The preference for fistulae as the hemodialysis access of choice has led to a significant number of accesses that are less than ideal for cannulation. Buttonhole cannulation is ideal for such accesses, but the technique for creation provides major challenges. In 12 patients, buttonhole tunnel tracks were created by leaving the polyurethane catheter of a Clampcath® hemodialysis needle indwelling for 10 days after the initial cannulation. After each dialysis the catheter was flushed, and dressed with an antibacterial ointment and gauze. Dialysis was carried out via the catheter during that time. After day 10, the catheter was removed, the tunnel track covered with an antibacterial dressing and the tunnel track was cannulated with a dull buttonhole needle at the next dialysis. Successful buttonhole accesses were created in 11 patients after 10 days, the 12th patient required a single sharp needle cannulation before using dull needles. During the first 2 weeks of dull needle cannulation both pain experienced on cannulation and the difficulty cannulating the access were significantly less than in the classical buttonhole technique (P<0.01). Complications during the follow-up period (6 months–1.5 years) included difficulty cannulating with a dull needle (22) and antibacterial agent induced contact dermatitis (4). There was no episode of sepsis or tunnel track infection. Initial cannulation of the fistula using a Clampcath® hemodialysis needle, leaving the polyurethane catheter indwelling for 10 days, is a simple, safe, and effective technique for the creation of buttonhole tunnel tracks. 相似文献

A trial was carried out on seven Massese ewes, from which individual milk samples were taken during lactation. All the enzyme activities investigated (oxidase activity of xanthine oxidoreductase, gamma-glutamyltranspeptidase, alkaline phosphatase and 5′-nucleotidase) were affected by the lactation phase, with the exception of the dehydrogenase activity of xanthine oxidoreductase (XOR). A higher oxidase activity (XO) of XOR was found when the diameter of milk fat globules was smaller. In addition, the absence of XO in colostrum led to the hypothesis that its antibacterial role is independent of its activity. The increase in alkaline phosphatase activity during lactation requires further research to better define the criteria for pasteurised sheep milk. 相似文献

This paper describes a new and convenient methodology for studying the performance of products used in the treatment of ruminal acidosis. The method is based on potentiometric titration of the increase in buffer capacity and acid consuming capacity after the addition of products to a suitable medium at physiological rumen pH values. The testing medium is a mixture of buffer substances (phosphate, maleate and volatile fatty acids) that mimics real ruminal fluid in chemical composition, pH and temperature, providing useful experimental results allowing easy testing of antacids. This methodology was applied to the testing of four raw materials (sodium bicarbonate, two calcium carbonates and magnesium oxide). Surface lubrication is one of the essential technologies in modern magnetic disk systems and improvement of the surface lubrication is very important in the development of next generation systems. In this study, we used AFM for the direct observation of perfluoropolyether (PFPE) lubricant molecules on atomically flat surfaces. We used a cryogenic non-contact AFM to observe the molecules in a frozen state of micro-Brownian motion of PFPE segments, because the glass transition temperature of PFPE is very low. To avoid freezing a trace amount of water vapor on the sample surface at liquid nitrogen temperatures, the AFM observation was performed under ultra-high vacuum. We observed that on a gold surface the size of the molecules increases with repeated AFM scans. This is because the mechanical stimulus causes the fusion of PFPE lubricant molecules to form reversed micelles at the non-polar surface. At a hydrophilic silicon wafer surface, however, we succeeded in observing single lubricant molecules. This is because almost all PFPE lubricant molecules are fixed to the hydrophilic solid surface by polar–polar bond formation and they cannot move around on the surface and thus they cannot fuse to each other. As formation of the reversed micelle structure is a rather general phenomenon in the PFPE lubricant thin layer at non-polar surfaces, we also will discuss briefly the expected molecular structures of PFPE lubricants at the surface of the carbon overcoat of magnetic disks. 相似文献

Two different hydroxyapatites with the particle sizes of 3.9 and 1.69 μm were chosen. Slurries with initial hydroxyapatite concentration of 15 vol% were prepared. Different cooling rates from 2 to 14°C/min were utilized. The specimens were sintered at different temperatures of 1250–1350°C. The phase composition (by X‐Ray Diffraction), microstructure (by Scanning Electron Microscopy), mechanical characteristics, and the porosity of sintered samples were assessed. The porosity of the sintered samples was in range of ~57–83%, and the compressive strength varied from ~1.7 to 15 MPa. The mechanical strength of the scaffolds increased as a function of cooling rate and sintering temperature. 相似文献

In this work, the degradation phenomena and the release kinetics of an active molecule from matrices systems made of random copolymers of ε-caprolactone (CL) and l-lactide (LA) were investigated by exposing the matrices, shaped as thin films, to simulated physiological environments. α-tocopherol was incorporated into the films as hydrophobic model molecule with the aim to investigate both its release pattern and its effect on erosion phenomena. In particular, the films have been kept at controlled conditions (temperature, stirring, pH) and they were characterized in terms of weight loss, water uptake, thermal properties, and change of number average molecular weight, in order to explain the molecule release kinetics and the degradation pathways of the copolymers. The main findings of this study are that the erosion phenomena take place significantly only when a critical value of the molecular mass was obtained in the sample; that the presence of the drug stabilizes the matrix and it decreases the rate of molecular mass decrease; and that crystallinity, reducing the chain mobility, causes lower erosion rates. 相似文献

Tenobe somen (TS) noodles are traditional Japanese wheat-based noodles that are produced manually using a sophisticated method called tenobe (literally, "hand stretched"). In the tension test, both the tensile strength and extensibility of TS noodles were greater than those of machine-made (MS) noodles. In the biting test, the chewy texture of TS noodles was realized in the analysis of the force-deformation curves of each type of somen noodles. The creep test indicated a clear difference between the external and internal elasticity of TS noodles. The texture of TS noodles appeared to change dramatically during storage in the rainy season. In addition, firm and chewy textures of TS noodles stored for 20 mo were observed. Similar to the results from our previous study, TS noodles exhibited significantly higher dityrosine content than the flour used for their manufacture. However, the increase in the dityrosine content during the manufacturing process was not observed in the case of MS noodles. Although clear textural differences were observed between TS noodles stored for 0 and 20 mo, the dityrosine contents of TS noodles at each stage were not largely different. 相似文献

The objective of this paper is to investigate the conjugated heat transfer in a thick walled cavity filled with copper-water nanofluid. The analysis uses a two-dimensional rectangular enclosure under conjugated convective-conductive heat transfer conditions and considers a range of Rayleigh numbers. The enclosure was subjected to a constant and uniform heat flux at the left thick wall generating a natural convection flow. The thicknesses of the other boundaries are assumed to be zero. The right wall is kept at a low constant temperature while the horizontal walls are assumed to be adiabatic. A moveable divider is located at the bottom wall of the cavity. The governing equations are derived based on the conceptual model in the Cartesian coordinate system. The study has been carried out for the Rayleigh number in the range of 105 ≤ Ra ≤ 108, and for the solid volume fraction at 0 ≤ ? ≤ 0.05. Results are presented in the form of streamlines, isotherms, average Nusselt number and input heat absorption by the nanofluid. The effects of solid volume fraction of nanofluids, the location of the divider and also the value of the ambient convective heat transfer coefficient on the hydrodynamic and thermal characteristics of flow have been analyzed. An increase in the average Nusselt number was found with the solid concentration for the whole range of Rayleigh number. In addition, results show that the position of the divider and the ambient convective heat transfer coefficient have a considerable effect on the heat transfer enhancement. 相似文献
