The artificial materials for bone implant applications are gaining more importance in the recent years. The series titania‐chitosan‐chondroitin 4–sulphate nanocomposites of three different concentrations (2:1:x, where x ‐ 0.125, 0.25, 0.5) have been synthesised by in situ sol–gel method and characterised by various techniques. The particle size of the nanocomposites ranges from 30–50 nm. The bioactivity, swelling nature, and the antimicrobial nature of the nanocomposites were investigated. The swelling ability and bioactivity of the composites is significantly greater and they possess high zone of inhibition against the microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. The cell viability of the nanocomposites were evaluated by using MG‐63 and observed the composites possess high cell viability at low concentration. Temporarily flooded areas can produce enormous numbers of floodwater mosquitoes, causing tremendous nuisance to people living in the vicinity. The aim of this study is to develop a remote-sensing method for detecting temporary flooded areas that can produce floodwater mosquitoes. For this objective, synthetic aperture radar (SAR) imagery from the European Remote Sensing satellite (ERS-2) and the Environmental Satellite (Envisat) are chosen. The images cover both flooded and dry periods around Lake Färnebofjärden, located in the lowlands of the River Dalälven, central Sweden, during the vegetation season between 2000 and 2006. Unsupervised classification and principal component analysis (PCA) are tested as methods for detecting floodwater mosquito production sites. In the unsupervised classification experiment, four types of images are tested. The classification of a synthetic colour image gives the best result with an overall accuracy of 85.7% and a kappa value of 0.7, as well as a 46% detection rate of field-mapped flooded areas. PCA is performed on a data set of 16 time series radar images. The resulting principal component (PC) bands provide information about flooding probability as well as vegetation structures. Regular flooding increases the probability for an area to provide breeding sites for floodwater mosquitoes. Thus, this approach will be very useful in estimating the risk of floodwater mosquito establishment.  相似文献

In regression models not only the parameter estimates and significances of explanatory variables are of interest, but also the degree to which variation in the dependent variable can be explained by covariates. In recent publications, an R(2) measure based on deviance was recommended for Poisson regression models, one of the most frequently used modelling tools in epidemiological studies. However, when sample size is small relative to the number of covariates in the model, simple R(2) measures may be seriously inflated and may need to be adjusted according to the number of covariates in the model. We present a SAS-macro that calculates adjustments for the R(2) measures in Poisson regression models based on log-likelihood and on sums of squares. The proposed measures are applied to real data sets and their performance is discussed.  相似文献

In intermediate risk hormone receptor (HR) positive, HER2 negative breast cancer (BC), the decision regarding adjuvant chemotherapy might be facilitated by multigene expression tests. In all, 142 intermediate risk BCs were investigated using the PAM50-based multigene expression test Prosigna® in a prospective multicentric study. In 119/142 cases, Prosigna® molecular subtyping was compared with local and two central (C1 and C6) molecular-like subtypes relying on both immunohistochemistry (IHC; HRs, HER2, Ki-67) and IHC + tumor grade (IHC+G) subtyping. According to local IHC, 35.4% were Luminal A-like and 64.6% Luminal B-like subtypes (local IHC+G subtype: 31.9% Luminal A-like; 68.1% Luminal B-like). In contrast to local and C1 subtyping, C6 classified >2/3 of cases as Luminal A-like. Pairwise agreement between Prosigna® subtyping and molecular-like subtypes was fair to moderate depending on molecular-like subtyping method and center. The best agreement was observed between Prosigna® (53.8% Luminal A; 44.5% Luminal B) and C1 surrogate subtyping (Cohen’s kappa = 0.455). Adjuvant chemotherapy was suggested to 44.2% and 88.6% of Prosigna® Luminal A and Luminal B cases, respectively. Out of all Luminal A-like cases (locally IHC/IHC+G subtyping), adjuvant chemotherapy was recommended if Prosigna® testing classified as Prosigna® Luminal A at high / intermediate risk or upgraded to Prosigna® Luminal B.  相似文献

Epigenetics play a vital role in early embryo development. Offspring conceived via assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) have a three times higher risk of epigenetic diseases than naturally conceived children. However, investigations into ART-associated placental histone modifications or sex-stratified analyses of ART-associated histone modifications remain limited. In the current study, we carried out immunohistochemistry, chip-sequence analysis, and a series of in vitro experiments. Our results demonstrated that placentas from intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), but not in vitro fertilization (IVF), showed global tri-methylated-histone-H3-lysine-4 (H3K4me3) alteration compared to those from natural conception. However, for acetylated-histone-H3-lysine-9 (H3K9ac) and acetylated-histone-H3-lysine-27 (H3K27ac), no significant differences between groups could be found. Further, sex -stratified analysis found that, compared with the same-gender newborn cord blood mononuclear cell (CBMC) from natural conceptions, CBMC from ICSI-boys presented more genes with differentially enriched H3K4me3 (n = 198) than those from ICSI-girls (n = 79), IVF-girls (n = 5), and IVF-boys (n = 2). We also found that varying oxygen conditions, RNA polymerase II subunit A (Polr2A), and lysine demethylase 5A (KDM5A) regulated H3K4me3. These findings revealed a difference between IVF and ICSI and a difference between boys and girls in H3K4me3 modification, providing greater insight into ART-associated epigenetic alteration.  相似文献

This study focuses on the structure, morphology, and properties of linear polyethylene (PE) profiles manufactured by continuous extrusion. High level of chain orientation was achieved using specific flow and processing conditions. An extrusion die with semihyperbolic convergency was used to generate high percentage of elongational flow and chain extension. Simultaneously, high extrusion pressure and relatively low melt temperature led to flow‐induced crystallization of PE extended chains. We theoretically compare the scattering and near field of nanoparticles from different types of materials, each characterized by specific optical properties that determine the interaction with light: metals with their free charge carriers giving rise to plasmon resonances, dielectrics showing zero absorption in wide wavelength ranges, and semiconductors combining the two beforehand mentioned properties plus a band gap. Our simulations are based on Mie theory and on full 3D calculations of Maxwell’s equations with the finite element method. Scattering and absorption cross sections, their division into the different order electric and magnetic modes, electromagnetic near field distributions around the nanoparticles at various wavelengths as well as angular distributions of the scattered light were investigated. The combined information from these calculations will give guidelines for choosing adequate nanoparticles when aiming at certain scattering properties. With a special focus on the integration into thin film solar cells, we will evaluate our results.  相似文献

Objective

This paper introduces a new approach permitting for the first time a specific, non-invasive diagnosis of myocarditis by visualizing the infiltration of immune cells into the myocardium.

Materials and methods

The feasibility of this approach is shown in a murine model of viral myocarditis. Our study uses biochemically inert perfluorocarbons (PFCs) known to be taken up by circulating monocytes/macrophages after intravenous injection.

Results

In vivo 19F MRI at 9.4 T demonstrated that PFC-loaded immune cells infiltrate into inflamed myocardial areas. Because of the lack of any fluorine background in the body, detected 19F signals of PFCs are highly specific as confirmed ex vivo by flow cytometry and histology.

Conclusion

Since PFCs are a family of compounds previously used clinically as blood substitutes, the technique described in our paper holds the potential as a new imaging modality for the diagnosis of myocarditis in man.  相似文献

Conformation and Rotation Barriers of Substituted Glyoxylic Acid Amides Semiempirical calculations predict an orthogonal orientation of the carbonyl groups in tertiary glyoxylic acid amides, which is in good agreement with an X-ray structure analysis of 5 . Due to the influence of the α-carbonyl group, the rotation barrier in the substituted glyoxylic acid amides 2a–d, 3a, 3b , and 4–6 (ΔG#c = 84–92 kJ mol−1) is about 10 kJ/mol higher than in simple acid amides, as was found by dynamic NMR line shape analysis.  相似文献
