The static and dynamic magnetic properties of W-type hexaferrites are tuned to meet the requirements of wide band frequencies for attenuation of electromagnetic interference and microwave absorptions purposes. For this purpose, the W-type hexaferrite of entirely new composition of BaCoZnFe16−2yAlyCeyO27 (y = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.0) has been synthesized by the chemical co-precipitation. The material is characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The complex permittivity (?r = ?′ − j?″) and permeability (μr = μ′ − jμ″) spectra are determined using Vector Network Analyzer (VNA) in a range from 0.5 GHz to 10 GHz. During this study, it is noticeable that the Al3+ and Ce3+ ions have considerable effect on the shape of the nanoparticles. Samples having Al-Ce contents y = 0.2 and y = 0.4 showed large values for magnetization (70.5 emu/g) and remanent magnetization (32.9 emu/g). In addition, more than 99% absorption (>−20 dB) is noted for this sample composition. Based on these results it is concluded that the microwave absorption characteristics of these compounds can be tuned for the required frequency by varying the thickness of the absorber. Due to this reason, potential employment of the synthesized nanoparticles for absorption of electromagnetic radiations at wide frequency band of 0.5-10 GHz has been proposed. 相似文献

To obtain practical information on the electroelastic behavior of poly-l-lactic acid microtweezers or catheters, a previously constructed analytical technique is used to obtain the electroelastic field solution of a poly-l-lactic acid cylindrical fiber exposed to a local electric field, which is applied through an opposed pair of square-sectioned electrodes. The numerical representation of the solution reveals the detailed field quantity distributions, their importance in the design of microtweezers and catheters, the overall deformation of such devices, and the effects of the electrode dimensions on the deformation. 相似文献

We developed a laser induced incandescence–mass spectrometric analyzer (LII-MS) for online measurements quantifying the aerosol chemical compositions with respect to the mixing state of black carbon (BC). The LII-MS is developed as a tandem series comprising an LII chamber to detect and vaporize BC-containing particles and a particle trap laser desorption mass spectrometer (PT-LDMS: Takegawa et al. 2012). The PT-LDMS collects aerosol particles transferred from the LII chamber and quantifies the chemical compositions. A newly designed collection probe, coupled with the sheath-air inlet nozzle of the LII chamber, enables a high throughput of aerosol particles without significant dilution. Total aerosol particles can be analyzed in the PT-LDMS by turning off the laser (MS mode), and the aerosol particles externally mixed with BC can be analyzed by turning on the laser (LII-MS mode). The difference in the PT-LDMS signals between the MS and LII-MS modes yields the chemical composition of materials internally mixed with BC. Performance of the developed instrument was evaluated in the laboratory by generating BC particles internally-mixed with oleic acid (OL) and BC particles externally mixed with ammonium sulfate particles. Preliminary results from ambient measurements are also presented and discussed.

Poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) is among the most widely used conjugated polymers for opto-electronic applications. To enhance its properties, researchers have attempted to nanostructure this polymer using various processes including breath figure arrays, nanolithography and elaborated organic synthesis. We here demonstrate a simple process to nanostructure the conjugated polymer using self-assembly with polystyrene and selective removal of one of the phases. The influence of the molecular weight of each polymer on the thin film morphology was systematically studied by atomic force microscopy. Using this approach, we observe two types of nanostructure, namely, nanoporous and nanoisland structures, of which the dimensions can be tuned by modifying the molecular weight of each polymer in the blend. This simple process introduces a cost-effective alternative to produce thin films of conjugated polymer with average nano-features from 100 nm up to 500 nm which could be used in a wide range of applications. 相似文献

The 36K protein attached at the 5′ end of the linear DNA plasmid pGKL2 from the yeast Kluyveromyces lactis was first purified and characterized. The terminal protein was purified from cells (1 kg wet weight) by ammonium sulphate precipitation and two rounds of centrifugation to equilibrium in CsCl gradients. The pGKL2 was present only in the post-microsomal supernatant. Approximately 10 mg of the purified pGKL2 was recovered and digested with DNase I. The terminal protein (final ca. 0·8 mg) was homogeneous by electrophoresis and we determined the N-terminal amino acid sequence up to ten residues, showing that it existed in the cryptic N-terminal domain of pGKL2-ORF2 (DNA polymerase) sequence. 相似文献

The structure and rheological properties of binary blends of polycarbonate (PC) and polystyrene (PS) were investigated using various PS samples with different molecular weights, namely PS1k (Mw = 1,000), PS53k (Mw = 53,000), and PS240k (Mw = 240,000). The blends with PS53k and PS240k show phase-separated structures, whereas the blend with PS1k is miscible. The shear viscosity decreases greatly on addition of PS53k and PS240k, especially at high shear rates, which would be a great advantage at processing operations. Because the nonlinear response occurs in the small strain region for multilayered films of PC and PS240k, the origin of the significant viscosity drop for the phase-separated system is interfacial slippage at the phase boundary. 相似文献

Lettuce and spinach are increasingly implicated in foodborne illness outbreaks due to contamination by Escherichia coli O157:H7. While this bacterium has been shown to colonize and survive on lettuce leaf surfaces, little is known about its interaction with the roots of growing lettuce plants. In these studies, a microarray analyses, mutant construction and confocal microscopy were used to gain an understanding of structure and function of bacterial genes involved in the colonization and growth of E. coli O157:H7 on lettuce roots. After three days of interaction with lettuce roots, 94 and 109 E. coli O157:H7 genes were significantly up- and down-regulated at least 1.5 fold, respectively. While genes involved in biofilm modulation (ycfR and ybiM) were significantly up-regulated, 40 of 109 (37%) of genes involved in protein synthesis were significantly repressed. E. coli O157:H7 was 2 logs less efficient in lettuce root colonization than was E. coli K12. We also unambiguously showed that a ΔycfR mutant of E. coli O157:H7 was unable to attach to or colonize lettuce roots. Taken together these results indicate that bacterial genes involved in attachment and biofilm formation are likely important for contamination of lettuce plants with Shiga toxin-producing E. coli strains. 相似文献

Processability at extrusion coating and mechanical properties of the films obtained are investigated by means of linear and nonlinear rheological measurements and tensile tests for blends of polypropylene (PP) and linear low‐density polyethylene (LLDPE). Both materials are produced by metallocene catalyst. The processability of PP is found to be improved by the addition of LLDPE; the blend shows low level of motor torque and head pressure in an extruder and small level of neck‐in as compared with pure PP. Further, the anisotropy of ultimate tensile strength, which is prominent for PP, is reduced by blending with LLDPE. As a result, the blend having 20 wt % of LLDPE shows appropriate properties in the molten state for extrusion coating and in the solid state as a film. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. To design a consumer-oriented package that complements the taste and aroma of ready-to-drink chilled-cup coffee beverages by using the food kansei model, the effects of the diameter and the color of drinking straws as well as the cognition terms of coffee on consumer sensory characteristics and preferences were investigated. Variance and factor analyses of the sensory scores for chilled-cup coffee with milk and sugar using straws of different diameters, as rated by consumer panelists, extracted two perceived factors (F1, contribution ratio 36.5%, and F2, 28.6%). A two-dimensional plot of the average F1 and F2 scores of 123 panelists showed that the perceived characteristics of the same taste and aroma varied according to the straw diameter. An image investigation of different straw colors and another sensory evaluation using “black,” “brown,” and “green” straws were also performed. A principal component analysis of the image data revealed that the sensory characteristics of coffee with milk and sugar were imaged from the straw color. The second evaluation suggested that the images of straw colors affected the sensory characteristics. In addition, cluster and multiple-comparison analyses of Internet research data from consumers regarding the cognition terms for coffee exhibited three clusters representing the cognitive characteristics of terms by consumers and by developers and the differences of attractiveness degree on the cognition terms due to the consumers’ personal attributes.
