as low as 30 mΩ cm2. The molecular weight of AAc homopolymer that can be assumed as equal to the MW of grafted chains, ranged from 25,000 to 50,000,000 da. SEM and water permeability measurements show that grafting causes filling of the pores, which, however, does not stop K+ ions from penetrating the membrane. The performance of nickel‐cadmium cells with acrylic acid grafted membranes as separator is also presented. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2010  相似文献

A convenient synthetic procedure for preparing nickel carboxylated phthalocyanine is reported. Upon further hydroxylation, such metal phthalocyanine moieties are incorporated into several melamine-based polyester high-solids systems and the structure—property correlations are examined. Molecular level spectroscopic FTIR analysis and mechanical testing are correlated in an effort to establish structure—property relations in these coatings. It is found that the presence of metal phthalocyanine macrocycle as a cross-linking agent enhances such properties as adhesion, hardness, and impact resistance. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献
