The volumetric overall mass transfer coefficients have been measured in a pulsed packed extraction column using diffusion model for the toluene/acetone/water system. The experiments were carried out for both mass transfer directions. The effects of operational variables such as pulsation intensity and dispersed and continuous phases flow rates on volumetric overall mass transfer coefficients have been investigated. The experimental findings indicate that pulsation intensity and mass transfer direction have great influence on volumetric overall mass transfer coefficient. Significant, but weaker, are the effects of continuous and dispersed phase flow rates. The experimental results obtained in the present work are compared with some other types of extraction columns. Finally, two empirical correlations for prediction of the continuous phase overall mass transfer coefficient is derived in terms of Sherwood and Reynolds numbers. Good agreement between prediction and experiments was found for all operating conditions that were investigated.  相似文献

The present study examines the influence of different contents and types of process control agent (PCA), i.e., stearic acid (SA) and ethylene-bis-stearamide (EBS), on the microstructural evolution and characteristics of Ti-16Sn-4Nb (wt pct) alloy powders and bulk samples. The characterization of the powders and bulk samples was carried out by using chemical analysis, optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) combined with energy-dispersive spectrometry (EDS), and X-ray diffractometry. Results indicated that the powder recovered from the ball milling containers increased with increasing amounts of SA and EBS. Furthermore, adding more SA or EBS to the powder mixture resulted in a considerably smaller particle size, with a flaky-shaped morphology for the given ball milling time. Also, a slightly higher effectiveness was found for EBS when compared to SA. Meanwhile, the addition of both SA and EBS led to a delay in the alloy formation during mechanical alloying (MA) and caused contamination of the material with mainly carbon (C) and oxygen (O). An optimum amount of 1 wt pct PCA led to a good balance between cold welding and fracturing, and thus favored the formation of the titanium alloy. The microstructural observation of the bulk alloy showed a homogeneous distribution of fine Nb-rich β-phase colonies within the α-Ti matrix with the addition of PCA less than 1 wt pct.  相似文献

Metal complexation properties of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) in freshwaters are recognized but poorly understood. Here, we investigated the release of free nickel from Ni-DOC complexes using nickel-polluted freshwaters from Sudbury (Canada). We used the Competing Ligand Exchange Method with Chelex-100 as the competing ligand to measure the rate of free Ni2+ ion released by the dissociation of Ni-DOC complexes. The kinetic studies showed that the fastest kinetically distinguishable component representing approximately 30-95% of the total nickel had a dissociation rate coefficient similar to that reported for [Ni(H20)6]2+. High concentrations of Ca2+ and Mg2+ caused a larger amount of the DOC-bound nickel to be released as free Ni2+ ion. Growth inhibition of the freshwater alga Pseudokirchneriella subcapitata was highly correlated with the Ni/DOC ratio, the free plus labile nickel concentration, and the dissociation rate coefficient. While the levels of metals were not sufficient to kill Daphnia magna, these test organisms were immobilized in the same samples that showed algal growth inhibition. Only one sample caused 22% death of Hydra attenuata. The algal toxicity tests were consistent with the kinetic speciation results and are consistent with the hypothesis that dissolved [Ni(H20)6]2+ plus other labile nickel species are toxic forms of Ni present.  相似文献

In this paper, the exergetic performance of a continuous bioreactor for ethanol and acetate synthesis from syngas via a strictly anaerobic autotrophic bacterium Clostridium ljungdahlii was carried out for the first time. The fermentation process was evaluated using both conventional exergy and eco-exergy principles for measuring the productivity and renewability of the process at various liquid media flow rates. The microorganisms successfully upgraded the syngas into invaluable ethanol and acetate through the Wood–Ljungdahl pathway. The exergy efficiency was found to be in the range of 6.5–77.5 and 6.8–77.5 % during the fermentation using conventional exergy and eco-exergy concepts, respectively. The subtle differences observed in the exergetic parameters using the two exergetic concepts were ascribed to the slow growth rate of the microorganisms. Nevertheless, the eco-exergy concept would strongly be recommended for commercial bioreactor containing living organisms due to the inclusion of the information carried by microorganisms in the exergetic calculation. A desired liquid media flow rate of 0.55 mL/min was found according to a newly defined thermodynamic indictor namely exergetic productivity index. More specifically, the maximum exergetic productivity index of the fermentation process was found to be 8.0 using both approaches when the rate of inflow liquid was adjusted at the optimal value. The results of this study revealed that process yield alone cannot be a reliable performance metric for decision making on the productivity of various biofuel production pathways. Finally, the proposed exergetic framework could assist engineers and researchers to link biochemical and physical knowledge more robustly and to quantify and elucidate the general purpose of productivity and renewability.  相似文献

Due to the simultaneously superior optical transmittance and low electrical resistivity, transparent conductive electrodes play a significant role in semiconductor electronics. To enhance the electrical properties of these films, one approach is thickness increment which degrades the optical properties. However, a preferred way to optimize both electrical and optical properties of these layers is to introduce a buffer layer. In this work, the effects of buffer layer and film thickness on the structural, electrical, optical and morphological properties of AZO thin films are investigated. Al-doped zinc oxide (AZO) is prepared at various thicknesses of 100 to 300 nm on the bare and 100 nm-thick indium tin oxide (ITO) coated glass substrates by radio frequency sputtering. Results demonstrate that by introducing ITO as a buffer layer, the average values of sheet resistance and strain within the film are decreased (about 76 and 3.3 times lower than films deposited on bare glasses), respectively. Furthermore, the average transmittance of ITO/AZO bilayer is improved nearly 10% regarding single AZO thin film. This indicates that bilayer thin films show better physical properties rather than conventional monolayer thin films. As the AZO film thickness increases, the interplanar spacing, d(002), strain within the film and compressive stress of the film in the hexagonal lattice, decreases indicating the higher yield of AZO crystal. Moreover, with the growth in film thickness, carrier concentration and optical band gap (Eg) of AZO film are increased from 4.62?×?1019 to 8.21?×?1019 cm?3 and from 3.55 to 3.62 eV, respectively due to the Burstein-Moss (BM) effect. The refractive index of AZO thin film is obtained in the range of 2.24–2.26. With the presence of ITO buffer layer, the AZO thin film exhibits a resistivity as low as 6?×?10?4 Ω cm, a sheet resistance of 15 Ω/sq and a high figure of merit (FOM) of 1.19?×?104 (Ω cm)?1 at a film thickness of 300 nm. As a result, the quality of AZO thin films deposited on ITO buffer layer is found to be superior regarding those grown on a bare glass substrate. This study has been performed over these two substrates because of their significant usage in the organic light emitting diodes and photovoltaic applications as an enhanced carrier injecting electrodes.  相似文献

One of the most challenging tasks is deploying a wireless mesh network backbone to achieve optimum client coverage. Previous research proposed a bi-objective function and used a hierarchical or aggregate weighted sum method to find the best mesh router placement. In this work, to avoid the fragmented network scenarios generated by previous formulations, we suggest and evaluate a new objective function to maximize client coverage while simultaneously optimizing and maximizing network connectivity for optimal efficiency without requiring knowledge of the aggregation coefficient. In addition, we compare the performance of several recent meta-heuristic algorithms: Moth-Flame Optimization (MFO), Marine Predators Algorithm (MPA), Multi-Verse Optimizer (MVO), Improved Grey Wolf Optimizer (IGWO), Salp Swarm Algorithm (SSA), Grey Wolf Optimizer (GWO), Whale Optimization Algorithm (WOA), Harris Hawks Optimization (HHO), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Sine Cosine Algorithm (SCA), and Slime Mould Algorithm (SMA). We empirically examined the performance of the proposed function using different settings. The results show that our proposed function provides higher client coverage and optimal network connectivity with less computation power. Also, compared to other optimization algorithms, the MFO algorithm gives higher coverage to clients while maintaining a fully connected network.  相似文献

In this work, a second order asymptotic discrete sliding mode control with a fuzzy supervised discontinuous term is proposed. The on line variation of the discontinuous term amplitude enhances the convergence rapidity of the sliding function and reduces the chattering phenomenon. These improvements are shown by a numerical simulation and by a real time temperature control of a chemical reactor. Good performances in terms of chattering suppression and reaching phase duration's reduction are noted. The results of a comparison between the effects of sodium hydroxide and calcium hydroxide on poly(ethylene terephthalate) fabrics are presented. Calcium hydroxide can produce weight‐loss effects similar to an aqueous solution of sodium hydroxide. The effects of some treatment variables on weight loss, fiber diameter, bending rigidity, and strength of yarns taken from fabrics are examined. This study was aimed to examine the antioxidant (thiobarbituric acid reactive substances [TBARS], peroxide value [PV], and as well as antimicrobial (total bacterial count, Staphylococcus aureus [S. aureus], mold and yeast counts) activities and spoilage indices (total volatile base nitrogen [TVB-N]) of quinoa peptide-loaded liposomes incorporated into burger during 12 days of refrigerated storage. Among four prepared batches, the lowest TBARS, PV, and TVB-N values (0.281 ± 0.05 mg MDA/kg, 3.25 ± 0.34 mEq/kg and 18.65 ± 0.88%, respectively) were correlated with T3 treatment (5 mg/ml peptide). A significant different in the antimicrobial activity among each treatment after 12 days of storage was noted. At the end of refrigerated storage, the highest mean of total bacterial count, S. aureus, mold and yeast (8.36 ± 0.22, 4.19 ± 0.2, and 3.28 ± 0.05 log CFU/g, respectively) were observed in control group, while the lowest corresponded values (3.95 ± 0.2, 2.52 ± 0.25, and 1.52 ± 0.02 log CFU/g, respectively) were noted in T3 treatment. The results showed that the antimicrobial and antioxidant properties of the examined burgers were improved by incorporation of liposomes quinoa peptides encapsulated.  相似文献

Biosurfactants have a wide range of applications in different areas, including petroleum microbiology and environmental biotechnology. In this study, removing and recovering oil from oily sludge using microbactan-producing bacteria have been investigated. The best biosurfactant-producing isolate was obtained from a petroleum reservoir and was identified by 16S rDNA analysis as Microbacterium maritypicum ABR5. Its 16S rDNA sequence was deposited in GenBank, NCBI under the accession number MK100468. Chemical analysis using thin-layer chromatography and Fourier Transform Infrared confirmed that the produced biosurfactant was glycolipoprotein. The strain reduced surface tension from 72 to 34.6 mN m−1. The addition of 5 mg L ZnO nanoparticles to the biosurfactant-producing medium showed no bacterial toxicity effect and raised the emulsification index to 25.7%. Higher concentrations of ZnO nanoparticles, such as 10 and 100 mg L, decreased the bacterial growth rate and biosurfactant production. The mixing of M. maritypicum ABR5 culture medium and oily sludge increased the oil recovery from oily sludge by up to 70% after 5 days of incubation. This is the first report of biosurfactant production by a newly identified strain, M. maritypicum ABR5, isolated from a petroleum reservoir. We proposed that the isolated biosurfactant-producing strain could be considered an economical asset for oil recovery from oily sludge in the petroleum industry and environmental biotechnology.  相似文献
