The study investigates the thermo-mechanical properties of isotactic polypropylene (iPP) hybrid composites in reference to various amounts of particle- and fiber-shaped inorganic fillers. Three grades of hybrid composites were prepared as a function of filler amount: 5, 10, and 20 wt% and different ratios of glass fiber (GF) and calcium carbonate (CaCO3). The main objective is to describe the relationship between the hybridization efficiency and mechanical performance of polypropylene-based composites. The analysis of the thermo-mechanical properties of the composites shows that both the total amount of the filler and the ratio of GF and CaCO3 clearly influence the properties of the composites. Hybrid composites with the highest amount of the GF display improved thermo-mechanical stability. The presence of well-dispersed CaCO3 in the composites was found to improve elongation at break and Vicat softening temperature values. Even though it is glass fiber, which shows higher filler effectiveness and visibly reinforces the composite samples, causing an increase in tensile strength or reinforcing efficiency, replacing up to 50% of this filler with calcium carbonate does not result in a considerable deterioration of the properties of the material.  相似文献

Although the outcome has improved over the past decades, due to improved supportive care, a better understanding of risk factors, and intensified chemotherapy, pediatric acute myeloid leukemia remains a life-threatening disease, and overall survival (OS) remains near 70%. According to French-American-British (FAB) classification, AML is divided into eight subtypes (M0–M7), and each is characterized by a different pathogenesis and response to treatment. However, the curability of AML is due to the intensification of standard chemotherapy, more precise risk classification, improvements in supportive care, and the use of minimal residual disease to monitor response to therapy. The treatment of childhood AML continues to be based primarily on intensive, conventional chemotherapy. Therefore, it is essential to identify new, more precise molecules that are targeted to the specific abnormalities of each leukemia subtype. Here, we review abnormalities that are potential therapeutic targets for the treatment of AML in the pediatric population.  相似文献

The persistence of extreme poverty is increasingly attributed to dynamic interactions between biophysical processes and economics, though there remains a dearth of integrated theoretical frameworks that can inform policy. Here, we present a stochastic model of disease-driven poverty traps. Whereas deterministic models can result in poverty traps that can only be broken by substantial external changes to the initial conditions, in the stochastic model there is always some probability that a population will leave or enter a poverty trap. We show that a ‘safety net’, defined as an externally enforced minimum level of health or economic conditions, can guarantee ultimate escape from a poverty trap, even if the safety net is set within the basin of attraction of the poverty trap, and even if the safety net is only in the form of a public health measure. Whereas the deterministic model implies that small improvements in initial conditions near the poverty-trap equilibrium are futile, the stochastic model suggests that the impact of changes in the location of the safety net on the rate of development may be strongest near the poverty-trap equilibrium.  相似文献

Within this paper, it is explored how two-dimensional Ti2C sheets addition affects silicon carbide matrix composites in terms of the microstructure and mechanical properties. In order to consolidate the powder mixtures, powder metallurgy processing followed by Spark Plasma Sintering was performed to prepare the sinters. According to our knowledge, this is the first attempt to apply delaminated MXene phases as a reinforcing phases of ceramic matrix composites. The delaminated MXene phases were characterized using a high-resolution transmission microscope (HRTEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Significant improvement of the fracture toughness and hardness for the composites reinforced with 1.5?wt% 2D Ti2C compared to the reference sample were observed. It is expected that the applied reinforcing phase will have an influence on the fracture mechanism, and so this has also been investigated. Two of the main mechanisms of crack propagations (crack deflection and bridging) were observed.  相似文献

This article aims to check whether there has been a price bubble in the Polish major housing markets in recent years. To accomplish this goal, the log price-to-rent ratios in Polish provincial cities were analysed. In order to avoid incorrect conclusions, the log price-to-rent ratio using the instrumental variable estimation and ordinary least squares methods was decomposed into two components: fundamental and non-fundamental. The latter was then examined using the Phillips, Shi, and Yu procedure to detect explosive and downward movements. The results of the study showed that, in general, over 2011, actual log price-to-rent ratios in the analysed cities were below their fundamental values, i.e., a negative price bubble existed. However, more or less since the beginning of 2013, the surveyed markets have seen an increasing level of the non-fundamental component of the index under study, and its particularly explosive movements are visible in the first quarters of 2014. Finally, this analysis indicated future research directions and study implications for Polish policy-makers, housing investors, and households.

Our previous studies revealed that graphene had anticancer properties in experiments in vitro with glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) cells and in tumors cultured in vivo. We hypothesized that the addition of arginine or proline to graphene solutions might counteract graphene agglomeration and increase the activity of graphene. Experiments were performed in vitro with GBM U87 cells and in vivo with GBM tumors cultured on chicken embryo chorioallantoic membranes. The measurements included cell morphology, mortality, viability, tumor morphology, histology, and gene expression. The cells and tumors were treated with reduced graphene oxide (rGO) and rGO functionalized with arginine (rGO + Arg) or proline (rGO + Pro). The results confirmed the anticancer effect of graphene on GBM cells and tumor tissue. After functionalization with amino acids, nanoparticles were distributed more specifically, and the flakes of graphene were less agglomerated. The molecule of rGO + Arg did not increase the expression of TP53 in comparison to rGO, but did not increase the expression of MDM2 or the MDM2/TP53 ratio in the tumor, suggesting that arginine may block MDM2 expression. The expression of NQO1, known to be a strong protector of p53 protein in tumor tissue, was greatly increased. The results indicate that the complex of rGO + Arg has potential in GBM therapy.  相似文献
