Plants are frequently attacked by herbivores and pathogens and therefore have acquired constitutive and induced defenses during the course of their evolution. Here we review recent progress in the study of the early signal transduction pathways in host plants in response to herbivory. The sophisticated signaling network for plant defense responses is elicited and driven by both herbivore-induced factors (e.g., elicitors, effectors, and wounding) and plant signaling (e.g., phytohormone and plant volatiles) in response to arthropod factors. We describe significant findings, illuminating the scenario by providing broad insights into plant signaling involved in several arthropod-host interactions.  相似文献

Guanosine, released extracellularly from neurons and glial cells, plays important roles in the central nervous system, including neuroprotection. The innovative DELFIA Eu‐GTP binding assay was optimized for characterization of the putative guanosine receptor binding site at rat brain membranes by using a series of novel and known guanosine derivatives. These nucleosides were prepared by modifying the purine and sugar moieties of guanosine at the 6‐ and 5′‐positions, respectively. Results of these experiments prove that guanosine, 6‐thioguanosine, and their derivatives activate a G protein‐coupled receptor that is different from the well‐characterized adenosine receptors.  相似文献

Neuropeptide?S (NPS) is a 20-amino acid peptide of great interest due to its possible involvement in several biological processes, including food intake, locomotion, wakefulness, arousal, and anxiety. Structure-activity relationship studies of NPS have identified key points for structural modifications with the goal of modulating NPS receptor (NPSR) agonist activity or achieving antagonism at the same receptor. Only limited information is available for nonpeptide NPSR antagonists. In the last year, several studies have been reported in literature which present various series of small molecules as antagonists of this receptor. The results allow a comparison of the structures and activities of these molecules, leading to the design of new ligands with increased potency and improved pharmacological and pharmacokinetic profiles. This work presents a brief overview of the available information regarding structural features and pharmacological characterization of published nonpeptide NPSR antagonists.  相似文献

PP/organoclay nanocomposites were prepared using different processing aids (EMCA and PPG), and their effects on the thermal and mechanical properties were evaluated by WAXD, TEM, SEM, DSC, and mechanical tests. This study helps to clarify the effects of processing aids on the organoclay surface and on the intercalation and exfoliation processes. Nanocomposites with elongated intercalated and partially exfoliated structures were obtained, mainly when C‐15A was used. The results for the mechanical properties showed that the processing aids increased the impact strength significantly (up to three times that of neat PP) but reduced the flexural modulus of PP nanocomposites. PPG, which is polar promoted wetting MMT surface, thus increasing its interlayer distance, mainly for PP/C‐20A nanocomposites. However, it reduced the interfacial adhesion between the clay and the matrix. Nanocomposites impact strength was improved, especially when the C‐15A organoclay was used, while were achieved better results with the C‐20A organoclay when EMCA was used. The larger the amount of processing aid added, the higher the impact strength, but the lower the flexural modulus of the nanocomposites. PPG caused debonding of the clay particles and increased the number of microvoids, generating more mechanisms to aid in the energy dissipation of the systems. EMCA promoted debonding of clay particles with the formation of fibrils, indicating stronger interactions between the clay and matrix. A slight nucleation effect for PP crystallization was observed, mainly when EMCA was used. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

We modified synthetic isoprene rubber by means of the in situ generation of silica particles through the sol–gel process starting from tetraethoxysilane (TEOS) as an inorganic oxide precursor. Different reaction conditions were investigated with variations in the initial TEOS content, the reaction time of the sol–gel process, and the presence of a coupling/surfactant agent (octyltriethoxysilane). Organic–inorganic hybrid materials with a silica content up to 70 phr were obtained with the complete conversion of TEOS to silica for a long enough sol–gel reaction time. A very homogeneous dispersion of silica particles was observed in all cases together with a very good adhesion between the filler and matrix. The size of the in situ generated silica was controlled by the appropriate addition of octyltriethoxysilane. Swelling and extraction tests and dynamic mechanical analysis indicated that the vulcanization process of isoprene rubber was perturbed by the sol–gel process; this led to a slight decrease in the crosslinking degree. However, a significant reinforcing effect due to the presence of silica particles was observed for all of the investigated samples. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Appl Polym Sci, 2011  相似文献

Using time-resolved reflectivity measurements on unaligned and aligned bundled single-wall carbon nanotubes with a pump energy of 1.55 eV, quasi-resonant with the second Van Hove singularity of semiconducting tubes, a positive sign of the transient reflectivity is detected in unaligned nanotubes. In contrast a negative sign is detected in aligned nanotubes. This discovery addresses a long-standing question showing that in unaligned nanotubes the stronger intertube interactions favor the formation of short-lived free charge carriers in semiconducting tubes. A detailed analysis of the transient reflectivity spectral response shows that the free carriers in the photo-excited state of semiconducting tubes move towards metallic tubes in about 400 fs.  相似文献

This article exploits the influence of rubber particle size (RPS) and rubber crosslinking on environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR) of high impact polystyrene (HIPS), with special interest on the influence of small rubber particles fraction. Three commercial HIPS of high ESCR were selected and four batches of HIPS were prepared in‐house, including samples based on high cis and very high viscosity polybutadiene (PB). Their morphologies were analyzed by low angle laser light scattering, optical microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy, and the samples were submitted to flexural ESCR tests with fatty agents. The ESCR to sunflower oil was found to increase with the reduction of the rubber particles fraction smaller than 1–2 micron. Results have also confirmed that an increase in RPS is the key parameter to promote ESCR, although there is limit for RPS to be effective on ESCR improvement. The reduction of small rubber particles fraction in HIPS was achieved by using a high cis PB, that promotes low grafting efficiency of polystyrene onto PB backbone because of the low content of 1,2 vinyl isomer. Besides the ESCR improvements, HIPS with high cis PB showed higher elastic modulus and impact resistance than HIPS containing medium cis PB, which is desired for thickness reduction in food packaging and refrigeration cabinets. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A cost‐effective design of photocatalytic reactor needs efficient contact of the polluted substance with the solid catalyst while uniformly irradiating the solid catalyst with light. In the present paper, an immobilized photocatalyst comprising TiO2 coated on Pyrex‐glass‐coils (abbreviated hereafter as TGC) was developed, and a flat‐plate photocatalytic reactor packed with TGC was designed. The reactor has some advantages such as low pressure drop, intensification of mass transfer; relatively uniform distribution of light radiation; high ratio of illuminated catalyst surface area to volume, and is flexible enough for large‐scale application. The radiation intensity distribution and the two‐flux model parameters were measured, and the two‐flux model was solved numerically. The experimental values were compared with the theoretical predictions. Good agreement was obtained with a maximum deviation about 10%. Finally, the two‐flux model described the radiation intensity distribution and local volumetric rate of energy absorption in the flat‐plate reactor packed with TGC. © 2002 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

An approximate solution of the film model in presence of volatile liquid reactants is presented for the case of a general van de Vusse-like reaction scheme and general power-law reaction rates. The solution is obtained in a closed-form and simply requires the numerical solution of a system of nonlinear equations. The developed approximate solution is valid for any reaction regime and any number of reactions taking place within the liquid him. The application to a CSTR is discussed; this also serves as a test of the accuracy of the approximate solution carried out by comparison with the complete film model solved via the orthogonal collocation method. The numerical studies show that the approximate solution can be used with confidence for the usual encountered rate laws and that the volatility of the liquid reactants affects the performance of the CSTR mostly at the intermediate value of the Halt a number.  相似文献
