Influence of Manufacturing and Ripening Conditions on the Survival of Enterobacteriaceae in Manchego Cheese

The effects of cooking temperature, time and temperature of brine-salting, and temperature of ripening on the behavior of Enterobacteriaceae in Manchego cheese were studied. Fifty lots of cheese from raw ewe's milk manufactured and ripened under different conditions were investigated throughout a 60-day ripening period. Differences in pH values due to temperature-dependent whey retention accounted for the effect of cooking temperature on coliform and fecal coliform counts. Temperature of brine-salting had no effect on Enterobacteriaceae counts, but a significant effect of salting time on Enterobacteriaceae and fecal coliform counts was detected. Ripening temperature was the manufacturing variable with greatest influence (P<.01) on Enterobacteriaceae and coliform counts during the whole curing period.

IPA模型对Hopfield模型神经网络的改进

考虑Ｈｏｐｆｉｅｌｄ模型中假态之间的布尔逻辑关系，提出利用ＩＰＡ模型对神经网络中的假态进行抑制，并和原网络的性能进行了比较，结果表明：改进后的网络性能比Ｈｏｐｆｉｅｌｄ模型和ＩＰＡ模型均有较大提高。     

ANALYSIS AND PROCESSING OF LMF－COSTAS STEPPED FREQUENCY RADAR SIGNAL

Linear Modulated Frequency (LMF) Costas Stepped Frequency Radar (SFR) signal is introduced. Its ambiguity function is derived and analyzed in detail and its feasibility is validated in theory. The scheme of the proposed signal processing is also presented. The results of theoretic analysis and simulation show that, by using the proposed signal and increasing the bandwidth of the total stepped frequency, the ambiguity sidelobe is well suppressed and the range-velocity coupling in the stepped frequency radar is also greatly weakened.

Comments on “Multiphase systolic algorithms for spectraldecomposition” [and reply]

Comments that the paper by Liu and Yao (see ibid., vol.40, no.1, p.190, 1992) presented an efficient algorithm for spectral decomposition, but the parallel algorithm and architecture for the Hessenberg reduction has a problem. The matrix obtained from the unitary similarity transformation is not necessarily a Hessenberg matrix. The authors reply that the Hessenberg reduction described is not in the Hessenberg form. Only the first column is in its proper form. There are many ways to overcome such a problem. One simple way is to use the multiphase rectangular systolic array

Faculty and Student Attitudes Toward Community Service: A Comparative Analysis

The Humanitarian Engineering initiative, sponsored by the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, at the Colorado School of Mines, is creating a program that will support engineering students in understanding their responsibility for solving community development problems that exist throughout the world. As part of this effort, data has been collected on faculty and student attitudes using the ‘Community Service Attitudes Scale,” developed and validated by Shiarella, McCarthy, and Tucker. During the fall 2004, 78 students and 34 faculty members responded to this instrument. Statistically significant differences were found between the attitudes of students and faculty, males and females, and among different age groupings with respect to service activities. A general finding was that faculty displayed better attitudes toward community service than the students.     

Thermal properties and crystalline structure of liquid crystalline poly(ethylene terephthalate‐co‐2(3)‐chloro‐1,4‐phenylene terephthalate)

Thermal properties and crystalline structure of liquid crystalline (LC) poly(ethylene terephthalate‐co‐2(3)‐chloro‐1,4‐phenylene terephthalate) [copoly(ET/CPT)] were investigated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TGA), limiting oxygen index (LOI) measurement, electron dispersive X‐ray analysis (EDX), X‐ray diffractometry, and infrared spectrometry (IR). The thermal transition temperatures of copoly(ET/CPT) were changed with the composition. Copoly(ET/CPT) showed two thermal decomposition steps and the residues at 700°C and LOI values of copoly(ET/CPT) were almost proportional to its chlorine content. The activation energy of thermal decomposition of LC units was very low compared to that of poly(ethylene terephthalate)(PET) units. Crystal structure of copoly(ET/CPT) (20/80) was of triclinic system with the lattice constants of a = 9.98 A?, b = 8.78 A?, c = 12.93 A?, α = 97.4°, β = 96.1°, and γ = 90.8°, which is very close to that of poly(chloro‐p‐phenylene terephthlate) (PCPT) with the lattice constants of a = 9.51 A?, b = 8.61 A?, c = 12.73 A?, α = 96.8°, β = 95.4°, and γ = 90.8°. When copoly(ET/CPT)(50/50) was annealed at 220°C in vacuum, crystallization induced sequential reordering (CISR) was not observed but the heat of fusion was slightly increased due to the increase of the trans isomer content in PET units. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
