This article describes the implementation of early warning feature in an over-current protection module designed for limiting the surge-current in communication applications. The early warning signal is generated by a surge-current sensor and a temperature sensor mounted on the protection module. Described solution decreases fault latency and consequently improves the efficiency of the on-line fault detection mechanism. It can be used for diagnostic on-line monitoring in dependable adaptive computing systems.  相似文献

The sulfated polysaccharide obtained from a species of red microalga has proved to be a potent antiviral agent against various members of the herpes family. In the present study, we used microscopic Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) to investigate differences between normal cells, those infected with herpes viruses, and infected cells treated with red microalgal polysaccharide. FT-IR enables the characterization of cell or tissue pathology based on characteristic molecular vibrational spectra of the cells. The advantage of microscopic FT-IR spectroscopy over conventional FT-IR spectroscopy is that it facilitates inspection of restricted regions of cell cultures or tissue. Our results showed significant spectral differences at early stages of infection between infected and noninfected cells, and between infected cells treated with the polysaccharide and those not treated. In infected cells, there was an impressive decrease in sugar content and a considerable increase in phosphate levels in conjunction with the infection progress. Our results also proved that sugars penetrated and accumulated inside cells treated with the red microalgal polysaccharide. These could have been sugar fragments of low molecular weight present in the polysaccharide solution, despite purification by dialysis. Such sugar accumulation might be responsible for a breakdown in the internal steps of the viral replication cycle.  相似文献

The emergence of proteomics has placed great interest in the understanding of the mechanisms of MS/MS fragmentation of peptides under low-energy collision-induced dissociation. In this work, we describe the presence of anomalous fragments, which correspond to neutral loss elimination of internal amino acids from ions of the b series in quadrupole ion trap MS/MS spectra from naturally occurring peptides. Internal amino acid elimination occurred preferentially with aliphatic amino acids. The phenomenon was more apparent when doubly charged precursors were fragmented and was inhibited when peptides were N-acetylated at the N-terminus. Fragmentation of isomeric peptides where some internal amino acids were relocated in N-terminal position produced MSn spectra indistinguishable from those of the original peptides, indicating that some b ions underwent a structural rearrangement process. Formation of anomalous fragments required a minimum activation time. Our data are consistent with a nucleophile attack of the N-terminal nitrogen over the electrophilic carbonyl carbon at one peptide bond, forming a cyclic b ion intermediate that, by reopening at preferential sites, exposes internal amino acids to the C-terminal side.  相似文献

We compare the three basic algorithms for model-based clustering on high-dimensional discrete-variable datasets. All three algorithms use the same underlying model: a naive-Bayes model with a hidden root node, also known as a multinomial-mixture model. In the first part of the paper, we perform an experimental comparison between three batch algorithms that learn the parameters of this model: the Expectation–Maximization (EM) algorithm, a winner take all version of the EM algorithm reminiscent of the K-means algorithm, and model-based agglomerative clustering. We find that the EM algorithm significantly outperforms the other methods, and proceed to investigate the effect of various initialization methods on the final solution produced by the EM algorithm. The initializations that we consider are (1) parameters sampled from an uninformative prior, (2) random perturbations of the marginal distribution of the data, and (3) the output of agglomerative clustering. Although the methods are substantially different, they lead to learned models that are similar in quality.  相似文献

Objective: To investigate the attitudes of terminally ill individuals toward the legalization of euthanasia or physician-assisted suicide (PAS) and to identify those who would personally desire such a death. Design: In the Canadian National Palliative Care Survey, semistructured interviews were administered to 379 patients who were receiving palliative care for cancer. Patients who expressed a desire for physician-hastened death were followed prospectively. Main Outcome Measures: Attitudes toward the legalization of euthanasia or PAS were determined, as was the personal interest in receiving a hastened death. Demographic and clinical characteristics were also recorded, including a 22-item structured interview of symptoms and concerns. Results: There were 238 participants (62.8%) who believed that euthanasia and/or PAS should be legalized, and 151 (39.8%) who would consider making a future request for a physician-hastened death. However, only 22 (5.8%) reported that, if legally permissible, they would initiate such a request right away, in their current situations. Objective: The Resources for Health trial evaluates a social-ecologically based lifestyle (physical activity and diet) intervention targeting low-income, largely Spanish-speaking patients with multiple chronic conditions. Design: A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 200 patients recruited from an urban community health center and assigned to intervention and usual care conditions. Intervention involved 2 face-to-face, self-management support and community linkage sessions with a health educator, 3 follow-up phone calls, and 3 tailored newsletters. Main Outcome Measures: Primary outcomes measured at 6-months were changes in dietary behavior and physical activity. Changes in multilevel support for healthy living were evaluated as a secondary outcome. Results: After adjustment for age, sex, language, and number of chronic conditions, significant intervention effects were observed for dietary behavior and multilevel support for healthy lifestyles but not for physical activity. Conclusion: The Resources for Health intervention provides an effective and practical model for improving health behavior among low-income, Spanish-speaking patients with multiple chronic conditions. Nowadays, the disposal of plastic waste is an issue of major concern worldwide because of its considerable volume and growth. An option to tackle this problem is to recycle this waste. This alternative reduces the quantity of net discards, conserves both material and energy and provides a comparatively simple way to make a substantial reduction in the overall volume of solid waste. The purpose of this study is to investigate an environmentally friendly approach about the influence of recycling different percentages of urban and rural plastic waste by adding them in a dry process on an asphalt mixture, through a comparative laboratory study. The resulting mixtures are analyzed considering their volumetric parameters and the values from diverse laboratory mechanical tests. The performance tests include, Marshall stability, Marshall quotient, indirect tensile strength, fracture energy, resilient modulus, permanent deformation and creep compliance, which were carried out on unmodified and modified hot asphalt mixtures. The obtained results are presented and discussed in this paper showing that the reuse of recycled plastics in asphalt mixtures is a viable alternative that contributes to the reduction of plastic wastes as well as the protection of the environment.  相似文献

In this work, we examine the classic problem of robot navigation via visual simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM), but introducing the concept of dual optical and thermal (cross-spectral) sensing with the addition of sensor handover from one to the other. In our approach we use a novel combination of two primary sensors: co-registered optical and thermal cameras. Mobile robot navigation is driven by two simultaneous camera images from the environment over which feature points are extracted and matched between successive frames. A bearing-only visual SLAM approach is then implemented using successive feature point observations to identify and track environment landmarks using an extended Kalman filter (EKF). Six-degree-of-freedom mobile robot and environment landmark positions are managed by the EKF approach illustrated using optical, thermal and combined optical/thermal features in addition to handover from one sensor to another. Sensor handover is primarily targeted at a continuous SLAM operation during varying illumination conditions (e.g., changing from night to day). The final methodology is tested in outdoor environments with variation in the light conditions and robot trajectories producing results that illustrate that the additional use of a thermal sensor improves the accuracy of landmark detection and that the sensor handover is viable for solving the SLAM problem using this sensor combination.  相似文献

Prognosis of B-Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (B-CLL) remains a challenging problem in medical research and practice. While the parameters obtained by flow cytometry analysis form the basis of the diagnosis of the disease, the question whether these parameters offer additional prognostic information still remains open. In this work, we attempt to provide computer-assisted support to the clinical experts of the field, by deploying a classification system for B-CLL multiparametric prognosis that combines various heterogeneous (clinical, laboratory and flow cytometry) parameters associated with the disease. For this purpose, we employ the na?ve-Bayes classifier and propose an algorithm that improves its performance. The algorithm discretizes the continuous classification attributes (candidate prognostic parameters) and selects the most useful subset of them to optimize the classification accuracy. Thus, in addition to the high classification accuracy achieved, the proposed approach also suggests the most informative parameters for the prognosis. The experimental results demonstrate that the inclusion of flow cytometry parameters in our system improves prognosis.  相似文献
