The primary goal of this study is to identify floodplains that are in large river basins and could potentially undergo renaturalization of their hydrologic functions. The study area is the Paraíba do Sul River Basin (55,400 km2), which is located in southeastern Brazil. The field work included the application of geoprocessing techniques (ArcGIS 10 and ENVI 4.7) for the delineation and individualization of the floodplain, and the following characteristics were surveyed: area, perimeter, circularity index and urbanization index. Discriminant and cluster analyses (SPSS 15) were performed, and 77 floodplains were found that exhibited a wide variation in area (0.13 to 1,540 km2) and perimeter (1.8 to 4,200 km), low circularity indices (<0.52), and a low average urbanization index (18.9 %). The floodplains were grouped according to how well the renaturalization of their hydrologic functions could be managed and categorized as follows: a) low management potential (9 units); b) medium management potential (15 units); and c) high management potential (52 units). The discriminant analysis correctly classified 100 % of the cases, which indicates that the model has a high predictive ability and can accurately classify the management potential of floodplains.  相似文献

Dual phosphorylation of proteins is a principal component of intracellular signalling. Bistability is considered an important property of such systems and its origin is not yet completely understood. Theoretical studies have established parameter values for multistationarity and bistability for many types of proteins. However, up to now no formal criterion linking multistationarity and bistability to the parameter values characterizing dual phosphorylation has been established. Deciding whether an unclassified protein has the capacity for bistability, therefore requires careful numerical studies. Here, we present two general algebraic conditions in the form of inequalities. The first employs the catalytic constants, and if satisfied guarantees multistationarity (and hence the potential for bistability). The second involves the catalytic and Michaelis constants, and if satisfied guarantees uniqueness of steady states (and hence absence of bistability). Our method also allows for the direct computation of the total concentration values such that multistationarity occurs. Applying our results yields insights into the emergence of bistability in the ERK–MEK–MKP system that previously required a delicate numerical effort. Our algebraic conditions present a practical way to determine the capacity for bistability and hence will be a useful tool for examining the origin of bistability in many models containing dual phosphorylation.  相似文献

Nonparametric neighborhood methods for learning entail estimation of class conditional probabilities based on relative frequencies of samples that are "near-neighbors" of a test point. We propose and explore the behavior of a learning algorithm that uses linear interpolation and the principle of maximum entropy (LIME). We consider some theoretical properties of the LIME algorithm: LIME weights have exponential form; the estimates are consistent; and the estimates are robust to additive noise. In relation to bias reduction, we show that near-neighbors contain a test point in their convex hull asymptotically. The common linear interpolation solution used for regression on grids or look-up-tables is shown to solve a related maximum entropy problem. LIME simulation results support use of the method, and performance on a pipeline integrity classification problem demonstrates that the proposed algorithm has practical value.  相似文献

Composites based on 3D woven fabrics offer excellent mechanical properties due to the nearly non-crimp reinforcement fibers. Additionally, a reduced number of process steps results from the 3D nature of the reinforcement. Their in-plane and out-of-plane behaviors are purposefully adjustable to the expected loading conditions. A previously introduced modelling approach is extended to the simulation of 3D woven fabrics. The tensile, shear and bending behaviors of the fabric are considered in a material formulation for large deformations using shell elements. The model is successfully validated and parameter studies show the significant influence of shear and bending parameters on forming results. Furthermore, it is shown that also the forming process parameters have a significant influence on the draping results. It is concluded that the shearing and wrinkling can be reduced to a minimum with adapted material and process parameters.  相似文献

Incorporation of catalyst atoms during the growth process of semiconductor nanowires reduces the electron mean free path and degrades their electronic properties. Aberration-corrected scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) is now capable of directly imaging single Au atoms within the dense matrix of a GaAs crystal, by slightly tilting the GaAs lattice planes with respect to the incident electron beam. Au doping values in the order of 10(17-18) cm(3) were measured, making ballistic transport through the nanowires practically inaccessible.  相似文献

The 3D structure reconstruction of gold core-silver shell nanoparticles by electron tomography is combined with optical dark-field spectroscopy. Electron tomography allows segmentation of the particles into core and shell subvolumes and facilitates avoiding Bragg diffraction artifacts inherent in 2D images. This advantage proves essential for accurate correlation of plasmon spectra and structure. We find that for the nanoparticles of near-spherical shape studied here the plasmon resonances depend on the relative size of the core and shell, rather than on their exact shapes and concentricity. A remarkable dependence of the spectral shape on the permittivity of the surrounding medium is also demonstrated, suggesting that core-shell nanoparticles can be used as ratiometric sensors with a very high dynamic range.  相似文献

Antifreeze proteins (AFPs) evolved in many organisms, allowing them to survive in cold climates by controlling ice crystal growth. The specific interactions of AFPs with ice determine their potential applications in agriculture, food preservation and medicine. AFPs control the shapes of ice crystals in a manner characteristic of the particular AFP type. Moderately active AFPs cause the formation of elongated bipyramidal crystals, often with seemingly defined facets, while hyperactive AFPs produce more varied crystal shapes. These different morphologies are generally considered to be growth shapes. In a series of bright light and fluorescent microscopy observations of ice crystals in solutions containing different AFPs, we show that crystal shaping also occurs during melting. In particular, the characteristic ice shapes observed in solutions of most hyperactive AFPs are formed during melting. We relate these findings to the affinities of the hyperactive AFPs for the basal plane of ice. Our results demonstrate the relation between basal plane affinity and hyperactivity and show a clear difference in the ice-shaping mechanisms of most moderate and hyperactive AFPs. This study provides key aspects associated with the identification of hyperactive AFPs.  相似文献

The study on heat transport in composites is of fundamental importance in engineering design and for tailoring thermal and mechanical behaviour of materials. In this study, the thermal conductivity and thermal diffusivity of flax reinforced polypropylene (PP) composites were determined at room temperature. Chemical modification in the form of a biodegradable zein coating was applied to the flax nonwovens. The effect of fibre loading and chemical modification on the thermo-physical properties was investigated. Dielectric permittivity studies were also evaluated and the dielectric constant of fibre reinforced composites was found to be higher than that of PP. The heat flow and crystallinity effects of the composites were also determined by differential scanning calorimetric (DSC) studies. Zein modification of the flax fibres resulted in a decrease of thermal conductivity and diffusivity which was attributed to a decrease in velocity and mean free path of phonons due to increase in interfacial adhesion.  相似文献
