The fatigue behavior of bolted joints is critical to failure for many applications due to the high notch effect. Among other parameters, the life-time is based on the influence of the surface system, consisting of coating and lubricant. Intended to consider the surface system in the design and dimensioning process of bolted joints systematic experimental investigations are carried out for an exemplary selected basecoat and various lubricant systems. The basis is given by fatigue tests supported by selected methods of material analysis for the fractographic evaluation. A reproducible method to determine the crack initiation as well as the crack propagation has been developed for the evaluation of lubricant systems. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate taxi drivers' superstition and risk perception of accidents as well as risk-taking in an urban area in South Africa. One hundred and thirty drivers of minibuses, so-called "taxis" were interviewed on the basis of: (1) a superstition scale; (2) a risk-taking scale; (3) a list of perceived causes of road traffic accidents. Drivers showed largely superstitious attitudes and expressed a high degree of risk-taking behavior.Superstition was positively correlated with the number of self-reported accidents the drivers had been involved in and the number of accidents they had witnessed. Path analysis revealed a direct path from superstition to accident involvement while the influence of formal education was negligible. Risk-taking was inversely correlated with driving experience and the number of accidents witnessed but not so with the number of accidents involved in. There was no clear pattern of associations between superstition and risk-taking and perceived causes of accidents. Superstition and risk-taking were slightly and inversely correlated with each other. It is concluded that superstition represents an attitude that is associated with a driver's accident risk, and further research on superstitious attitudes among South African drivers is advocated. 相似文献

Collective excitation of periodic arrays of metallic nanoparticles by coupling localized surface plasmon resonances to grazing diffraction orders leads to surface lattice resonances with narrow line width. These resonances may find numerous applications in optical sensing and information processing. Here, a new degree of freedom of surface lattice resonances is experimentally investigated by demonstrating handedness-dependent excitation of surface lattice resonances in arrays of chiral plasmonic crescents. The self-assembly of particles used as mask and modified colloidal lithography is applied to produce arrays of planar and 3D gold crescents over large areas. The excitation of surface lattice resonances as a function of the interparticle distance and the degree of order within the arrays is investigated. The chirality of the individual 3D crescents leads to the formation of chiral lattice modes, that is, surface lattice resonances that exhibit optical activity. 相似文献

SCIAMACHY (SCanning Imaging Absorption spectroMeter for Atmospheric CartograpHY) is a passive remote sensing spectrometer observing backscattered radiation from the atmosphere and the Earth's surface, in the wavelength range between 240 and 2380 nm. The instrument is onboard ENVironmental SATellite (ENVISAT) which was launched on 1 March 2002. The Medium Resolution Imaging Spectrometer (MERIS) is also one of the 10 instruments onboard the ENVISAT satellite. MERIS is a 68.5° field-of-view nadir-pointing imaging spectrometer which measures the solar radiation reflected by the Earth in 15 spectral bands (visible and near-infrared). It obtains a global coverage of the Earth in three days. Its main objective is to measure sea colour and quantify ocean chlorophyll content and sediment, thus providing information on the ocean carbon cycle and thermal regime. It is also used to derive the cloud top height, aerosol and cloud optical thickness, and water vapour column. The ground spatial resolution of the instrument is 260 m × 290 m. This paper is aimed at determining the cloud fraction in SCIAMACHY pixels (typically, 30 km × 60 km ground scenes) using MERIS observations and number of thresholds for MERIS top-of-atmosphere reflectances and their ratios. Thresholds utilize the fact that clouds are bright white objects having similar reflectances in the blue and red. The MERIS cloud fraction has been derived for a number of SCIAMACHY states with area of 916 km × 400 km. The results are compared with correspondent cloud fractions obtained using SCIAMACHY polarization measurement devices (PMDs). Large differences are found between cloud fractions derived using SCIAMACHY and MERIS measurements. It is recommended to use highly spatially resolved MERIS observations instead of SCIAMACHY PMD measurements to retrieve cloud fractions in SCIAMACHY pixels. The improvements advised will enhance SCIAMACHY trace gas and cloud retrievals in the presence of broken cloud fields. 相似文献

The authors found splenial lesions to be associated with left ear suppression in dichotic listening of consonant-vowel syllables. This was found in both a rapid presentation dichotic monitoring task and a standard dichotic listening task, ruling out attentional limitations in the processing of high stimulus loads as a confounding factor. Moreover, directed attention to the left ear did not improve left ear target detection in the patients, independent of callosal lesion location. The authors' data may indicate that auditory callosal fibers pass through the splenium more posterior than previously thought. However, further studies should investigate whether callosal fibers between primary and secondary auditory cortices, or between higher level multimodal cortices, are vital for the detection of left ear targets in dichotic listening. For the basic problem of scheduling a set of n independent jobs on a set of m identical parallel machines with the objective of maximizing the minimum machine completion time—also referred to as machine covering—we propose a new exact branch-and-bound algorithm.
