A systematic study on the thin film morphology of heteroacenic derivatives such as indolo[2,3-a]carbazole and 11,12-dioctylindolo[2,3-a]carbazole has been carried out using scanning force microscopy and optical microscopy techniques. The investigation has comprised the preparation of a series of thin films by combining different solvents (dimethylformamide and tetrahydrofurane), substrates (glass, gold, silicon and aluminium) and deposition techniques (spin coating and thermal evaporation) we found a wide variety of self-assembled structures. In addition, conductivity measurements have been performed, showing a very large spread in conductivity values. Some of the samples give quite high conductivity while others conduct very poorly, even in the case of samples prepared with essentially the same conditions. These results indicate that morphology is very critical for the final conductivity of the thin films. In addition we conclude that for some of the films prepared the homogeneous thin film approximation must be revised otherwise obtained conductivity measurements lead to significant error. 相似文献

Fruits of Myrcianthes pungens Berg. Legr. (Myrtaceae), known as guabiju, are widely consumed fresh as well as dried, processed into jam, marmalade, and juices. In this study, chemical composition and antichemotactic and antioxidant activities of fruits from a wild type (GB) and 2 genotypes, PL2 and PL1, of guabiju were investigated. Total anthocyanins for the genotypes ranged from 334 to 531 mg/100 g dry weight (dwt). Total flavonoids and polyphenols ranged from 79.8 to 154 mg/100 g and 2438 to 4613 mg/100 g (dwt), respectively. A reversed phase liquid chromatography method with photodiode array detection was used to determine chemical profiles of the main anthocyanins found in the extracts. An HPLC method for the quantification of flavonoids is proposed, providing a simple procedure with rapid sample preparation. All samples contained 5 identical anthocyanidins, distributed differently, with cyanidin as the main compound. Identified flavonoids were quercitrin, hyperoside, and isoquercitrin; their relative amounts varied among the extracts. The antioxidant activity of guabiju methanolic extract was comparable to that of Trolox, and at a test concentration of 0.25 mg/mL, GB and PL2 activities were higher than those exhibited by Trolox. Total dry extracts of guabiju exhibited greater inhibition of chemotaxis at a concentration of 4 μg/mL, except for GBH (wild-type hydrolyzed extract) which already presented high values at a concentration of 2 μg/mL. These results suggest that the consumption of this fruit, rich in polyphenols, may be beneficial to human health. Practical Application: The paper is the first attempt on the improvement of this native fruit, since it is widely consumed regularly as part of the South American diet. The content of phenolic compounds demonstrates that consumption of guabiju would be beneficial to human health. Differences among samples, originating from open pollination of plants growing on the same site, lead to the conclusion that improvements can be made in the chemical composition and beneficial activity of guabiju fruits by simply selecting genotypes for these characteristics among open-pollinated seedlings. 相似文献

The effects of low pressure (50 mm Hg) and various exposure times were studied on the mortality of three important storage pest insects at 30 °C as part of an effort to eliminate the need for methyl bromide fumigation to control insects in stored commodities, through development of a novel “vacuum-hermetic” technology. Insects were exposed within test chambers containing cocoa beans with a moisture content in equilibrium with 55% relative humidity and at a constant temperature of 30 °C. Three insect species were used: Trogoderma granarium, Lasioderma serricorne and Oryzaephilus surinamensis. At 50±5 mm Hg and 30 °C, the egg was the most resistant stage in all three species at the LT99 level, times needed to obtain 99% mortality being 46, 91 and 32 h, respectively. Adults of T. granarium and L. serricorne, and pupae of O. surinamensis were most susceptible. These results widen the database established to kill insects at low pressure within the framework of practical exposure times and commercially available equipment, in order to provide an effective alternative to fumigation. 相似文献

Two different sources of omega‐3 fatty acids (fish oil concentrate and menhaden oil) with or without the addition of natural antioxidants (rosemary and green tea) were incorporated into surimi gels at equivalent levels and examined for changes in sensory and physical properties and resistance to oxidation during 9 months of frozen storage. Gels with menhaden oil showed higher acceptance than gels with fish oil concentrate, which displayed a fishy taste that was partially masked by natural antioxidants. Formation of volatile compounds was similar in all samples. Upon heating to form the gel, there was a ca 20–25% decrease in the relative polyene index of the control containing no rosemary or green tea extract. Formulations with menhaden oil containing green tea and rosemary were more stable immediately after cooking; however, a slight pro‐oxidant effect occurred during storage. Omega‐3 fortified gels were whiter than gels with no added oil. Rosemary and green tea extracts increased yellowness (b*) and redness (a*), respectively. A computerized version of the Tower of London task was used to investigate cognitive skill learning. Thirty-six healthy volunteers were assigned to either a random condition (nonrecurring problems), or to a sequence condition in which, unbeknownst to the subjects, a repeating sequence of three problems was presented. Indices of execution, planning, and total time, as well as number of moves performed, were used to measure behavioural change. Subjects' performance improved in both conditions across blocks of practice. A distinct learning effect related to the repeating sequence was also observed. This suggests that a specific skill that reflects procedural learning of the strategies, rules, and procedures pertaining to repeating problems can develop over and above a more general skill at solving cognitive planning problems with practice. Complex real-time system design needs to address dependability requirements, such as safety, reliability, and security. We
introduce a modelling and simulation based approach which allows for the analysis and prediction of dependability constraints.
Dependability can be improved by making use of fault tolerance techniques. The de-facto example, in the real-time system literature,
of a pump control system in a mining environment is used to demonstrate our model-based approach. In particular, the system
is modelled using the Discrete EVent system Specification (DEVS) formalism, and then extended to incorporate fault tolerance
mechanisms. The modularity of the DEVS formalism facilitates this extension. The simulation demonstrates that the employed
fault tolerance techniques are effective. That is, the system performs satisfactorily despite the presence of faults. This
approach also makes it possible to make an informed choice between different fault tolerance techniques. Performance metrics
are used to measure the reliability and safety of the system, and to evaluate the dependability achieved by the design. In

Here, we report the development of a novel photoactive biomolecular nanoarchitecture based on the genetically engineered extremophilic photosystem I (PSI) biophotocatalyst interfaced with a single layer graphene via pyrene-nitrilotriacetic acid self-assembled monolayer (SAM). For the oriented and stable immobilization of the PSI biophotocatalyst, an His6-tag was genetically engineered at the N-terminus of the stromal PsaD subunit of PSI, allowing for the preferential binding of this photoactive complex with its reducing side towards the graphene monolayer. This approach yielded a novel robust and ordered nanoarchitecture designed to generate an efficient direct electron transfer pathway between graphene, the metal redox center in the organic SAM and the photo-oxidized PSI biocatalyst. The nanosystem yielded an overall current output of 16.5 µA·cm−2 for the nickel- and 17.3 µA·cm−2 for the cobalt-based nanoassemblies, and was stable for at least 1 h of continuous standard illumination. The novel green nanosystem described in this work carries the high potential for future applications due to its robustness, highly ordered and simple architecture characterized by the high biophotocatalyst loading as well as simplicity of manufacturing. 相似文献

This work aimed to evaluate quality parameters of ‘Tommy Atkins’ mango slices pre-treated with citric acid and cassava starch or sodium alginate edible coatings, with or without glycerol. Samples only treated with citric acid were also evaluated. Mango slices dipped in sanitising solution were used as control. Colour parameters, mechanical properties, weight loss and respiration rate were analysed during 15 days at 5 °C. Cassava starch coating, with or without glycerol, provided higher stress at failure and lightness values than control sample throughout storage (p ≤ 0.05). The citric acid promoted colour preservation, but increased significantly samples weight loss during storage. Sodium alginate coatings did not maintain quality characteristics, showing stress at failure and lightness values lower than control after 15 days. All coatings reduced respiration rate, but citric acid dipping and cassava starch coating without glycerol treatments were more effective, reaching values around 41% lower, when compared to control sample.
Industrial Relevance
Fresh-cut mangoes are appreciated world-wide for its exotic flavour and nutritional composition. However, their shelf life is limited by changes in colour, texture, appearance and microbial growth. The edible coatings act as gas and water vapour barrier, extending the storage time of fresh-cut fruit and vegetables. Thus, cassava starch and alginate are alternatives to preserve minimally processed mangoes, maintaining the quality parameters of fresh fruit. This work is useful for the minimal processing industry in order to increase shelf life of fresh-cut mangoes, which can be considered an alternative to fast food and other ready-to-eat products, attending the demand for healthy and convenient foodstuffs. 相似文献899.
