WiMAX is a promising broadband wireless networking technology and is expected to take the place of broadband access solutions such as DSL and cable. Owing to its superior support in mobility, it is expected to provide integrated voice and data service to realize broadband mobile computing. In order to reach better quality‐of‐service (QoS) requirements for real‐time applications, the IEEE 802.16e standard defines five different services among traffic categories with different multimedia requirements. However, the problem of choosing the right set of medium access control parameters and packet scheduling policy to provide strict QoS guaranteed in IEEE 802.16e Broadband Wireless Access (BWA) systems remains unsolved and left as an open issue. In this paper, we propose a novel polling‐based uplink packet scheduling policy for real‐time Polling Service and extended real‐time Polling Service (rtPS/ertPS) traffic to support real‐time applications, with strict delay requirements, such as variable bit rate (VBR) traffic in IEEE 802.16e BWA systems. The proposed transmit‐permission policy can derive sufficient conditions such that all the rtPS/ertPS sources satisfy their time constraints to provide deterministic QoS guarantees. In addition to theoretical analysis, simulations are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme. We present a method to determine the average device channel temperature of AlGaN/GaN metal–oxide–semiconductor heterostructure field effect transistors (MOSHFETs) in the time domain under continuous wave (CW) and periodic-pulsed RF (radiation frequency) operational conditions. The temporal profiles of microwave output power densities of GaN MOSHFETs were measured at 2 GHz under such conditions and used for determination of the average channel temperature. The measurement technique in this work is also being utilized to determine the thermal time constant of the devices. Analytical temporal solutions of temperature profile in MOSHFETs are provided to support the method. The analytical solutions can also apply to generic field effect transistors (FETs) with an arbitrary form of time-dependent heat input at the top surface of the wafer. It is found that the average channel temperature of GaN MOSHFETs on a 300 μm sapphire substrate with the output power of 10 W/mm can be over 400 °C in the CW mode while the average channel temperature of GaN MOSHFETs on a SiC substrate with the same thickness only reaches 50 °C under the same condition. The highest average channel temperature in a pulsed RF mode will vary with respect to the duty cycle of the pulse and type of the substrate. 相似文献

A planar heterojunction bipolar transistor (HBT) with an AlGaAs emitter layer epitaxially grown onto a selectively defined grown base layer, where the base is grown with the collector as part of the original epi, is discussed. The transistors fabricated with this process exhibit good gain and output characteristics. Transistors with 7×7 μm2 emitters have exhibited a DC current gain of 10 to 1000 for base doping from 1×1019 to 8×1017 cm3, respectively, and Early voltages ⩾100 V. The propagation delay of 19-stage ring oscillators was 87 ps/gate. This article surveys recent developments in the rational synthesis of single‐crystalline zinc oxide nanowires and their unique optical properties. The growth of ZnO nanowires was carried out in a simple chemical vapor transport and condensation (CVTC) system. Based on our fundamental understanding of the vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) nanowire growth mechanism, different levels of growth controls (including positional, orientational, diameter, and density control) have been achieved. Power‐dependent emission has been examined and lasing action was observed in these ZnO nanowires when the excitation intensity exceeds a threshold (∼40 kW cm–2). These short‐wavelength nanolasers operate at room temperature and the areal density of these nanolasers on substrate readily reaches 1 × 1010 cm–2. The observation of lasing action in these nanowire arrays without any fabricated mirrors indicates these single‐crystalline, well‐facetted nanowires can function as self‐contained optical resonance cavities. This argument is further supported by our recent near‐field scanning optical microscopy (NSOM) studies on single nanowires. 相似文献

Today, both the military and commercial sectors are placing an increased emphasis on global communications. This has prompted the development of several low earth orbit satellite systems that promise worldwide connectivity and real-time voice communications. This article provides a tutorial overview of the IRIDIUM low earth orbit satellite system and performance results obtained via simulation. First, it presents an overview of key IRIDIUM design parameters and features. Then, it examines the issues associated with routing in a dynamic network topology, focusing on network management and routing algorithm selection. Armed conflict affects the biological diversity and biological research regime of a country. This paper takes a low-intensity armed conflict in the biologically and ethnically diverse Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) of Bangladesh, as an example, and assesses the response of biologists to this conflict. The study spans the last 50 years dividing it into three periods: pre-conflict (1961?1974), conflict (1975–1997) and post-conflict (1998–2011). Interactions with selected researchers and a literature survey showed that sporadic, intermittent biological research was conducted in this region even during the conflict. The number of research initiatives substantially increased and became more diverse over the last decade. Research opportunity has increased mainly because of improved security and accessibility. Nevertheless, despite the research capacity and a positive attitude among the researchers, some fundamental issues still limit long-term research in this area. The continuing volatile situation due to slow implementation of the 1997 Peace Accord and the tension between rebel factions and indigenous and settler communities in some areas continue to be serious concerns for studying and conserving the biodiversity of this region. Innovative research approaches and the full implementation of the peace agreement are vital to improving the situation for biological research in the CHT. The paper underlines the importance of a biologist’s self-motivation to respond to low-intensity armed conflicts. 相似文献

Maternal obesity increases the risk of health complications in offspring, but whether these effects are exacerbated by offspring exposure to unhealthy diets warrants further investigation. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were fed either standard chow (n = 15) or ‘cafeteria’ (Caf, n = 21) diets across pre-pregnancy, gestation, and lactation. Male and female offspring were weaned onto chow or Caf diet (2–3/sex/litter), forming four groups; behavioural and metabolic parameters were assessed. At weaning, offspring from Caf dams were smaller and lighter, but had more retroperitoneal (RP) fat, with a larger effect in males. Maternal Caf diet significantly increased relative expression of ACACA and Fasn in male and female weanling liver, but not CPT-1, SREBP and PGC1; PPARα was increased in males from Caf dams. Maternal obesity enhanced the impact of postweaning Caf exposure on adult body weight, RP fat, liver mass, and plasma leptin in males but not females. Offspring from Caf dams appeared to exhibit reduced anxiety-like behaviour on the elevated plus maze. Hepatic CPT-1 expression was reduced only in adult males from Caf fed dams. Post weaning Caf diet consumption did not alter liver gene expression in the adult offspring. Maternal obesity exacerbated the obesogenic phenotype produced by postweaning Caf diet in male, but not female offspring. Thus, the impact of maternal obesity on adiposity and liver gene expression appeared more marked in males. Our data underline the sex-specific detrimental effects of maternal obesity on offspring. 相似文献

A testing program was conducted to determine the time-temperature response of the principal compliances of a unidirectional graphite/epoxy composite. It is shown that two components of the compliance matrix are time and temperature independent. In addition, the compliance matrix is found to be symmetric for the viscoelastic composite. The time-temperature superposition principle is used to determine shift factors. It is shown that shift factors are independent of fiber orientation for fiber angles that vary from 10 to 90° with respect to the load direction. 相似文献

Ionothermal synthesis, the use of ionic liquids as both solvent and template (structure-directing agent), has been used to prepare zeolites and inorganic-organic hybrids such as metal-organic frameworks. The underlying properties of the ionothermal method are discussed, and it is compared with traditional hydrothermal preparative methods. The materials resulting from ionothermal synthesis are described, and any structural features that can be related to the ionic liquid used as the solvent are discussed.
