Cell wall cross‐linking can have a substantial effect on the properties of the wall. To estimate cross‐linking (between arabinoxylans) in cereal fibres, dehydrodiferulate levels were measured in soluble and insoluble dietary fibre (SDF and IDF) isolated from whole grains of maize (Zea mays L), wheat (Triticum aestivum L), spelt (Triticum spelta L), rice (Oryza sativa L), wild rice (Zizania aquatica L), barley (Hordeum vulgare L), rye (Secale cereale L), oat (Avena sativa L) and millet (Panicum miliaceum L). After saponification of the cereal fibres the extracts were investigated for dehydrodimers of ferulic acid using GLC–MS and GLC–FID. From most cereal IDF the whole spectrum of dehydrodiferulic acids (DFAs) (8‐5′‐, 8‐8′‐, 5‐5′‐, 8‐O‐4′‐ and 4‐O‐5′‐coupled) could be identified. The absolute contents of total DFAs ranged between 2.4 and 12.6 mg g?1. With the exception of 4‐O‐5′‐coupled DFA, the whole range of DFAs was also detected from cereal SDF but only in amounts of 40–230 µg g?1. It was estimated that arabinoxylans of cereal IDF contain 8–39 times more diferulates than arabinoxylans of cereal SDF (where measurement of DFA levels in SDF was possible). In cereal IDF, 8‐5′‐coupled dimers dominated, whereas in cereal SDF, 8‐8′‐coupled dimers were relatively enhanced and often became the major dimers. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

The effect of suspension ageing time during the catalyst precipitation process on the performance of co-precipitated Cu/ZnO/ZrO2 catalysts in methanol synthesis from CO2 and H2 has been studied. The ageing time influenced greatly the physical and chemical characteristics of the catalysts as well as their activity in the methanol synthesis. Prolonged ageing was advantageous, mainly due to both lower sodium contents and enhanced crystallinity of the catalysts.  相似文献

The efficiency of twin‐screw extrusion process to fibrillate cellulose fibers into micro/nanosize in the same step as the compounding of green bionanocomposites of thermoplastic starch (TPS) with 10 wt % fibers was examined. The effect of the processing setup on micro/nanofibrillation and fiber dispersion/distribution in starch was studied using two types of cellulose fibers: bleached wood fibers and TEMPO‐oxidized cellulose fibers. A composite with cellulose nanofibers was prepared to examine the nanofiber distribution and dispersion in the starch and to compare the properties with the composites containing cellulose fibers. Optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and UV/Vis spectroscopy showed that fibers were not nanofibrillated in the extrusion, but good dispersion and distribution of fibers in the starch matrix was obtained. The addition of cellulose fibers enhanced the mechanical properties of the TPS. Moisture uptake study revealed that the material containing TEMPO‐oxidized fibers had higher moisture absorption than the other composites. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J. Appl. Polym. The experimental operation of a terabit-per-second scale optoelectronic connection to a silicon very-large-scale-integrated circuit is described. A demonstrator system, in the form of an optoelectronic crossbar switch, has been constructed as a technology test bed. The assembly and testing of the components making up the system, including a flip-chipped InGaAs-GaAs optical interface chip, are reported. Using optical inputs to the electronic switching chip, single-channel routing of data through the system at the design rate of 250 Mb/s (without internal fan-out) was achieved. With 4000 optical inputs, this corresponds to a potential aggregate data input of a terabit per second into the single 14.6 /spl times/ 15.6 mm CMOS chip. In addition 50-Mb/s data rates were switched utilizing the full internal optical fan-out included in the system to complete the required connectivity. This simultaneous input of data across the chip corresponds to an aggregate data input of 0.2 Tb/s. The experimental system also utilized optical distribution of clock signals across the CMOS chip.  相似文献

The remote field eddy current technique is used for dimensioning grooves that may occur in ferromagnetic pipes. We propose a method to estimate the depth and the length of corrosion grooves from the measurement of a pick-up coil signal phase at different positions close to the defect. Groove dimensioning needs the knowledge of the physical relation between measurements and defect dimensions; therefore, finite-element calculations are performed to obtain a parametric algebraic function of the physical phenomena. The parameters of this model function are obtained by an optimization technique. By means of this model and a previously defined general approach, an estimate of groove size may be given. In this approach, algebraic function parameters and groove dimensions are linked through a polynomial function. To validate this estimation procedure, a statistical study has been performed. The approach is proved to be suitable for real measurements.  相似文献

The repressor activator protein 1 (RAP1) plays a role in telomere structure and function inS. cerevisiae. Here, the RAP1 homologue was identified and cloned from the budding yeast Saccharomyces castellii (scasRAP1). The scasRAP1 gene encodes a protein of 826 amino acids and shares an overall high degree of similarity with the S. cerevisiae RAP1 (scerRAP1). We demonstrate that the scasRAP1 is able to complement scerRAP1 in temperature-sensitive S. cerevisiae strains and is able to function as a regulator to maintain the original telomere lengths. Binding analyses of the E. coli-expressed scasRAP1 protein demonstrate that it needs two consecutive telomeric repeats in order to bind the S. castellii telomeric DNA sequences, and that it binds adjacent sites having a 16 bp centre-to-centre spacing. The binding affinity to telomeric DNA of several other yeasts is similar to that of scerRap1p. However, in contrast to scerRap1p, scasRap1p was found to bind the human telomeric sequence. Moreover, the scasRap1p was found to incorporate a variant repeat in its binding to the otherwise homogeneous telomeric DNA of S. castellii. This ability to bind various sites differing in DNA sequence indicates a high degree of adjustability in the binding of scasRap1p to DNA.  相似文献

Several companies have developed their own company-specific models for ergonomic improvements. This study aims to describe and identify factors supporting and hindering the implementation and application of one such corporate model for ergonomic assessment and improvement. The model has been developed by Volvo Car Corporation and implemented at an assembly plant in G?teborg, Sweden. The model is unique as it is intended to be used by production engineers and safety representatives in cooperation. The process for assessment of musculoskeletal risks is standardised and participatory, which also supports identification of solutions. Interviews, questionnaires, observation and document studies were used to evaluate the use of the model. The model was found to improve participation and collaboration among stakeholders; provide a more effective ergonomic improvement process; visually represent the ergonomics situation in the company; and give legitimacy to and awareness of ergonomics. However, the model was found to be rather resource demanding and dependent on support from management and unions. In particular, a substantial training programme and regular use of the model are needed.  相似文献

Summary: Silica‐supported single‐site catalysts show limitations with respect to catalyst homogeneity and maximum metal content. A novel emulsion‐based catalyst heterogenization concept is described, which allows these limitations to be overcome. The method produces catalyst particles with an inherently perfect spherical shape and unique intra‐ and inter‐particle homogeneity. The catalyst particles are very compact and have a low surface area. Video microscopic studies confirm that the improved catalyst homogeneity leads to a more uniform polymerization behavior on a single particle level. The catalysts contain significantly more complex, compared to silica‐supported catalyst systems, which leads to correspondingly higher catalyst activities. No differences, in terms of the mass‐transfer kinetics of these low‐porosity catalysts, compared to porous catalyst systems have been observed.

This paper presents a high-accuracy online calibration method for the absolute extrinsic parameters of a stereovision system that is suited for far-distance, vision-based vehicle applications. The method uses as prior knowledge the intrinsic parameters and the relative extrinsic parameters (relative position and orientation) of the two cameras, which are calibrated using offline procedures. These parameters remain unchanged if the two cameras are mounted on a rigid frame (stereo rig). The absolute extrinsic parameters define the position and orientation of the stereo system relative to a world coordinate system. They must be calibrated every time after mounting the stereo rig in the vehicle and are subject to changes due to static load factors for the used car setup. The proposed method is able to perform online the estimation of the absolute extrinsic parameters by driving the car on a flat and straight road, parallel with the longitudinal lane markers. The edge points of the longitudinal lane markers are extracted after a 2-D image classification process and reconstructed by stereovision in the stereo-rig coordinate system. After filtering out the noisy 3-D points, the normal vectors of the world coordinate system axes are estimated in the stereo-rig coordinate system by 3-D data fitting. The output of the method is the height and the orientation of the stereo cameras that are relative to the world coordinate system.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to produce biodegradable polylactic acid/cellulose whisker nanocomposites by compounding extrusion and investigate the possibility to use polyvinyl alcohol to improve the dispersion of whiskers in the matrix. Two feeding methods of polyvinyl alcohol and cellulose nanowhiskers were used and evaluated, dry-mixing with polylactic acid prior extrusion or pumping as suspension directly into the extruder. Various microscopic techniques, tensile testing, and dynamic mechanical thermal analysis were used to study the structure and properties of the nanocomposites. Due to immiscibility of the polymers, phase separation occurred with a continuous polylactic acid phase and a discontinuous polyvinyl alcohol phase. The whiskers were primarily located in the polyvinyl alcohol phase and only a negligible amount was located in the polylactic acid phase. This inadequate dispersion of whiskers in the polylactic acid phase was probably the reason why no improvements in thermal properties were seen for the nanocomposites. The relative small improvements in tensile modulus, tensile strength, and elongation to break for the nanocomposites also indicated that it was principally the polyvinyl alcohol phase that was reinforced with whiskers but not the polylactic acid phase.  相似文献
