Gallium was removed selectively from aqueous solutions containing zinc or aluminum using sodium di-(n-octyl) phosphinate as a ligand (NaL). At low pH or low mole ratios, the gallium was removed by complexation with the ligand as GaL(3(S)), while the zinc or the aluminum remained in the solution. Nearly complete separation of gallium was obtained. By increasing the amount of ligand or by increasing the pH, the zinc or aluminum remaining in the solution was then removed as a solid complex: ZnL(2(S)) or AlL(3(S)), respectively. At a pH between 1.5 and 2 and a mole ratio ligand to total metals of 0.75 for zinc solutions and 1.0 for aluminum solutions, more than 98% of the gallium was selectively removed with a high molar selectivity, alpha(Ga/Zn) and alpha(Ga/Al), respectively. Over 95% of gallium was recovered from the solid GaL(3(S)) complex by treatment of the complex with a 3M NaOH solution and diethyl ether. The gallium was concentrated in the aqueous solution to 4 times its initial concentration and the ligand was extracted into the ether phase. After evaporation of the ether, 95% of the ligand was regenerated in its sodium form as a solid.  相似文献

This paper considers the potential of geographic information systems as a tool for the analysis of the socioeconomic environment. To obtain the maximum benefit from spatial data, it is necessary to find a structure which allows analysis at a wide range of scales, and this is a severe limitation to conventional vector-based systems. Raster models may be constructed that overcome many of these difficulties. This approach serves to illustrate a number of ways in which GIS can be used as a basis for spatial statistics and modeling of socioeconomic phenomena.  相似文献

ABSTRACT The paper describes a new approach to the graphical analysis of cancer data. A Geographical Analysis Machine is built which simultaneously solves the problems of post hot: hypothesis testing, handling data errors, and the task of generating and evaluating hypotheses in an exploratory environment. The methodology is demonstrated by reanalyzing cancer data for Northern England in such a way that for the first time the complex universe of all geographical hypotheses is enumerated, evaluated, and all the significant cancer clusters displayed.  相似文献

Kurzfassung Im Labor wurden verschiedene Größen (pH-Wert, HCO 3 —Gehalt, Präsenz von Fe(OH) 3 ) untersucht, von denen angenommen werden konnte, dass sie die umweltrelevante Freisetzung von Uran aus Gesteinen (z. B. Haufwerken, Halden, Tailings) im neutralen und schwach basischen pH-Bereich (6 bis 9) beeinflussen. Hierzu wurde der Austrag von U nat aus einem schwach vererzten Urangestein (2,31 %) in Batchversuchen untersucht. Diese Versuche wurden mit 8, 10 oder 40 g/l Gestein und Leitungs- bzw. Mineralwasser durchgeführt. Zum Vergleich wurden parallele Standversuche in deionisiertem Wasser, 0,1 M Na 2 CO 3 und 0,1 M H 2 SO 4 durchgeführt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen eine Begünstigung der Uranfreisetzung in Anwesenheit von Carbonat (gelöst oder in situ durch Dolomitauflösung entstanden), während die Rolle des Pyrits auf die Freisetzung deutlich komplexer ist. Das Erreichen eines Gleichgewichtszustands kann unter Umständen durch sorptive Einflüsse verzögert werden.
Investigations for the release of Unat from ore bearing rock under natural near oxic conditions
Abstract The effects of carbonate concentration and the presence of iron hydroxide phases on uranium release into the environment were investigated under oxic conditions and in the pH range from 6 to 9. For this purpose not-shaken batch experiments were conducted with a constant amount (8, 10 or 40 g/l) of a uranium bearing rock and different types of water (deionised, tap and mineral water). For comparison parallel experiments were conducted with 0.1 M Na 2 CO 3 and 0.1 M H 2 SO 4 . The use of dolomite confirmed the favourable role of carbonate bearing minerals for U transport while the presence of pyrite on Uranium mobilisation was shown to be considerably more complex. This study shows that the approach of equilibrium conditions can be strongly delayed by sorption processes.

Justifying a high-speed rail project: social value vs. regional growth   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
This article establishes a relationship between the net present value (NPV) of a High-Speed Rail (HSR) project and its social value, its transportation consumers‘ surplus (TCS) and its regional economic impact in terms of growth. First, it is shown that if the NPV is positive, it may generate growth even if no bottleneck exists. Second, when shadow-pricing and externalities are included in the calculations, and the HSR demand has been forecasted by a multinomial logit model, the NPV differs from its net economic impact. For instance, one variant of the project, though acceptable, reduces growth elsewhere in the economy. Decision-making is then in a quandary. Received: April 1996 / Accepted: May 1996  相似文献

A new mathematical model based on the cinetical Langmuir equation is developed to interpret and predict the effectiveness of simazine (SZ) removal in immobilized-biomass reactor (IBR), to consider herbicide-support affinity (Cx), and herbicide-cell affinity (Cy). Three solid supports: sepiolite monolith, granular sepiolite, and alginate were used in pilot-scale reactors that were inoculated with Klebsiella planticola DSZ. The abiotic process was analysed by measuring the SZ sorption capacity of the reactor supports. Sepiolite monolith showed the maximum value for herbicide-support affinity (28.02+/-0.9%). The effectiveness of the biotic process was estimated considering the formation of biomass and SZ biodegradation. Granular sepiolite showed either higher affinity with SZ and viability rate (0.90) throughout the process, and SZ removal rate was 3.39+/-0.06 mg/h. The mathematical model presented in this paper provides useful insights into the interpretation of experimental data as well as prediction for the implementation of biological reactors.  相似文献

Objective

Current magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) axon diameter measurements rely on the pulsed gradient spin-echo sequence, which is unable to provide diffusion times short enough to measure small axon diameters. This study combines the AxCaliber axon diameter fitting method with data generated from Monte Carlo simulations of oscillating gradient spin-echo sequences (OGSE) to infer micron-sized axon diameters, in order to determine the feasibility of using MRI to infer smaller axon diameters in brain tissue.

Materials and methods

Monte Carlo computer simulation data were synthesized from tissue geometries of cylinders of different diameters using a range of gradient frequencies in the cosine OGSE sequence . Data were fitted to the AxCaliber method modified to allow the new pulse sequence. Intra- and extra-axonal water were studied separately and together.

Results

The simulations revealed the extra-axonal model to be problematic. Rather than change the model, we found that restricting the range of gradient frequencies such that the measured apparent diffusion coefficient was constant over that range resulted in more accurate fitted diameters. Thus a careful selection of frequency ranges is needed for the AxCaliber method to correctly model extra-axonal water, or adaptations to the method are needed. This restriction helped reduce the necessary gradient strengths for measurements that could be performed with parameters feasible for a Bruker BG6 gradient set. For these experiments, the simulations inferred diameters as small as 0.5 μm on square-packed and randomly packed cylinders. The accuracy of the inferred diameters was found to be dependent on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), with smaller diameters more affected by noise, although all diameter distributions were distinguishable from one another for all SNRs tested.

Conclusion

The results of this study indicate the feasibility of using MRI with OGSE on preclinical scanners to infer small axon diameters.

The effects of Lignosite#rm lignosulfonate, a refined lignosulfonate product that is obtained from the sulfite pulping process, on growth and survival of plants were investigated. Following applications of 0, 7500, 15,000 and 22,500 cm3#shm2 to 32 plots within a forest plantation, the following were monitored: (1) live aboveground biomass of vascular plants, (2) growth of Douglar fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii) and (3) lignosulfonate migration through the soil profile. Live aboveground biomass of woody vegetation was not affected, and that of herbaceous plants was significantly decreased only at the two greatest application rates. Growth of the Douglas fir trees was not significantly affected. Lignosulfonates disappeared from the soil profile at the same rate regardless of initial concentration. Although it is not practical to use this material as a herbicide in western Washington, land application of lignosulfonates may be environmentally more attractive than traditional disposal methods.  相似文献

The paper describes the application of the DHSS formula to 27 completed construction projects comprising four types - steel-framed low rise buildings, new build housing developments, housing refurbishment projects, and multi-house ‘pre-paint’ maintenance contracts. Application of the formula to individual projects indicates that the ‘best’ parameter values offer a ten-fold improvement over the published values based on project size. Similar results occur when using the best parameter values for other two parameter models.

Various approaches are considered in attempting to predict the best parameter values of the models based on known characteristics of the project. A multiple linear regression with project value, duration, and type independent variables is shown not to produce any significant improvement on standard DHSS formula predictions. However, a reduction in the number of independent variables by cross validation produces an approximately 25% improvement on standard DHSS formula forecasts outside the data base. Examination of the models derived from this analysis indicate the type of project to be of major importance.  相似文献

Landscape and law cross-influence each other. Legal rules shape landscapes, while landscapes shape the culture from which rules emerge. In describing this interplay, landscape can seem passive, as a canvas on which laws paint visions of society; or active, as a matrix for the creation of law and culture. An alternative view is suggested: landscapes are opportunities for action, fields within which individuals interact with context in a mutually adaptive relationship. Lawyers are specialized constituents of this adaptation. Lawyers' acts and practices help to constitute the adaptations that shape a given landscape. A teaching module in which it was sought to prompt law students to become aware of the adaptive role of lawyering in landscape is described. The results suggest useful theoretical and methodological insights into landscape as a field of human activity, and the need for further study of lawyering as a force in the construction of landscape.  相似文献
