A continuous oxygen uptake meter or continuous respirometer was developed which produced a rapid and reliable response to systemic shocks. The respirometer basically is a 101. Plexiglas laboratory activated sludge unit with a variable volume air tight side car. The feed enters the completely mixed aeration basin and is pumped into the side car. The side car is the site of the oxygen uptake measurements as indicated by a continuously monitoring dissolved oxygen probe. The system was most sensitive to changes in influent concentrations when run at an F/M = 0.1. Response time for a change in DO of 0.1 ppm was less than 4 min. Davyhulme sewage-treatment works, which serves the Manchester drainage area, is one of the lagest in the UK. The dry-weather flow is 300 000 m3/d, and the plant receives a wide range of industrial effluents. The works has been identified as a major source of pollution in the Mersey estuary, with an average discharge of 6500 kg ammonia/day. As part of its initiative to improve the Mersey estuary, North West Water intends to reduce the daily ammonia load from Davyhulme to about 1000 kg/d by 1995. In order to assess the capabilities of both conventional and novel processes to achieve this degree of ammonia removal, a number of on-site pilot plants were established. This paper reports on the pilot-plant studies and the selection of process options. Recommendations with regard to design parameters and final process selection are given. 相似文献

The optical, and electrophysical characteristics of hydrogenated silicon oxycarbonitride films synthesized by the plasma enhanced chemical vapor decomposition of the mixtures of 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexamethyldisilazane with oxygen and nitrogen in the temperature range of 373–973 K have been studied. It has been shown that the obtained films are highly transparent (transmittance is ～92–99%) in the UV, visible, and IR ranges of the spectrum; they have refractive indices in the range of 1.43–2.25, a low reflection coefficient of visible light (nearly 3%), and low dielectric permittivity. 相似文献
