Nature is a great source of inspiration for scientists, because natural systems seem to be able to find the best way to solve a given problem by using simple and robust mechanisms. Studying complex natural systems, scientists usually find that simple local dynamics lead to sophisticated macroscopic structures and behaviour. It seems that some kind of local interaction rules naturally allow the system to auto-organize itself as an efficient and robust structure, which can easily solve different tasks. Examples of such complex systems are social networks, where a small set of basic interaction rules leads to a relatively robust and efficient communication structure. In this paper, we present PROSA, a semantic peer-to-peer (P2P) overlay network inspired by social dynamics. The way queries are forwarded and links among peers are established in PROSA resemble the way people ask other people for collaboration, help or information. Behaving as a social network of peers, PROSA naturally evolves to a small world, where all peers can be reached in a fast and efficient way. The underlying algorithm used for query forwarding, based only on local choices, is both reliable and effective: peers sharing similar resources are eventually connected with each other, allowing queries to be successfully answered in a really small amount of time. The resulting emergent structure can guarantee fast responses and good query recall.  相似文献

We propose an original, complete and efficient approach to the allocation and scheduling of Conditional Task Graphs (CTGs). In CTGs, nodes represent activities, some of them are branches and are labeled with a condition, arcs rooted in branch nodes are labeled with condition outcomes and a corresponding probability. A task is executed at run time if the condition outcomes that label the arcs in the path to the task hold at schedule execution time; this can be captured off-line by adopting a stochastic model. Tasks need for their execution either unary or cumulative resources and some tasks can be executed on alternative resources. The solution to the problem is a single assignment of a resource and of a start time to each task so that the allocation and schedule is feasible in each scenario and the expected value of a given objective function is optimized. For this problem we need to extend traditional constraint-based scheduling techniques in two directions: (i) compute the probability of sets of scenarios in polynomial time, in order to get the expected value of the objective function; (ii) define conditional constraints that ensure feasibility in all scenarios. We show the application of this framework on problems with objective functions depending either on the allocation of resources to tasks or on the scheduling part. Also, we present the conditional extension to the timetable global constraint. Experimental results show the effectiveness of the approach on a set of benchmarks taken from the field of embedded system design. Comparing our solver with a scenario based solver proposed in the literature, we show the advantages of our approach both in terms of execution time and solution quality.  相似文献

Under natural viewing conditions, the physiological instability of visual fixation keeps the projection of the stimulus on the retina in constant motion. After eye opening, chronic exposure to a constantly moving retinal image might influence the experience-dependent refinement of cell response characteristics. The results of previous modeling studies have suggested a contribution of fixational instability to the Hebbian maturation of the receptive fields of V1 simple cells (Rucci, Edelman, & Wray, 2000; Rucci & Casile, 2004). This letter examines the origins of such a contribution. Using quasilinear models of lateral geniculate nucleus units and V1 simple cells, we derive analytical expressions for the second-order statistics of thalamocortical activity before and after eye opening. We show that in the presence of natural stimulation, fixational instability introduces a spatially uncorrelated signal in the retinal input, which strongly influences the structure of correlated activity in the model. This input signal produces a regime of thalamocortical activity similar to that present before eye opening and compatible with the Hebbian maturation of cortical receptive fields.  相似文献

The architecture is supported by the Athena Knowledge Representation and Semantics Mediation tool suite. One of the main limitations when accessing the web is the lack of explicit structure, whose presence may help in understanding data semantics. Schema for web data can be constructed at different levels, structuring a single pages or a whole site or group of sites. Here we present an approach to give a logical schema to a web-site, first defining a model for a single page, where its contents is divided into logical sections, i.e. parts of a page each collecting related information. Then, we introduce a site model in which both physical and logical links among different page sections are represented: physical are existing hyperlinks, while logical links are links between sections containing semantically related information. We show how such links can be found and classified according to their relevance, also showing how schema is used in a structure-aware browser to improve both browsing and searching.  相似文献

Coordinated multirobot exploration involves autonomous discovering and mapping of the features of initially unknown environments by using multiple robots. Autonomously exploring mobile robots are usually driven, both in selecting locations to visit and in assigning them to robots, by knowledge of the already explored portions of the environment, often represented in a metric map. In the literature, some works addressed the use of semantic knowledge in exploration, which, embedded in a semantic map, associates spatial concepts (like ‘rooms’ and ‘corridors’) with metric entities, showing its effectiveness in improving the total area explored by robots. In this paper, we build on these results and propose a system that exploits semantic information to push robots to explore relevant areas of initially unknown environments, according to a priori information provided by human users. Discovery of relevant areas is significant in some search and rescue settings, in which human rescuers can instruct robots to search for victims in specific areas, for example in cubicles if a disaster happened in an office building during working hours. We propose to speed up the exploration of specific areas by using semantic information both to select locations to visit and to determine the number of robots to allocate to those locations. In this way, for example, more robots could be assigned to a candidate location in a corridor, so the attached rooms can be explored faster. We tested our semantic-based multirobot exploration system within a reliable robot simulator and we evaluated its performance in realistic search and rescue indoor settings with respect to state-of-the-art approaches.  相似文献

In this paper we propose MicrelEye, a wireless video node for cooperative distributed video processing applications that involve image classification. The node is equipped with a low-cost VGA CMOS image sensor, a reconfigurable processing engine (FPGA, Microcontroller, SRAM) and a Bluetooth 100-m transceiver. It has a size of few cubic centimeters and its typical power consumption is approximately ten times less than that of typical commercial DSP-based solutions. As regards classification, a highly optimized hardware-oriented support vector machine-like (SVM-like) algorithm called ERSVM is proposed and implemented. We describe our hardware and software architecture, its performance and power characteristics. The case study considered in this paper is people detection. The obtained results suggest that the present technology allows for the design of simple intelligent video nodes capable of performing classification tasks locally.

The Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) is the de-facto standard for representing in a very expressive graphical way the processes occurring in virtually every kind of organization one can think of, from cuisine recipes to the Nobel Prize assignment process, incident management, e-mail voting systems, travel booking procedures, to name a few. In this work, we give an overview of BPMN and we present what are the links with other well-known machineries such as BPEL and XPDL. We give an assessment of how the OMG's BPMN standard is perceived and used by practitioners in everyday business process modeling chores.  相似文献
