The existence of spectro-temporal receptive fields and evidence for population coding in auditory cortex motivate the development
of such models, that explicitly operate in the time-frequency domain and are based on a pulsed neural network. In presenting
such a model, a formal connection of the fields of Time Frequency Analysis and Pulsed Neural Networks is established. The
resulting neural time-frequency signal representation is shown to be representable as a signal-dependent overcomplete dictionary.
It is derived from neural population coding. Signal decomposition and filtering effects are presented, indicating obvious
technical applications of the proposed model.

High hydrostatic pressure (HHP) becomes more and more interesting for life science research, since it can be employed to inactivate various cells. To directly monitor "cells under pressure," the development of an optical high-pressure chamber is required. Therefore, an optical pressure chamber that can be used for up to 300 MPa was constructed. This chamber has already been described as a tool for in situ observation of dynamic changes of microscopic structures in bright field as well as phase contrast. In combination with an inverted microscope, we obtained brilliant microscopic color pictures with an optical resolution more than 0.56 microm. Here, we demonstrate the capabilities of the HHP cell, in combination with epifluorescence microscopy. Using a nonadherent human B-cell line (Raji, ATCC CCL 86), stained with the fluorescent dyes propidium iodide, Hoechst 33342, or dihexyloxacarbocyanine iodide, we were able to show that the system is suitable to perform fluorescence microscopic analyses, with pressures up to 300 MPa, with viable mammalian cells. 相似文献

For dynamically measuring position in three degrees of freedom laser tracking systems are well known. Up to now no possibility to measure also orientation using the same laser beam has been known. We present a technique to incorporate orientation measurement into a laser tracking system that requires only minor changes in the existing hardware. The method is based on the analysis of an image of the reflected laser beam intensity distribution. In this image the edges of a slightly modified retroreflector represent a function of the orientation of the end-effector holding the retroreflector. It is shown that from this image the orientation can be determined uniquely and in real time.
A laser tracking system including position and orientation measurement constitutes an instrument to accurately determine robot performance as well as to acquire hints on how to improve robot models and control algorithms. 相似文献

Abstract We show how many-body ground state entanglement information may be extracted from sub-system energy measurements at zero temperature. A precise relation between entanglement and energy fluctuations is demonstrated in the weak coupling limit. Examples are given with the two-state system and the harmonic oscillator, and energy probability distributions are calculated. Comparisons made with recent qubit experiments show this type of measurement provides another method to quantify entanglement with the environment. 相似文献

Fusarium head blight (FHB) of small cereals is a disease of global importance with regard to economic losses and mycotoxin contamination harmful to human and animal health. In Germany, FHB is predominantly associated with wheat and F. graminearum is recognised as the major causal agent of the disease, but little is known about FHB of barley. Monitoring of the natural occurrence of FHB on Bavarian barley revealed differences for individual Fusarium spp. in incidence and severity of grain infection between years and between spring and winter barley. Parallel measurement of fungal DNA content in grain and mycotoxin content suggested the importance of F. graminearum in winter barley and of F. langsethiae in spring barley for FHB. The infection success of these two species was associated with certain weather conditions and barley flowering time. Inoculation experiments in the field revealed different effects of five Fusarium spp. on symptom formation, grain yield and mycotoxin production. A significant association between fungal infection of grain and mycotoxin content was observed following natural or artificial infection with the type B trichothecene producer F. culmorum, but not with the type A trichothecene-producing species F. langsethiae and F. sporotrichioides. Trichothecene type A toxin contamination also occurred in the absence of significant damage to grain and did not necessarily promote fungal colonisation. 相似文献
