This study aims at gaining a better understanding of the microstructural features that control the mechanical and the tribological performances of WC–12 wt.% Co coatings under High Velocity Oxygen Fuel (HVOF) spraying conditions. This paper looks at the influences of the HVOF process parameters for WC–12Co material on the microstructural and the tribological behaviours of the coatings. The correlation between the coating microstructure and the wear behaviour is investigated by observing and analysing the microstructure and by studying the friction moment using enhanced statistical tool based on neural computations. According to the experimental and the numerical results, it has been shown that the spray parameters affect the phase composition, hardness and porosity of HVOF sprayed WC–12Co coatings and the correlations with HVOF process parameters are fully predictable in the steady-state regime.  相似文献

The main goal of NIS is to provide traceability to international measurement standards to help the Egyptian industry to penetrate world markets. One of the most important fields of metrology is hardness measurements. A Primary Vickers Hardness Standard Machine (PVHM) was designed to improve the capabilities to qualify the primary hardness test blocks locally. The machine has been constructed to perform Vickers hardness test for scales HV10, HV20, HV30, and HV50 with expanded uncertainty of ±1.4 %. This standard machine has been metrologically characterized by NIS. In this paper metrological characterization of the machine will be shown. The characterization includes the methods and results of direct verification of influences parameters (test forces, indentation measuring system, indenter and test cycle time), and a comparison with PTB standard machine.  相似文献

The effect of Ti substitution on the magnetocaloric effect of the La0.70Sr0.30MnO3 perovskite was investigated. The magnetic entropy change (− ΔSM) was deduced by two methods: a Maxwell relation and the Landau theory. The magnetocaloric data displays a large value of the magnetic entropy change (− ΔSM) near the Curie temperature (TC = 210 K), which increases when increasing the applied magnetic field. A good agreement is found between the experimental (− ΔSM) and the one estimated by Landau theory. The relative cooling power values vary from 49 to 288 J kg− 1 upon variation of the applied magnetic field at 1 and 5 T. Under 5 T, the relative cooling power value for La0.70Sr0.30Mn0.90Ti0.10O3 is about 70% of the conventional refrigerant Gd material. As a result, the herein reported compound can be considered as a promising material in magnetic refrigeration technology.  相似文献

This paper describes a new fast hybrid adaptive grid generation technique for arbitrary two‐dimensional domains. This technique is based on a Cartesian background grid with square elements and quadtree decomposition. A new algorithm is introduced for the distribution of boundary points based on the curvature of the domain boundaries. The quadtree decomposition is governed either by the distribution of the boundary points or by a size function when a solution‐based adaptive grid is desired. The resulting grid is quaddominant and ready for the application of finite element, multi‐grid, or line‐relaxation methods. All the internal angles in the final grid have a lower bound of 45° and an upper bound of 135°. Although our main interest is in grid generation for unsteady flow simulations, the technique presented in this paper can be employed in many other fields. Myeloperoxidase (MPO) is a hemoprotein that is released during inflammation and may lead to irreversible protein and lipid modification, increasing levels of oxidized low density lipoprotein, and promoting athrogenesis. Recently, it has been considered as a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. Similarly, the measurement of carotid intima‐media thickness gives an indication about the degree of atherosclerosis and prediction of clinical cardiovascular events. Elevated white blood cells counts may indicate a state of acute inflammation and follow its progression. Dialysis patients are at a high risk of developing cardiovascular disease compared with healthy subjects. The role of N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide and increased cardiac troponin in identification and prognostication of cardiovascular diseases in end‐stage renal disease patients has been investigated. The current study aimed to evaluate plasma MPO and its possible relationship with carotid intima‐media thickness, troponin I, N‐terminal pro‐brain natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP), and insulin resistance as measured by homeostatic model assessment (HOMA index) in a cohort of Saudi patients who are undergoing hemodialysis (HD) vs. continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis for end‐stage renal disease. Plasma MPO was significantly higher in patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) than in those on HD and in normal subjects (P<0.001). Conversely, NT‐proBNP plasma levels were significantly higher in patients on HD (both predialysis and postdialysis) than in those on CAPD (P<0.01) and than normal subjects. Similarly, plasma troponin‐I levels were significantly higher in patients on HD compared with those of CAPD and than normal subjects (P<0.001). Plasma troponin‐I and NT‐proBNP levels were positively correlated in the 3 groups namely those on CAPD, Pre‐HD, and post‐HD (r: 0.464 and P=0.047; r: 0.330 and P=0.013; and r: 0.452 and P=0.024), respectively. There was no correlation between the MPO level and carotid intima‐media thickness (P>0.05). However, plasma MPO level correlated positively with the white blood cell count in patients on CAPD and in those on HD (P<0.05). Our findings suggest an increased oxidative stress in CAPD patients compared with HD patients, while the reported difference in plasma NT‐proBNP and troponin‐I may be related to the rapid decline of residual renal function in HD and type of membrane used in the HD dialysis procedure itself.  相似文献

The maintenance of waterways generates large amounts of dredged sediments that are an environmental issue. This paper focuses on the use of fluvial sediment to replace a portion of the raw materials of Portland cement clinker, which would otherwise come from natural resources. The mineralogy of the synthetic cement was characterised using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy and its reactivity was followed by isothermal calorimetry. Comparisons were made to a commercial ordinary Portland cement (CEM I 52.5). Compressive strength measurements were conducted on cement pastes at 1, 2, 4, 7, 14, 28 and 56 days to study strength development. The results showed that Portland cement clinker can be successfully synthesised by using up to 39% sediment. The compressive strengths developed by the cement made from sediment were equivalent to those obtained with the reference at early ages and 20% higher at long term.  相似文献

Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) have been successfully used in predicting the fatigue behavior of fiber-reinforced composite materials. In most cases, the predictions were obtained for the same material used in training subjected to different loading conditions. The method would be of greater value if one could predict the failure of materials other than those used for training the network. In a recent paper, ANN trained using the experimental fatigue data obtained for composites subjected to a constant stress ratio ( R = s min/s max ) left( {{hbox{R}} = {sigma_{{ min }}}/{sigma_{{ max }}}} right) was successfully used to predict the cyclic behavior of a composite made of a different material. In this work, this method is extended to include the stress ratio effect. The results show that ANN can provide accurate fatigue life prediction for different materials under different values of the stress ratio. These results can allow for the development of a materials smart database that can be used for various engineering applications.  相似文献

While rural freeways generally have lower crash rates, interactions between driver behavior, traffic and geometric characteristics, and adverse weather conditions may increase the crash risk along some freeway sections. This paper examines the safety effects of roadway geometrics on crash occurrence along a freeway section that features mountainous terrain and adverse weather. Starting from preliminary exploration using Poisson models, Bayesian hierarchical models with spatial and random effects were developed to efficiently model the crash frequencies on road segments on the 20-mile freeway section of study. Crash data for 6 years (2000–2005), roadway geometry, traffic characteristics and weather information in addition to the effect of steep slopes and adverse weather of snow and dry seasons, were used in the investigation. Estimation of the model coefficients indicates that roadway geometry is significantly associated with crash risk; segments with steep downgrades were found to drastically increase the crash risk. Moreover, this crash risk could be significantly increased during snow season compared to dry season as a confounding effect between grades and pavement condition. Moreover, sites with higher degree of curvature, wider medians and an increase of the number of lanes appear to be associated with lower crash rate. Finally, a Bayesian ranking technique was implemented to rank the hazard levels of the roadway segments; the results confirmed that segments with steep downgrades are more crash prone along the study section.  相似文献

This research presents a comprehensive analysis of motor vehicle–bicycle crashes using 4 years of reported crash data (2004–2007) in Beijing. The interrelationship of irregular maneuvers, crash patterns and bicyclist injury severity are investigated by controlling for a variety of risk factors related to bicyclist demographics, roadway geometric design, road environment, etc.Results show that different irregular maneuvers are correlated with a number of risk factors at different roadway locations such as the bicyclist age and gender, weather and traffic condition. Furthermore, angle collisions are the leading pattern of motor vehicle–bicycle crashes, and different irregular maneuvers may lead to some specific crash patterns such as head-on or rear-end crashes. Orthokinetic scrape is more likely to result in running over bicyclists, which may lead to more severe injury. Moreover, bicyclist injury severity level could be elevated by specific crash patterns and risk factors including head-on and angle collisions, occurrence of running over bicyclists, night without streetlight, roads without median/division, higher speed limit, heavy vehicle involvement and older bicyclists.This study suggests installation of median, division between roadway and bikeway, and improvement of illumination on road segments. Reduced speed limit is also recommended at roadway locations with high bicycle traffic volume. Furthermore, it may be necessary to develop safety campaigns aimed at male, teenage and older bicyclists.  相似文献
