A whole-field speckle strain sensor is presented. The speckle strain sensor allows the measurement of all three in-plane components of the strain field simultaneously without touching the surface of the sample. The strain fields are extracted from the in-plane motion of defocused laser speckles in a telecentric imaging system. To distinguish the contribution to the speckle motion from surface translation, rotation, and strain, the speckle motion from three lasers with different illumination directions and wavelengths has to be analyzed separately. Simultaneous acquisition of the three individual speckle patterns is achieved by means of splitting the light from the lasers onto separate but synchronized detectors with the aid of dichroic mirrors. The motion of the speckles is calculated with digital speckle photography (speckle correlation), which enables the strain sensor to measure strain fields with noise levels as low as 10 microstrain.  相似文献

The erosion-corrosion characteristics of a 2.25 Cr-1 Mo steel at low particle velocities and elevated temperatures were determined using a nozzle type laboratory erosion tester. The tests were performed with 180–360 μm angular alumina particles at 60° angle of impingement at low particle velocities of 2.6–8.2 m/s and in the temperature interval 20–600°C. The steel was tested both in the as-received condition as well as in two preoxidized conditions. The erosion-corrosion rate of the steel, both in the as-received and in the preoxidized conditions, was found to increase with increasing particle velocity. In contrast, the wastage rates were relatively independent of temperature in the temperature range investigated, the only exception being specimens exposed to the lowest particle velocity (2.6 m/s) at the very highest temperature, i.e. 600°C, which displayed a drastic increase in wastage. Specimens preoxidized at 700°C exhibited a somewhat higher erosion rate compared with non-preoxidized specimens and specimens preoxidized at 500°C. Microscopy revealed four different major wastage mechanisms, i.e. (i) plastic deformation, cracking and micro chipping of surface material of a size corresponding to the area impinged by eroding particles, (ii) chipping of somewhat larger oxide fragments (up to 10–15 μm in diameter), (iii) chipping or spalling of relatively large oxide fragments (up to 30–50 μm in diameter), and (iv) spalling along the steel-oxide interface or within an oxide layer due to cohesive failure, of larger (up to 500 μm in diameter) oxide layer fragments. In the present study extensive spalling was only observed for non-preoxidized specimens exposed to the lowest particle velocity (2.6 m/s) and the two highest specimen temperatures (550°C and 600°C).  相似文献

Chemical images     
Chemical sensors can be used to generate a vast amount of information about the emissions from bio- and chemical processes, from food and bacteria and from a number of products. These emissions are either wanted or should be avoided. Wolfgang Göpel was one of those who recognized early the large potential of chemical sensor arrays and different modes of operation of a given sensor. We describe how large area field effect devices, with catalytic metal gates, can be used for the construction of a response image of a gaseous emission. More specifically, we discuss the new possibilities obtained through the use of catalytic metals with a gradient in thickness. Some basic features of such sensing surfaces are demonstrated and, finally, time-dependent response images from aging meat are used to demonstrate the potential of the method used. It is based on a scanning light pulse technique (SLPT) which measures local polarization or work function changes in two dimensions and, e.g. a sensing surface consisting of bands of different catalytic metals with a gradient in thickness.  相似文献

Picea abies ). Several material parameters were also measured, such as spiral grain angle, shrinkage in all three directions, annual ring width and density. Twist in the studs was measured at four different times at different moisture contents. The amount of twist correlated well with the moisture content and was reversible throughout several moisture changes. When the moisture content decreased, the twist increased and vice versa. About 50% of the variation in twist could be explained by a single parameter, i.e. the average growth ring curvature. All studs with severe twist were cut with its centroid within a radius of 75 mm from the pith. A statistical analysis of the data shows that growth ring curvature and spiral grain angle together explained about 70% of the variation in twist. Other parameters, such as shrinkage strains, density and ring width, did not increase predictability. When using a model developed by Stevens and Johnston (1960), about 66% of the variation in twist could be explained. The model also explained twist quantitatively well. The model included curvature of the growth ring, spiral grain angle and the tangential shrinkage strain.

Mit abnehmender Feuchte stieg die Verdrehung und umgekehrt. Rund 50% der Verdrehungswerte sind durch einen einzigen Parameter erkl?rt, n?mlich die Jahrringkrümmung. Bei allen Kanth?lzern mit starker Verdrehung lag die Mittelachse innerhalb eines Abstandes von 75 mm von der Markr?hre. Die statistische Analyse ergab, da? Jahrringkrümmung und Faserwinkel zusammen ca. 70% der Variation der Verdrehung erkl?ren. Andere Parameter wie Schwindspannungen, Dichte und Jahrringbreite erh?hten die Vorhersagbarkeit nicht. Mit Hilfe des Modells von Stevens und Johnson (1960) konnten rund 66% der Verdrehung erkl?rt werden. Dieses Modell lieferte auch zufriedenstellende quantitative Ergebnisse. Berücksichtigt werden dabei Jahrringkrümmung, Faserwinkel und tangentiale Schwindspannung.

Continuous-valued recurrent neural networks can learn mechanisms for processing context-free languages. The dynamics of such networks is usually based on damped oscillation around fixed points in state space and requires that the dynamical components are arranged in certain ways. It is shown that qualitatively similar dynamics with similar constraints hold for anbncn , a context-sensitive language. The additional difficulty with anbncn , compared with the context-free language anbn , consists of 'counting up' and 'counting down' letters simultaneously. The network solution is to oscillate in two principal dimensions, one for counting up and one for counting down. This study focuses on the dynamics employed by the sequential cascaded network, in contrast to the simple recurrent network, and the use of backpropagation through time. Found solutions generalize well beyond training data, however, learning is not reliable. The contribution of this study lies in demonstrating how the dynamics in recurrent neural networks that process context-free languages can also be employed in processing some context-sensitive languages (traditionally thought of as requiring additional computation resources). This continuity of mechanism between language classes contributes to our understanding of neural networks in modelling language learning and processing.  相似文献

A three-dimensional model is proposed for modeling of microstructures. The model is based on the finite element method with periodic boundary conditions. The Voronoi algorithm is used to generate the geometrical model, which has a periodic grain structure that follows the original boundaries of the Voronoi cells. As an application, the model is used to model a two-phase ferrite/pearlite steel. It is shown that periodic cells with only five grains generate representative stress–strain curves.  相似文献

This paper addresses the issue of supporting knowledge acquisition using hypertext. We propose a way of tightly integrating hypertext and structured object representation, using Artificial Intelligence (AI) frames for the basic representation of hypertext nodes. Epistemologically, a dual view of the resulting space is of interest. One view is that of hypertext which emphasizes nodes containg g text, including formal knowledge representation. The other view focuses on objects with certain relationships, which define a semantic network. Both in hypertext and in semantic networks the relations between chunks of knowledge are explicitly represented by links. However, in today's hypertext systems a node typically contains just informal text and references to other nodes. Our approach additionally facilitates the explicit representation of structure “inside” hypertext nodes using partitions. We show the usefulness of such a tight integration for knowledge acquisition, providing several features useful for supporting it based on a level of basic hypertext functionality. In particular, we sketch a method for doing knowledge acquisition in such an environment. Hypertext is used as a mediating “semiformal” representation, which allows experts to directly represent knowledge without the immediate support of knowledge engineers. These help then to make this knowledge operational, supported by the system's facility to provide templates as well as their links to the semiformal representation. As an example of our results of using this method of knowledge acquisition, we illustrate the strategic knowledge in our application domain. More generally, our approach supports important aspects of (software) engineering knowledge-based systems and their maintenance. Also their user interface can be improved this way.  相似文献

Wireless is becoming a popular way to connect mobile computers to the Internet and other networks. The bandwidth of wireless links will probably always be limited due to properties of the physical medium and regulatory limits on the use of frequencies for radio communication. Therefore, it is necessary for network protocols to utilize the available bandwidth efficiently. Headers of IP packets are growing and the bandwidth required for transmitting headers is increasing. With the coming of IPv6 the address size increases from 4 to 16 bytes and the basic IP header increases from 20 to 40 bytes. Moreover, most mobility schemes tunnel packets addressed to mobile hosts by adding an extra IP header or extra routing information, typically increasing the size of TCP/IPv4 headers to 60 bytes and TCP/IPv6 headers to 100 bytes. In this paper, we provide new header compression schemes for UDP/IP and TCP/IP protocols. We show how to reduce the size of UDP/IP headers by an order of magnitude, down to four to five bytes. Our method works over simplex links, lossy links, multi‐access links, and supports multicast communication. We also show how to generalize the most commonly used method for header compression for TCP/IPv4, developed by Jacobson, to IPv6 and multiple IP headers. The resulting scheme unfortunately reduces TCP throughput over lossy links due to unfavorable interaction with TCP's congestion control mechanisms. However, by adding two simple mechanisms the potential gain from header compression can be realized over lossy wireless networks as well as point‐to‐point modem links.
