The effects of the fuel injection pressure on a heavy-duty diesel engine exhaust particle emissions were studied. Nonvolatile particle size distributions and gaseous emissions were measured at steady-state engine conditions while the fuel injection pressure was changed. An increase in the injection pressure resulted in an increase in the nonvolatile nucleation mode (core) emission at medium and at high loads. At low loads, the core was not detected. Simultaneously, a decrease in soot mode number concentration and size and an increase in the soot mode distribution width were detected at all loads. Interestingly, the emission of the core was independent of the soot mode concentration at load conditions below 50%. Depending on engine load conditions, growth of the geometric mean diameter of the core mode was also detected with increasing injection pressure. The core mode emission and also the size of the mode increased with increasing NOx emission while the soot mode size and emission decreased simultaneously.  相似文献

A full-wave Helmholtz model of continuous-wave (CW) ultrasound fields may offer several attractive features over widely used partial-wave approximations. For example, many full-wave techniques can be easily adjusted for complex geometries, and multiple reflections of sound are automatically taken into account in the model. To date, however, the full-wave modeling of CW fields in general 3D geometries has been avoided due to the large computational cost associated with the numerical approximation of the Helmholtz equation. Recent developments in computing capacity together with improvements in finite element type modeling techniques are making possible wave simulations in 3D geometries which reach over tens of wavelengths. The aim of this study is to investigate the feasibility of a full-wave solution of the 3D Helmholtz equation for modeling of continuous-wave ultrasound fields in an inhomogeneous medium. The numerical approximation of the Helmholtz equation is computed using the ultraweak variational formulation (UWVF) method. In addition, an inverse problem technique is utilized to reconstruct the velocity distribution on the transducer which is used to model the sound source in the UWVF scheme. The modeling method is verified by comparing simulated and measured fields in the case of transmission of 531 kHz CW fields through layered plastic plates. The comparison shows a reasonable agreement between simulations and measurements at low angles of incidence but, due to mode conversion, the Helmholtz model becomes insufficient for simulating ultrasound fields in plates at large angles of incidence.  相似文献

Cell-adhesion molecules (CAMs) are thought to play crucial roles in development and plasticity in the nervous system. This study tested for a role for cell adhesion and in particular, the recognition of two glycosyl epitopes (HNK-1 and oligomannoside) in the activity-driven sharpening of the retinotopic map formed by the regenerating retinal fibers of goldfish. HNK-1 is a prominent glycosyl epitope on many CAMs and extracellular matrix (ECM) molecules, including NCAM, L1, ependymin, and integrins, which have all been implicated in synaptic plasticity. To test for a role of HNK-1 in the sharpening process, we used osmotic minipumps to infuse HNK-1 antibodies for 7-21 days into the tectal ventricle starting at 18 days after optic nerve crush. Retinotopic maps recorded at 76-86 days postcrush showed a lack of sharpening similar to that seen previously with two antibodies to ependymin, an HNK-1-positive ECM component present in cerebrospinal fluid. The multiunit receptive fields at each point averaged 26 degrees versus 11-12 degrees in regenerates infused with control antibodies or Ringer's alone. The HNK-1 epitope also binds to the G2 domain of laminin to mediate neuron-ECM adhesion. To test for a role for laminin, a polyclonal antibody was similarly infused and also prevented sharpening to approximately the same degree. The results support a role for the HNK-1 epitope and laminin in retinotectal sharpening. The oligomannoside epitope (recognized by monoclonal antibody L3) on the CAM L1 interacts with NCAM on the same cell to promote stronger L1 homophilic interactions between cells. Both an L1-like molecule and NCAM are prominently reexpressed in the regenerating retinotectal system of fish. Infusion of oligomannosidic glycopeptides resulted in decreased sharpening, with multiunit receptive fields that averaged 22.7 degrees. Infusions of mannose-poor glycopeptides less prominently disrupted sharpening, with average multiunit receptive fields of 18 degrees. Thus, oligomannosidic glycans in particular may play a role in retinotopic sharpening. Blocking glycan-mediated interactions between CAMs and ECM molecules could decrease the extent of exploratory growth of retinal axon collaterals, preventing them from finding their retinotopic sites, or could interfere with L1 or NCAM and laminin binding at the synaptic densities preventing stabilization of retinotopically appropriate synapses. Together, these results support a prominent role for cell adhesion and glycan epitopes in visual synaptic plasticity.  相似文献

Hordatines are phenolic secondary metabolites typical of barley. Hordatines withstand at least moderate processing, and thus they are also found in barley malts and beer. So far, no published data on the hordatine content has been available in beers or different styles of beer. The aim of this study was to produce information on the total hordatine content in beers and statistically compare the hordatine content of different beer types. In the current study, hordatines were analysed in 208 beers by high‐performance liquid chromatography equipped with a diode array detector (HPLC‐DAD). The average total hordatine content of all beer samples was 5.6 ± 3.1 mg L?1 as p‐coumaric acid equivalents (PCAE), with a minimum values 0 to a maximum value 18.7 mg L?1 PCAE. The total hordatine content correlated positively to the alcohol content in lagers, ales, stouts and porters, but not in wheat beers. There was no statistically significant difference in hordatine content in different types of beer, excluding the non‐alcoholic group of beers. It is noteworthy that non‐alcoholic beers also contained hordatines. More research would be needed to understand how parameters, such as mashing, should be chosen in order to achieve maximum recovery of hordatines in wort and beer.  相似文献

Effects of systematic environmental factors and milk production and quality traits on milk coagulation properties (MCP), and on repeatability of those traits were estimated from 979 milk samples collected once a month over a period of 2 years from 83 Finnish Ayrshire cows. Estimation was based on a multitrait animal model and REML methodology. In addition, persistence of non-coagulation of milk in individual cows, and factors associated with it were established from a sub sample of 24 cows producing non-coagulating (NC) milk at least once. MCP were at their best during the first lactation, at the beginning and at the end of lactation, and during grazing seasons. Variation in MCP with systematic environmental factors was partly due to variation in composition and quality of milk, especially in pH and ln (somatic cell count, SCC). Coefficients of repeatability for milk coagulation time and curd firmness were 0.65 and 0.68. These estimates were of the same magnitude as those for protein content, but were higher than those for daily milk yield, fat content, pH, and SCC. Based on the repeatability estimates for the milk coagulation traits and effects of the environmental factors, cows should be sampled at least three times during a lactation to estimate reliably breeding values for the milk coagulation traits. A total of 10% of the milk samples did not coagulate in 30 min after addition of rennet. Cows that produced NC milk at least once (30% of the cows) could be classified into those that produced NC milk only a few times during a lactation and those that produced NC milk at almost every sampling. Based on logistic regression analyses, peak and mid-lactation, high milk yield, low protein and fat content and high pH increased the risk of non-coagulation of milk.  相似文献

Particle size distributions of light-duty vehicle brake wear debris are reported with careful attention paid to avoid sampling biases. Electrical low-pressure impactor and micro-orifice uniform deposit impactor measurements yield consistent size distributions, and the net particulate matter mass from each method is in good agreement with gravimetric filter measurements. The mass mean diameter of wear debris from braking events representative of urban driving is 6 microm, and the number-weighted mean is 1-2 microm for three currently used classes of lining materials: low metallic, semimetallic, and non-asbestos organic (NAO). In contrast, the wear rates are very material dependent, both in number and mass of particles, with 3-4 times higher emissions observed from the low metallic linings as compared to the semimetallic and NAO linings. Wind tunnel and test track measurements demonstrate the appearance of micron size particles that correlate with braking events, with approximately 50% of the wear debris being airborne for the test vehicle in this study. Elemental analysis of the wear debris reveals a consistent presence of the elements Fe, Cu, and Ba in both dynamometer and test track samples.  相似文献

We observed significant increases in the runoff output of total mercury (TotHg) and methyl mercury (MeHg) from a small spruce forest catchment (0.071 km2) after clear-cutting and soil treatment. Here we show that forest regeneration practices may act as an important additional source of TotHg and MeHg to forest lakes. TotHg and MeHg in runoff from two small forested catchments were monitored during the period 1994 to 2001. In the autumn of 1997, one of the catchments was clear-cut Soil preparation (mounding) was carried out in the autumn of 1998 and replanting in the summer of 1999. During the 3 years after the silvicultural treatment, medians of monthly flow-weighted TotHg and MeHg concentrations (12.02 ng L(-1) and 0.35 ng L(-1), respectively) and output loads (0.80-0.97 g km(-2) a(-1) and 0.011-0.036 g km(-2) a(-1), respectively) increased significantly compared to the 3 years calibration period (8.13 ng L(-1) and 0.15 ng 1(-1); 2.0-5.3 g km(-2) a(-1) and 0.11-0.16 g km(-2) a(-1), respectively). These results indicate that clear-cutting and/or soil treatment significantly increases the mobility of TotHg and MeHg accumulated in forest soil and may thus be an important factor for the total input of Hg to boreal freshwater ecosystems.  相似文献

Dated sediment cores and surface sediments were analyzed from the Gulf of Finland, a part of the Baltic Sea, to study the sources, levels, distribution, and total amounts of polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs). The gulf was found to be severely polluted, with PCDD/F sum concentrations as high as 101000 ng/kg and 479 ng/kg WHO-TEQ in dry weight. The source of pollution was the former manufacturing and use of a chlorophenol based wood preservative along the Kymijoki River. It was estimated thatthe impacted sedimentary area stretched a distance of 75 km away out from the coast and that the PCDD/F sum load attributed to the wood preservative source was 1770 kg of PCDD/Fs or 12.4 (+/-2.8) kg WHO-TEQ. The surface sediments contained 24-66% of the maximum concentrations present in the 1960-1970s, showing that the river still acts as a significant PCDD/F source and may contribute to the high levels in fish. Moreover, the reduced PCDD/F and PCB concentrations were partly due to the dilution by increased dry matter deposition. PCBs were uniformly distributed over the gulf, and the PCB load in the polluted area was 2020 kg or 0.14 kg WHO-TEG.  相似文献
